I named the PC i got "Jochen"

My PowerBook G4 is called "Kraftbuch" - just an improvised german translation...

I name my computers, purely because it's easier to identify them on the network.

My Mac Mini's named Clementine (after Kate Winslet's character in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and my MBP's named Minerva, Roman goddess of crafts and wisdom. Just 'cos it sounded cool.

So, I've got Minnie and Clem. The long-since retired PC was named Dangermouse its whole life, after the classic cartoon character.

Having said all that, I'm presently at work, typing this on a machine named CHUR-BROM-LT01. How impersonal!

Many years ago, my old ISP (demon.net) had two core routers -- one named ermin.router.demon.net and the other named trude.router.demon.net I guess each was one half of the cow. It was fun back in 1997 or so when ermin died, leaving trude all on her own with more traffic than she knew what to do with.

Hi

This may sound really sad but I name my computers.

All my PC's have male names MAX 1-10
My Mac however has a female name because of how beautiful she is "Verity"

Do you Macs or computers have names?

Ever since "The Life Aquatic w/ Steve Zissou" came out, (LOVE Bill Murray, love that movie!) I have been naming all computers and related products w/ names from that movie*. My iPod came first and was named, apprpoprietly, Steve Zissou. My shuffle came next and is named Klaus. My mac mini (which was then replaced w/ my macbook, of which it used the same name) was/is Ned Plimpton, and my Lacie external is named Kingsley Zissou. Come to think of it, I really ought to have a Life Aquatic themed background. :)

*Only exception is my Gateway laptop, which was born before the movie came out. His name is Sprocket, a nod to one of the best tv shows ever- Fraggle Rock. :)

My first Mac, a PowerBook G4, was named Lygaeid, a family of leaf insects that includes the milkweed bug, which are red and back with X-like pattern on their back (as in Mac OS X).

My second and new Mac, a MacBook, is Firefly, named after the short-lived TV show.

Alex

Thats funny I named my Desktop (PC) Serenity

I tried naming my macs but just forgot about it. Although i tend to name my iPods, current one being VJ (Video Jockey) my mini was (minime (unoriginal i know) and the nano was simply (Nanopod).

The only mac i've come close to naming is the Black MacBook which i called (BlackBook) but thats a given.

My MacBook's name is Kilgore Trout, after the recurring character in Vonnegut novels.

All of my primary computers have been named HAL 9000. When I get a new machine, I transfer his "soul" over to the new one (IE, the HAL desktop that I've had forever).

All of my portable computers (HP 100LX-->200LX-->620LX-->Compaq 3950 Pocket PC-->Treo 600) have been named SAL 9000.

My car's name is Tommy (after the rock opera).

I've never named anything else, though. The iPod is just an iPod. The printer and external HD are just Printers and External HDs. Don't know why the naming didn't carry over

Zubie

I use a very advanced system, basically replacing the first word or letter with "Zubie", my nickname, and then following with the rest of the name. So:

emac --> ZubieMac
Mac Pro --> ZubieMac Pro
Thinkpad --> ZubiePad
Airport --> ZubiePort
ipod --> ZubiePod
nano --> ZubiePod Nano

Zubie also refers to Zubie in the third person. Zubie has self esteem issues.

My MBP is called Pepper (Dont ask why) and the mini is called Charles

Is Dr. Pepper a real doctor? I'm starting to doubt....

Anyways, my HDD is called "MacBook", and that's pretty much the ntire baptism for ya!;)

All of my computers get named after my favorite TV show of all time: M*A*S*H

Macbook: Ralph, after a North Korean character in the episode Yalu Brick road I watched the night I decided to buy the MB

Mac Mini: Hawkeye

Linux Server: Barricuda, after the mythical nurse in the episode Operation Noselife

HP Laptop: Charles, after the temporary surgeon who ended up being more permanent then he wanted. I didn't intend to have the laptop for long, but it has stuck with me for longer than I care to admit.

MythTV box: Klinger. Damn thing just wants to get out of here and sit unused in a corner, but I don't let it. A lot of Klinger and his section 8s.

My first MacBook was called "MooBook" and the 2nd one, which was black, was called "CreakBook."

powermac: Jarrod Molloy (tough afl player. crunched everyone in his path. scared everyone in his path)
pb: Shearer (always scores)
mini: minime
ipod video: misnomer
ipod shuffle: bistromath
