No notch all day every day

At a cursory glance, I dont like just about any of the design decisions

-Thicker which is fine but it seems substantially thicker which is something I appreciate about my Air coming even from a 2016 Pro.
-hideous feet not even rounded and subtle like on current and previous Mac laptops. looks tacky and inelegant even in stock photos.
-Notch
-black border keyboard mat surrounding the black keys, contrast disparity between it and the chassis is nullified.
-3 USB-C TB4 ports? There was 4 on the Toucbar Macs. I'm fine with 2 on my Air, but one less port for 'higher throughput'?
-3.5 lbs. Ouch.

a whomping 4.7/4.8 lbs for the 16" too. That's terrible. That's like a gaming laptop that never leaves the desk.

I think the hype surrounding return to ports is kinda meh. Glad to see Magsafe return but mind boggling why it ever went away. And cant be too excited about something that was the status quo forever until Tim's reign.

They couldn't have gone HARDER on the space grey too? I want a saturated black MacBook like the 13" polycarbonate days. Otherwise, silver.

I hate it already, just as we got rid of stupid touchbar they introduce the next hate object.

Has anyone a screenshot with the notch in fullscreen apps, how's that gonna work out?
As the newest post shows, in fullscreen, the additional screen space goes to black, so everyone here can relax and get back to their precious huge bezel ;)

I'm ok with it. I think like the iPhones (and I was a Day 1 buyer of the X, and have gotten a 12 Pro and 13 Pro since), we'll get used to it / not notice it, and eventually it'll become ubiquitous with Macbook Pros (like they currently are with iPhones). If this is what it took to get the 1080p camera with the smaller uniform bezels around, I'd much rather this than no notch but thicker bezels.

To be honest it doesn’t bother me one bit… same as the iPhone… it was either a small forehead on the iPhone with the time, batter status etc lower down or all the info above the main area of the screen on either side of the notch… it will be the exact same on the MBP… that menu bar will now be out of the way of the main area of the screen.

It surprises me how many think this notch will bring Face ID… have you seen how thin that lid is… I highly doubt that would house a Face ID sensor.

What does bother me is the durability of the black coated aluminium around the keys…. Is this going to chip away after a few months???

Not sure if I see it correctly, but it appears that with the notch, the screen is made taller to make "full rectangle" area to match existing 16 inch and extra bit of vertical space for the notch rows of pixels.
Now the screen space is 16.2 inch -- which is a bit bigger than before. If this is true, then I'm happy with it :)

I really don't like the notch on the iPhone but I'm perfectly OK with it on the MacBook Pros. It makes more sense to me than it does on the iPhone, and eats into a far smaller proportion of the screen width.

It doesn't eat into the screen at all. It allows ADDITIONAL screen either side of it.

So, to answer the question, notch. As someone said above, additional screen real estate is always a plus.

Hate the notch. I'm not a traditionalist, there are tons of aspects of life where i think newer ways are better ways than the way they've always been done, but non-rectangular screens is one of the times where the newer way is worse. Screens for displaying a broad variety of content are best with four straight edges and four 90-degree corners.

I hate the notch on my iPhone, especially when a bright app wraps around it. But more thought seems to have gone into it on the Mac. Full screen blanks out the space either side of the notch on the MBP. Hopefully this behaviour will be ported to iOS.

Citrix Receiver users are going to appreciate the notch very much, NOT!

Great.. now I have to wait 6 years before I can buy another macbook cause of that stupid notch. No freaking way will I spend even a single dollar on something else with a d4mn notch.
get a dell with those thin bezels. this laptop isn't for you.

i'll be happy with a M1 Pro beast of a system w/ 1000 nit display + promotion.
