Is anyone here dual carrying an Air and 17 Pro Max and enjoying going between the two for their individual positives?

I’m doing that with a 16 Pro Max. I use the PM when I need more than 2x zoom on the camera. Otherwise the Air fits most of my needs.

Do you mean carrying around both at the same time or switching between carrying them (leaving one at home)? Either way I only have an Air, but I was considering getting a 17 Pro to occasionally carry with me just for the extra lenses, but I ended up getting a dedicated compact camera with stronger zoom instead. I keep it in a fanny pack which I wear occasionally, and the Air in my pocket. The only other reason I can think of to carry both phones is if one is a work phone. I think it's the ideal second phone if someone has to have one, and if the other phone is a Pro. But I would bet if they have a choice, they'd use the Air 99% of the time😆.

What camera did you get? I'm thinking of doing the same. I have a back up mini2 and don't want another phone.

I got a Lumix ZS99. I mainly wanted to make up for the Air's lack of strong zoom, so I chose the ZS99 for its 30x zoom. Don't ask me how it is though--it's my first camera and I haven't even really gotten a chance to use it or get to know it well. But I can say the zoom is crazy. Unfortunately it's too chunky to comfortably carry around in my pocket like a phone, hence the fanny pack. A thick jacket pocket would probably be ok too, but I rarely wear those.

I guess I didn't do enough research because after I bought it, I found out about the Lumix ZS200, which I would have considered. It's an older camera and has half the zoom, but it has a larger 1" sensor and from a comparison I saw its digital zoom photos were comparable to the ZS99 optical zoom photos, plus it should do better in low light. If Panasonic ever refreshes it, I'll probably switch to it. I don't love paying inflated prices for used devices, plus it still has micro USB.

Thanks a lot, yeah that makes sense.

Indeed, I mean carrying both at the same time.
Glad you found the perfect tech mix for your usage 😃 it’s been over a decade since I have carried a compact camera, lol, does it have WiFi or Bluetooth to allow you to transfer images?

So that is indeed the situation, I have been offered a work line, and I am thinking the work phone will need to be something smaller than my 17PM as I will have both phones on me a lot of the time, it would be a little wild to rock 2 17 Pro Max 😂
I am thinking either the Air or a base 17 would make the most sense.

...My battery is at 100% health still as well even after 245 cycles (I use it for zoom, hotspot, work badge, and more. I rip through battery quickly). My 14PM was 92% at this point.
im on my Air for about 2.5 hours of actual talk time every morning for my work.

in addition to the cellular calls, i use it for sleep tracking.
and doing about an hour run 5 days a week.
using a lot of apps during day
tracking sensors and notifications and display settings etc all at full capability.
etc

battery at end of day used to leave me with about 30% of available battery at 7 or 7:30 pm.

so, i made some small changes.
1 began to use the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery during my morning cellular calls (for daily battery health).
since the Air is on the table while i talk its not heavy.
2 began to use wired EarPods for the calls instead of AirPods 2 Pro.
3 began to set my battery charge to an 80% limit (for long term battery health).

the Battery usage data in settings is interesting: it correctly records my time spent talking (listing it as 2.5 hours usage), but it doesn't attribute that time to the Air. it indicates a battery percentage usage of 0% for all of that 2.5 hours, since its pulling power from the MagSafe Battery.

even with daily (overnight) charging limit set to 80% i am now getting about 1 battery cycle about every 1.8 days.
so it effectively nearly halved the battery cycle increase even with limit set to 80% which is also likely to help long term battery health (its still at 100% of course since its only about 6 months since i got my Air).

I have both the Air and 17 Pro and when using both of them appreciate what each has to bring to the iPhone experience. For the Air I really love just how thin and light this iPhone really is and how well it performs for daily use. It is really a solid iPhone for the average user in my opinion. As for the 17 Pro, I use this iPhone when I want to take full advantage of the camera system on that iPhone. From my perspective using both iPhones, I see no difference in average daily use however when I need the camera the difference is obvious. This is my take on using both iPhones.

Thank you very much for the information. I'll check it out.

After all this time with the Air I can still say it is the most enjoyable phone I’ve had in the last couple of years. The weight and thickness of the Pro phones started to annoy me, so the Air came just at the right time. I obviously missed the extra cameras in the first weeks, but that feeling is totally gone, I actually appreciate the simplicity. Battery life has been amazing, I had only 1 day where it got below 20%. I do have to say that my Air is naked, no case, so I can imagine people who have a case missing a lot of the Air experience. That’s why this phone is so niche.

I don’t think I could go back to a Pro anymore, when I hold the 16 Pro of my wife I really dislike it. My theory is that actually the most important thing about the phone is how it feels in your hands and pockets, because that is how you experience it 99% of the time. Missing the cameras is basically not having a feature I would use less than 0,1% of the time (say I use my phone 99% of the time for browsing, messaging, watching video, etc, 1% for taking photos, of which 90% is with the main camera and 10% with the ultrawide or zoom, so 0,1% of total usage).

I am happy! I am even doubting if I would get the foldable iPhone next and instead just go for an Air 2.

This would make absolutely no sense whatsoever….. the individual positive of the air is its small size and thinnes…. If you’re adding the bulk of a whole extra phone then you kill that completely….. rather than carrying 2 phones, why not just get the pro which does everything the air does and more.

Users may want to use separate personal and work phones (or need to depending on employer).

I wouldn't want MDM on my personal phone so I'd be happy to dual carry. It makes sense to get the iPhone Pro for personal use if you want a fully featured device and just get a lighter device for work as that will likely be used mostly for email and messaging.

Dual carrying for work is different. But choosing to personal carry 2 phones is just a weird choice

I should have placed context earlier, it would indeed before work, I have been offered a staffline + device, and I am thinking a thinner/smaller device would make more sense, so either Air or base 17. I already have a 17 Pro Max on my own personal line.

It does transfer to my phone wirelessly, but I haven't set it up yet lol. Hopefully it's seamless.

Yeah if you'll always be carrying your personal 17 PM, I'd definitely say the Air is the ideal secondary/work phone. The standard 17 doesn't offer anything you don't already have with your PM, and it's thicker and heavier than the Air. That's great your work will let you choose the model. I have to warn you though, you may end up wanting to use your work phone more than your personal😆

I vote for the Air. It's thinner, lighter and has a bigger display.

I carried both a US phone (17 Pro) and a Philippine phone (15 Pro) with me on our last trip to PH.

My CGM was connected to my US phone (AT&T wifi calling on airplane mode).

My Philippine phone had 2 local eSIMs: main line linked to Grab, e-wallets, etc and an extra line on another carrier as data backup.

Ok that makes a lot more sense…. In your case I would say yes, much better to go with a thinner device since you’ll have to carry 2 devices anyway with the work requirement

That is brilliant, I am sure it will be seamless.

Lol, that will be interesting right? Originally the Air was not for me as a primary device but as a secondary device the ball game has completely changed, suddenly it makes so much sense 😂 life. Thank you!

Thanks a lot, need to go have another play with it, but your point about the bigger screen is one of my main reasons, anything under 6.5inch does feel quite small, so I think it being thin with large screen works well.

Thank you, yep indeed, this is exactly my thinking, it is a great balance.

I've been using my Air no case, no bumper since day 1. I do love it but as to be expected the battery is terrible but I am a heavy phone user. I do love how thin it is and I think it's so chic 😍
