My iPad mini retina goes everywhere with me in a suit jacket pocket. I use it for reading, gps, and e-mails and browsing the internet when on the go. An iPhone 6 wouldn't be large enough and wouldn't have the software I like, particularly for reading pdfs. An Air 2 wouldn't be quite as wonderfully portable. I have a macbook Air which I use when I'm sitting down for serious work (especially using Latex).

Yeah, like others I take mine on vacation or for (sometimes up to 3 month) business trips. I was really happy the first extended trips I took without my laptop, not carrying a MBP around on my shoulder was liberating (and better for my posture) ;-)

For vacation I only take the iPad, but for those long business trips I take and leave my MBP at work and keep my iPad at the apartment. I think it's healthy to define / separate work and personal time while working abroad and the iPad helps me define that routine, believe it or not.

iPad Air 2 and Apple Bluetooth keyboard come with me to school and work everyday, along with my iPhone 6 of course. I have a PC at the office (company provided - not by choice), in which most of my work gets done on. But I do use the iPad out in the field to look at plans, etc. - I work on the project management team for a construction company.

My iPad is basically a netbook. I keep it attached to my Brydge+ keyboard at all times in doors. When I travel, I put it in a black leather case to protect it.

The keyboard was about 99 bucks, but has been so worth it. Can't remember the last time I typed on my iPad with touch screen.
