First of all I don't have friends so mostly nobody asks.

If they do ask, its none of their business what MY things cost. They're MINE. I am very anti-social and rabidly defensive of MY possessions. If they did ask, I would be suspicious and consider them rude.

The laptop belongs to me. My property. Understand that.

...wow.

someone answered my craigslist add for my powerbook g4 and asked me how much did i paid for and how old it is I told him I paid for 2,500 8 years ago he backed out.

i dunno who would ask that who you don't know. i tell people i know if i ask them, and if people i don't should ask i would probably pack up and leave pretty quickly.

Yes always. Bought my iMac for £850 almost four years ago. You can get the base 11" Air for that price now. If someone says its too much I usually say 'just put about £70 a month aside for the purchase'. It soon adds up. If you really want to save up £850 you can do. Just willpower

Most people I talk to normally say something along the lines of "I bet that cost a lot" to which I respond "haha, it wasn't too bad otherwise I wouldn't have bought it".

Sure, I ain't scared..lol. Usually I get the "that must of cost a lot" and I'll respond with a "yep, and it was worth it." If they wan't to know exactly how much, I'll let them know. No skin off of my back.
