Honestly, I went with a case because I figured I'd want to trade it in possibly and I heard too many horror stories where the value drops tremendously on a stupid scratch.

The less ergonomic a phone is, the more handling care is required in order to not need a case. I don't have a 14 Pro myself, but if I did, I personally wouldn't be willing to put in the level of care that I think it would require to go caseless, therefore I would use a case. I don't like cases, but I like babying a phone and not handling it how I want to handle it even less.

I never used to use a case, or if I bought one, i'd end up hating it and not using it.

I used the 14 Pro for a while with no case, and if I'm careful I'm sure it would be fine.

I bought a leather RYAN London case for it, and I actually love it - makes the phone a lot nicer to hold and i don't have to be quite so careful when placing it down. First case in years that I've actually liked.

Cases and that kind of **** is for three kind of people:

- Butter fingers: They just need a case. It's ok.
- People that can't afford the phone (Apple or not Apple): This type of people can't sleep thinking about a possible breakage or loss. Cases, bumpers, condoms... All kind of **** on their phones just for fear.
- People without personality: All around them wear a case on their phones. So they have to wear one too.

There are a fourth category... People with money that don't want to use the same device than poor people. So they put cases more expensive than the phone itself. Cases with logos from brands like LV and others and/or with embedded stones or personalized with their own brand or ***** like that.

if i was in a situation where it would break then i would put the case on but if im just on the couch i dont need a case

Fifth category. The phone is more comfortable to use and hold when it's in a case. I don't like the square edges.

I work in a hospital and it's full of iPhones. I've never seen anyone use one caseless.

Also for people with brains enough to realise that phones are no longer cheap indestructible plastic bricks but are now expensive, fragile and produced from materials such as glass.

I use both a case and a screen protector. Even if I didn't mind the cost of replacing a broken phone, I'd still mind the hassle of going to the store, buying and then setting up the new phone. Bigger hassle while traveling or when on vacation, especially now that we are moving to eSIM only. Plus, I appreciate the grip of the apple silicon case.

I'm usually a big advocate for going caseless (since I have gone years and years without using one). I have a Peel super slim case on my 14 Pro and honestly, I love it. Most of the time I can't even tell I have a case on my phone. I didn't like having to constantly wipe the finger prints off the stainless steel (I'm OCD with keeping my phone's spotless). So having the case on alleviates me having to clean the phone multiple times a day.

I think a case is needed for any phone. No matter how careful you are, something will eventually happen.

If you have insurance, try it. You tell us what your experience is, not wait for us to tell you what it might be.

Exactly this. I don't have time to be faffing around sorting out repairs.

Everyone should do what brings them joy, but my world is full of tarmac, concrete and hard floors, and the phone is made of glass, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . With the giant camera bump, it's not like it's even nice to put down anyway.

You literally went through so much exhaustive effort to describe every kind of person except the main category...the most common and every day person that doesn't want to break their phone.

Imagine gatekeeping people using cases on their phones.

Based.

For me personally, it's a minimum 4 hour round trip to the nearest Apple Store for a repair or a replacement.
It would cost me a whole day for such an adventure. 😵‍💫

And..... the case just paid for itself.

I only dropped the phone about 5cm onto a table, but it caught the hard aluminium corner of my keyboard. A bit of damage to the leather, but the phone is fine. Pretty sure I'd have had a cracked screen or a nice scratch otherwise. Phew!

I have the opportunity to buy AppleCare+ for $9.99 a month. It sounds like a good deal. The only thing is I actually like using my case. It works great and feels better in the hand than without the case (less slippery). What’s your opinion?

Just because you have AppleCare+ doesn’t mean you have to go without a case. Use the case if you want, especially if you don’t like scratches or you like extra grip. It still brings the cost down should you ever need to replace your screen or camera module.

When at home, i always like to use my phone caseless, feels much better and I'm always careful with them. When I go out and about, I always put case one. I do have applecare Plus on mine.
