They probably will go the 3.5" route again. Its not what I want them to do, but sales are pretty good as is. Something to remember is that the iPhone sells well with a 3.5" display, but not because of it. It sells well because of a whole host of reasons, and would probably sell just as well with a bigger display. People will always find a reason to buy or not buy something.

OP, you completely underestimate sheep and the typical uneducated consumer. By uneducated, I'm referring to the fact that the typical consumer doesn't research anything about a phone when they chose one. They follow what they think everyone else is doing. It's called following a trend. That being said, most sheep will by any iphone regardless of screen size. Even if the screen became 2 inches. This is 100% fact.

I'm fine with the screen as is, but the more I think about the more I wonder if multiple models could really work. There's different sizes in both their laptops and desktops, why not iPhone? At first thought it seems like it would just complicate the buying process, but if you think about it consumers already have to decide between color, carrier and memory anyway. Why not just add screen size? 3.5 and 4.3. There are a lot of people that would love to jump in and get an iPhone but for the screen size. This, in my mind, is one the main things holding them back from a larger market share

I personally wouldn't want a bigger screen. It is 3,5" for a reason, if its bigger most of the users will not be able to use with one hand, using both hands on the phone to dial a number is ridiculous

Want a bigger screen get a Samsung Note, it actually isn't that bad, I've played with one and the screen is a big improvement over Galaxy models, still not as good as Retina though. Or get an iPad :)

What about those of us who have used Windows and Android phones but choose the iPhone instead? Those of us who have researched and owned other platforms but still choose an iPhone? Screen size isn't everything to everyone and many people prefer a phone to be a smaller size device. Plus, the 4s was faster than the top Android phones in benchmarks, had a higher resolution with more ppi, a far better ecosystem and better build quality. Its just been in the last month that these brand new Android phones have started to get better CPU performance and higher resolution. That should swing back in Apple's favor when the new iPhone hits though. So yea, some people choose the iPhone cause its the superior device.

So if the iPhone had a 2 inch screen would you still buy one? If your answer is yes, boy oh boy do I have a few things I'd like to sell ya'.

You're still hung up on screen size. What is being said is that for many people, the iPhone represents the best overall combination of design features and OS. For me, having tried Android, iOS is the best software and I'm happy with it; it would take a lot to change that. If, for some reason, Apple decided to change the phone in some fundamental way that I didn't like, I would look at alternatives.

I've typed this post on my iPhone with no trouble seeing what I'm typing. I can touch all the numbers and letters easily. Why do I need a larger screen with the consequent drop in battery life, increase in weight and drop in comfort in holding it.

As long as Apple keep it at a size that I can continue to operate one handed, I don't really care what the screen size is. If anything, it's the likes of HTC and Samsung who are 'arrogant' for thinking that a customer who wants a high end phone also wants an enormous screen. Here's news for them; these 2 things don't go hand in hand! Seemingly it's only Apple who are interested in (or have the ability to) cater to the high end market in a one handed form factor.

Hello neighbour, I am also a resident of NCL :)

Well actually I'm in Gateshead. South of the river.... :)

Yes there is a need for a bigger screen. Else there wouldn't be tablets such as the iPad.

Huh? You're talking about a completely different device for a different purpose! Try fitting an iPad in your pocket!

You prove the point for us. If you want a bigger screen, buy an iPad. In some ways, the Note and other larger screen devices over 4.5" are trying to be all things to all people. Jack of all trades and master of none. The iPhone is a perfect size for its function, iPad is similarly the right size for that purpose.

I think Apple should move towards an even slightly bigger screen this year.
A lot of people I know would love that, and would probably push many to buy an iPhone. I say this based on my experience: this is enough for me to state Apple should make that move.

If rumours were to build that Apple were planning on releasing an iphone with a larger screen, we all know all these "the iphone screen is perfect" comments would change to "Bigger screen - great idea apple".

You think? Depends how big it becomes. If its within roughly the same proportions of phone size as now and battery life/weight doesn't take a hit, then I'll not be bothered.

If the larger screen is at the expense of other compromises then I'll probably stay with my 4 or get a 4S. Like many of us have said, screen size is just one of many deciding factors. Battery life is far more important to me.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. As far as Apple are concerned and the millions buying the phone, there's nothing wrong with the current screen size. I'd be far happier if they expended their efforts making the thing more durable

You see that's so typical of you north bankers (not rhyming slang). I'll see you in the queue for the (3.5") iPhone in 6 months time

I'm so joking given my grandma, aunty and sister all live in Gateshead ;). I doubt I'll be queuing... never have, don't intend to start!

Absolutely true. A lot of people buy the iphone because its the iphone, not because its the phone that best suits their needs.

For the last 5yrs I've been completely blind to all other phones on the market. When the iphone 4 came out I was so disappointed - I didn't like it, didn't want it so had no choice but to stay with my 3GS.

Its only recently I've 'realised' there are a wealth of other phones out there to choose from. If the iphone isn't for you, try something else (and with most places you have 14days to return it if you don't like it).
