I am starting to think that Apple may start releasing their own apps on the App store and people can download them if they want. No doubt that they will be making more apps but I don't think they want them to be on the iPhone's out of the box because then the home screen starts to get pretty cluttered. I don't know about everyone else, but the look of a fully occupied home screen is very ugly IMO.

I agree on the cluttered home screen, I want at least two empty black spaces.......

Prediction

I think that there won't be any new apps, but i DO think that Apple will put a section into the App Store that will be 'Apple Apps' and they will have all kinds of apps, like MMS, and other stuff, too.

Any Comments?

That would actually be a superb way to go.

One of the beauties of the iPhone is the lack of clutter and settings that bedevil other phones - you just aren't faced with endless screens and menus that you just don't want/use/understand.

The idea of having the iPhone as an empty vessel that you can fill with only the functions you want is actually very exciting. Everyone can have a phone that does exactly what they want.

Of course, it would be good if we could also empty that vessel of things you don't want, like, erm, Stocks.

Right On!

thats exactly what i was thinking..if you dont want it, you shouldn't befored to have it just sitting on ur home screen

unified mailbox

I either wish for a unified mailbox, or wish to know why a unified mailbox is so difficult to implement on the iphone!

Seems unlikely

The software has been out already, and if what they say is true about it being GM, then the missing stuff is still missing. You know, the basically top 5 request posted by just about every iPhone users. Why is Jobs punishing us? LOL

I would like to point out that in the App Store (seen in screenshots of WWDC and the March 6th event in HD) there is a section where you can browse by company. If you're viewing an App by Sega you can click "View all Apps by Sega Inc." or something like that. So there's definitely going to be a section for all Apple Inc. Apps, it's practically already been confirmed.

The App Store, worth $25 alone? - Huh, No. Apple's App Store is a revenue-generating machine, I shouldn't have to pay to access something which ultimately is going to generate even more revenue for Apple. I'm happy to pay, but I shouldn't have to. I have no problem with the price of the 2.0 software update, it's placed at a gracious price-point for us iPod touch users, alot better than the Janurary Software update, which stung at $20.

Don't forget that AppStore has a ton of free software. Most phones/handhelds require you to buy even the bad-quality software.

Just trying to get more ppl to comment........i'm gonna restate my theory...

I think that Apple will NOT release any surprise apps in the new release of the software...but i DO think that apple will put in a category 'Apple Apps' so that they can put in free applications that ppl might want. There'll be MMS, updates on camera, and much more things.....

please comment

and yet nobody has commented you.
i doubt there will be an "Apple Apps" section, but just different sections relating to what you want to do.

i.e
"Games"
"Business"
"Phone"

etc.
(probably not under those broad headings, but you get the idea)

When Steve Jobs showed a preview of the iTunes version of the App Store, there was a button where you can view Apps by company. While viewing the Info page of a Backgammon App, there was a button near the bottom titled

"ALL SOFTWARE BY ACME INC."

Which would obviously take you to a section of the Store with all Acme Inc.'s Apps. Plus we already Apple will be releasing Touch Fighter, Touch FX, a Remote App, etc. so there will obviously be an option to view "ALL SOFTWARE BY APPLE INC." Therefor, giving you a place to view all Applications by Apple.

You are very, very wrong.

im on dialup
i couldnt watch the keynote.
:(
but i stand corrected, thanks. :D

One thing I wish Apple would put on the iPhone is a good Task/To-Do manager that would sync both with the Mac and with Outlook on the PC (via Exchange Activesync).

I know that some 3rd party apps provide To-Do list functionality, but I would like a built in application that also syncs with Exchange.

A "Hidden" feature I hope 2.0 software has is the ability to uninstall native apps getting rid of things I do not use such as Stocks. *Shudders*

haha. Stocks.
i really dont have a need for that either.

ill just move it to its own special screen...
several way from others...

Exactly what is the logic for Apple to hold back features? Its goal is to sell more 3G iPhones. More features gives people more reason to rationalize an upgrade or new purchase. So why hold back? That makes zero sense.

It's also something Apple has never done unless the spec changes between announcement and launch, which I doubt will happen here as the iPhone 3G was ramping up as Steve was announcing. I remember people thought the original iPhone, and also 10.5, was going to have "surprise" features at launch. Did not happen. Sorry, what you see is what you get.

I also don't think Apple will be selling it's own apps. Again, makes little sense when they have enlisted mercenaries willing to do the R&D AND pay Apple a nice chunk of change for the privilege. The only iPhone s/w Apple is going to focus on is the iPhone OS.

Don't forget we are the early adopters - for the mainstream purchaser the iPhone does not exist until sometime after the 11 July. An extra app or two that 'just happens to be on the phone' when we early adopters buy ours on the 11th WILL be a bonus for us. :)

Nah, I think they'll start treating it like Mac OS. They will have the usual updates and applications that come with the iPhone (for mac it is Mail, iCal, iTunes, Automator, etc.) but then also release others that people can buy if they want (for the mac, this is iWork, Final Cut Pro, etc.). That makes sense to me.

I've only watched 2 Keynotes and one WWDC. From what I see, SJ likes to come out with Cannons instead of a Water Pistol. So, I don't think they have hidden anything for launch day. At least, intentionally.
