The only way I see Apple doing this is a year from now when the iPhone 6S is about to drop and Apple wants to clear out inventory of the i6. So they may include a free pair of Beats earbuds to get more iPhone 6s sold. I could definitely see Best Buy doing this as well. As for Beats, I don't mind them. I actually have a pair of the new studio beats and those things are awesome. And the original Solo HDs were decent but the Solo HD2s are easily better. And I have to LOL at some Apple fans, of all people, talking about something being insanely over priced. That's like Lindsay Lohan going off on somebody for doing drugs

To get them in the Beats ecosystem. These in-ear headphones are basically the most basic headphones Beats offer.
The real upgrade, of course, will be the over-ear headphones that cost hundreds of dollars.

Additionally, there is the marketing benefit. "An iPhone includes Beats headphones worth $100 for free!" (While those headphones only cost Apple maybe $5).

Marketing benefit... over who? No other manufacturer is claiming anything in the music space. Apple has no battles to fight there.

That's what makes it a marketing benefit. Else they would just be catching up... ;)

fair enough.. I see where you are coming from.

But, in my opinion, I feel that music is passé now. The days of the iPod and the battles over headphones, sound quality are over - for the general population.

You'll always have audiophiles and wannabe audiophiles clamoring for something better. But the mass of Uncle Joe's and Aunt Matilda's, who pay Apple's bills down at the store, don't care.

Doubt it. They spent all that time and effort on their EarPods to just get rid of them so soon. Plus they are much cheaper

if that's happen so apple and beats both have a good opportunities and we will feel the awesome sound experience but that will not possible because apple will continue with their ear bugs.:(

so you stick to earbuds that sound like crap. makes sense. I'm not saying you need beats but the apple earbuds are horrible(imo) i still have the unopened set from my last 4 iPhones if you want them

Have you actually tried the earphones since the iPhone 5 came out? There was a huge leap in sound quality at that time. I haven't bothered with non-Apple earphones since they changed the design.

I thought the headphone jack/plug was going to be specific to the beats so the regular headphones wouldn't fit.

That said... I don't think that music is passé. Music streaming services like Spotify are growing at an amazing pace. In my opinion, while the 'original hype' of "music & iPod" might never return, music will always be a part of peoples lives.

Oh, and I also think that in the end Apple will go for margins and will not include beats earbuds. As you say yourself: the inclusion of some earbuds won't win over the masses. I'm just not ruling it 100% out. :)

yup and i put them back in the box right away. makes a good thing to keep for resale.

I hope not. The standard EarPods will do me just fine.

The EarPods are the sh..t, I have yet to find better headphones with better sound quality (in same price range). They also don't break as easy as apple headphones used too and they are so comfortable in my ear. When they showed the keynote and said how they scanned loads of ears to find a universal shape, I initially thought it's typical apple ********. However once I wore them I cannot go back to other headphones, even in ear ones.
Having music control and speaker control also helps #

So, I was just browsing the Beats (by Dre) website and I accidentally stumbled upon these:

They normally retail for $99, but in-ear headphones are generally high-margin products (e.g. very cheap to produce, yet very expensive to buy).

Do you think Apple might include these Beats earphones? It would be a massive marketing advantage for Apple and the colours happen to match the colours of the iPhone.

They can advertise with the popular Beats brand and say $99 headphones are included (while in reality, it might only cost Apple $5).

Or do you think Apple will continue including their standard 'EarPods'?

I hope so.. I'm not really a fan of the earpods since they fall out of my ear all the time when I'm jogging/running. I prefer the rubber pieces because they fit snug.

Thanks for the info. I think I will take a gander as I wouldn't mind going bluetooth at this point.

You'll love not having a cord. I just bought jaybird bluebud x and while they don't sound THAT much better than the stock earbuds (I'm not an audiophile either), I love the fact that I don't have to be tethered to my phone and they are very comfortable.

Grrr-now you've got me looking dropping circa £100 on a decent set of bluetooth earphones to run with and walk the dog with!

Just found these while I was looking at those Jaybirds.

I prefer that type of design to the buds that sit in your ear as I suffer with blocked ears every 6 months or so, thanks to a build up of wax!
