No.

iPhone = alarm clock.

Airplane mode to save battery life and to disconnect.

No need to turn off iPad either. When the screen is off the battery lasts forever.

I'm oncall at work many nights. Also I want to get calls in case there's any kind of family emergency.

I really do miss being able to turn off notifications globally.

Neither the phone nor the iPad are ever "off". Airplane mode for takeoffs, landings, and really-heads-down-do-not-disturb-need-to-stay-off-the-Internet times. But at night? No. Both are plugged in overnight on my nightstand & left in sleep mode. Jailbreak/iBlacklist takes care of all but emergency calls inbound, notifications are minimal anyway because that's how I prefer them (typically badges only, never sounds), and the phone isn't designed to require turning off regularly. So why bother?

If I had a landline, I would shut my phone off. One of my greatest fears is having my house broken into without me having access to a phone. So my iPhone charges right next to me (I use the sleep cycle app anyway).
Yea like anyone who breaks into an occupied home just might not consider cutting the phone line outside first. Just sayin'! :)

I'll look forward to that iBlacklist when a jailbreak for the 4S becomes available.

Phones are for communication and emergency...why turn it off? Mine is never off except when flying!

My phone never gets turned off, except for every few months when I turn it off to "reboot" it. While it's not really a problem, I had issues in the past (3GS days) so now I do it every wew months as a matter of course.

iPad 1 and 2 never get turned off - mine might not be used for 2+ weeks and still has 50 to 80% of battery left when not plugged in, so I cant see the point in turning them off.

Alarm Clock so no.

Also, how do you guys charge it if its off?

Well it will charge but it is meant to charge while on, not off. Indeed if an iPhone is too dead to turn on, when you charge it it will turn back on soon as it has enough juice to do so. The charging circuitry while it is off is rudimentary compared to when it is on. It is only meant to get it charged enough to turn back on.

Nope. If the power goes out, so does my landline (TWC Digital Phone) and my alarm clock. I need something to serve as a backup, and that's what my iPhone is for.

Because I get a nagging feeling if I don't (for my iPad). I may not use the iPad for days at a time, so I like to turn it off after every time I'm done using it.

With my iPhone I don't get that nagging feeling as much, but still like to turn it off at night.

Why do you have an iPad then?

I use mine 10-20 times a day. I sometimes dont turn my work laptop on for days at a time, because my iPad fills in nicely. I never leave the house with it. I take it into restaurants with me, it is always in the car with me.

Such a powerful tool to to not use it for days at a time.

I leave the iPhone on all day, and turn it off at night. I have a landline, so I like to give my iPhone a rest at night.

With my iPad, I turn it off right after I'm finished using it just so I don't forget to turn it off (as I may not use it for days).

Both the iPhone and iPad get plugged in at night, and left on.

You have a restaurant in your house?:D

Back on topic, I have never kept an iphone or ipad off for a prolonged period of time. The only time it does off is if I need to restart it. Other than that it stays on 24/7. There is need or benefit from turning it off for the night.

No way. Wife and I charge ours in our bedroom. We do have a land-line as it's only like $20mo. but we keep our cell phones on as most everyone calls us there. We also like the security in case something happens at the house.

I use mine for my alarm clock too.
