It's the kind of thing you use once or twice because it seems 'cool' but in day to day life there is really no practical application for it.

TOTALLY disagree with this post. If you travel, if you have distant family or friends you want to keep in touch with, if you have people overseas, it's really a lifeline. I use it a lot to talk to my kids and friends, for time spent on the road, and just to 'see' some of the things that people can only describe or talk about. "Hey daddy, I lost my tooth- see?!" "Look at our new puppy!" The list goes on and on.
Don't mean to sound like a commercial, but I think it's a cool little feature.

I have a couple people I know that have ip4s, but we just haven't gotten around to trying facetime out yet. I will sooner or later.

I think FaceTime is awesome but I have friends with iPhone 4s who barely use the feature.

I bought an iPhone 4 for myself and one for my girlfriend. We use FaceTime almost daily. I have wifi at work, and when I have a break I call her just to see her and my 4-month-old daughter.

Sounds like one of those cheesy Apple commercials, but it's the truth. 

I've used it once, just to test it out with an acquaintance. The only other person I know who has one is my ex-boyfriend...but I'm trying to talk the guy I'm dating now into getting an iPhone 4 instead of a Droid to replace his 3GS, so maybe we'll use it more often...

I've had an iPhone4 since they launched but I have not tried to facetime yet. I have I think just one friend who also has an i4 and we usually just text and then meet up in person. If I had those classic commercial scenarios it would be great, but I don't spend a lot of time on the phone.

I'm from Canada and I used it once with my friend from England; quality was amazing! Now that I bought the new iPod Touch for my family, I'll use it more often. ;)

i use it to call my friend at the apple store..them demo iphone 4s haha..i chat with random people sometimes:D

want a number of a demo iphone 4? :D jk

also speaking of facetime new ipod touch can facetime now so they just use a screen name or they have a number ??

OP, I'm in the same position as you. I still think it's the coolest feature of the phone, but I've used it less than 10 times in the few months I've had it. The only other people with an iPhone 4 are members of my family, but I see them on a daily basis, so it's pointless to FaceTime with them.

I use it all the time to talk to my girlfriend, friends, family etc. It kinda changed the way I make phone calls, as stupid as that sounds. I think it's a REALLY nice feature, and my only wish is for it to work over 3G. But, other than that, I'm really happy.

had 2 friends sometimes try to video call me, but im not in a wifi area. we dont bother anymore, just use skype webcam when at home.
video calling 6 years ago was more fun than facetime, alot of poeple i know had it, and we could call each other anywhere.

in day to day life there is really no practical application for it.

Well, I'm going to throw the BS flag on that statement. I've used Facetime and Skype video to 'virtually' look over someone's shoulder to assist, advise, etc.

EX: Friend has motorcycle and doesn't know how to remove the rear tire. Using Facetime, I can see the bike and tell him what bolt to loosen first, etc.

Can you imagine remote medical assistance in the near future using something like this? This sort of thing could actually save someone's life.

There's a ****load of practical applications for Facetime. Just because the name says so, you don't always have to be looking at a face.

I do VTC as my job so I'm probably not an average Video user but, I use FT at least 1-2 times per week and Skype/H.323/SIP video even more often. I'm in the UK and my brother (TX), father (TX) a few friends (CO, etc) have iPhone 4's so we always do FT now instead of a standard call. The ease-of-use is simply unbeatable: Even my grandmother figured out how to press the FaceTime button when my dad brought up my contact card on his iPhone. As long as you're on wifi it is almost always a better experience too, for audio as well as video (of course) and no per minute charges. And, specific to my usage - no international call rates or Skype-Out accounts required.

Very impressive video client in most respects... And I genuinely use it more than I expected. Not because its "better" than Skype or anything else really, but because the people I'm talking to find it easier to use. Now, we just need more interoperability with other mobiles/desktops and we'll be set :)
