I live in a place filled with wanabee gangstuhs, psuedo-hipsters, neo fascist conservatives, and multicultural liberals.

So no, I'm not afraid of people comming up to me to steal my iPhone.

I rarely think about that. (I'm in a fairly safe community). But, it's one more reason to have a case. It at least can camouflage it a bit.

Bring it on, I'm always looking for a fist fight!!!

Ok maybe not, but I don't worry about stuff like that. If I feel my life is in danger I will give it up.

Too bad there are situations like this.

Well I got robbed by two guys for an iPhone 4 back in July.....they got the phone temporarily....😉

That is quite the concealed carry weapon..........

I do not worry about it. I don't live in a city where Public transportation is common, and if I am in a city on public transportation, I am painfully aware of my surroundings (where I am, who is there, and how comfortable I feel in that situation).

For instance, when I am in chicago, and if I am somewhere where I don't feel comfortable, I don't do anything to draw attention to myself like pull out an expensive phone with high resell value.

That won't prevent all situations, but it sure goes a long way to ensure that I'm not making myself a victim.

lol yeah, I buy and sell phones on craigslist quite frequently, so that's something of an insurance policy (if you will). Sometimes people will do dumb things no matter where you are. The guys that robbed me were in broad daylight and in front of a good amount of people in front of a crowded gas station.

I consult in Nursing Homes. So far not a single 85 year old has tried to jump me for my phone. 😀

I can take them, anyway.😎

🙄 😉

If they actually did jump you, you'd be on the news, and you don't want that to happen. lol.

on a serious note, if someone sucker punched me in the side of the head on a bus in front of 30 people, there would likely be 30 witnesses to me shooting at least one of them as I was in fear for my life.

I travel in busy cities a lot for business and never feel uneasy. Just beware your surroundings and if you have permit, carry and keep it handy. I often have my backpack over my shoulder and my hand on my gun in my shoulder holster concealed under my jacket.

In fear for your life? Oh come'on...I hate those people who feel the need to carry around a loaded gun on the bus or to shopping centers. Most of us here live in the United States, not Saudia Arabia. If my 10 year old sister feels safe enough in public then you're fine. Stop being a damn social scaredy cat and join the rest of society.

I'm anil about my wallet and phone and some pickpocket in Barcelona STILL got the better of me 😡 insurance paid out but now there's a 3 week wait for the 4S 🙁

Good - always trust your gut feeling, I can guarantee you that it in most cases will reduce the risk significantly. Your intuition may not always be right, but it's never totally wrong either.

Btw, does "getting jumped" refer to mugging, pickpocketing or both?

Exactly, its almost 2012 now. With the 3GS free under contract and the iP4 for $99, any 16-year old with a part time job can afford this phone.

OP is talking about getting a $600 phone stolen, or even mugged, by an oportunistic criminal looking to sell it for cash/drug money... not law abiding 16-year olds that have jobs 😉

Omg, are you serious they do that? 😱 I better stay at home on the internet where it's safe!

Just pointing out that your thought process was a little off.

OP is worried about getting mugged and his phone stolen by criminals looking to sell it for cash... To which you respond by basically saying iPhone's are cheap enough for everyone to get.

A criminal isn't looking to simply get an iPhone for themselves by mugging somebody, they would steal it and sell it off for cash.

Now if you had said "the world is a safe place and you don't have to worry about getting mugged" I could understand the point you were trying to make... but saying iPhones are cheap enough that even criminals wont steal them anymore is a bit off to say the least 😉

I remember seeing on the news a women was at a train station and in daylight a bunch of thugs took her phone from her and basically rubbed it in her face before they just walked off with it. this isnt the first time ive read of this. another time i read a guy that got punched in the side of the head on a bus and they took his iphone in front of like 30 people on the bus.

do you worry about getting jumped for your phone?

I used to worry about this when I lived in a bad neighborhood but now I live in a pretty good neighborhood so I don't worry anymore.

Pickpockets are everywhere, and you can never safeguard yourself 100 % against them. Some places are more notorious for such than others, though (Barcelona has already been mentioned).

As for getting mugged, there are far worse things the perpetrators can do, other than stealing your iPhone.

Yes. That's why I'm so hesitant of taking my phone out in public, especially around youngsters that look like they've been up to no good. Doesn't help that most of them have Blackberry's too so they obviously want to steal a better phone.

I worry about those who would attempt to rob/assault me. I am a CHL holder and fully practiced/prepared for any such unfortunate eventuality.
