Yeah I don't have a case on my 2009 model. However, I do have a few scratches, and one deep one.

I thought about getting a case, but there were reviews that said they can break, and some put so much weight on the laptop so that it completely separates the display from the unibody. Also, dirt can get in the cases and scratch it anyway.

I like using the neoprene sleeve, and that's about it. I'd rather have a few scratches from being naked than having thousands of dirt scratches. :D

My MBP is never anything but naked. It's got scratches, two good dings, and it's missing a screw in the bottom (which the local Mac shop helpfully covered with a bright orange sticker to keep the dust out - the MBP was with them to confirm a dead a battery for AppleCare).

I use 'em 'till they drop, so I don't worry about resell value.

Mine's got character, eh?

Nice. Definitely character haha that's how I feel about mine too.

I'm a girl. I am OCD.
I have a shell, sleeve, palm rest, trackpad film, screen protector, and keyboard cover. I have everything covered. My husband said my laptop looks ugly but I am fine with that. LOL:D:D

I use my stuff till it wears out, or give it to someone, so I never worry about resale

This. My 2009 15" MBP has already been promised to my Dad if I stop using it before it drops - so quite frankly, I don't care what the resale value is. It's going to get a few dings and scratches - it's a laptop that I carry around a lot, though it does go in an Incase neoprene sleeve in bags. Just to make sure the laptop stays dry if the bag leaks...

Similarly, the lid is graffiti'd with an MST3k decal to mark the machine out as mine, and I don't care what effect that has on resale value either.

I can't stand skins and cases. I put my MBP in a sleeve when transporting but could not imagine using anything while the laptop is in use. Same with my phone and all my other electronics. No damn cases. They look ugly and make the product bulkier.

Same goes for my drumset. I transport my gear in cases, but who in the right mind would use their instrument while it is in a case. :p

Agreed ^^^

The MacBook doesn't deserve to be in an ugly case. It looks great as it is!

i have never used a skin or cover with my mbp. mine is primarily used as a desktop though and rarely goes anywhere. when i do take it on trips i use a neoprene case for transport. my 07 is pristine except for a scratch on the bottom.

As with all of my electronics. my MBP is fully covered in a BestSkinsEver skin. I like the peace of mind that I get with full scratch protection.

no cases/skins/sleeves for me... it's a tool, just like my submariner -- scratches/dents are expected overtime and are what make it/them unique to me. i don't worry about resale value because i never get rid of them (maybe pass them down eventually; just like my vintage watches). all i ever use are a microfiber cloth and a little water.

I use a wrapsol because I just don't trust myself. The wrapsol has a nice matte finish and feels nice on my macbook pro. Just as good as using it naked!

Well Im a guy and every time I look at my MBP I wish I had dropped the money for a zagg skin and a hard case. on the lid I have 1 good ding and 2 scratches probably 1/16th of an inch deep. Almost makes me cry a little... And yes, I'm a little OCD myself.

I never cover my MBP, it's just sexy as it is. I also use a neoprene sleeve for on the road, but I love how it looks. No scratches so far on 6+ months.

Yes but it does make me nervous. I find with all my devices I start with cases and once I use them more i start to take them off because naked is sort of the best looking..just my thoughts on the topic ;)

A post like this makes me want to get a hardcase but it really makes things heavy.

Nah no skins no nothing. It takes away the sexiness of the MBP. Only thing I do use to protect it is a neoprene case for traveling.

I have always used my laptops naked. However this is my first Mac(on day 4 now) and the aluminum is just to soft to do that.

A nice Zagg Invisible Shield will cover the whole thing without detracting from the looks. And I got mine for 30% off for entering their givaway contest!

I have always used those for my phones also, Especially iPhone4 but cases just detract so much from the compact feel.

I use my macbook, iPhone, iPod(s); basically everything Apple naked. They were made sexy. And I like to show that off
