guess I'm too paranoid...I got a speck case, keyboard cover, trackpad cover, palm rest pads and screen cover. Then again I use my while out to sea on a Submarine and if something happens to it I can't just run out and get another one, so need to keep it protected.

With my sister's crazy boston terrier and three year old, keeping my MBP naked wasn't an option. Though, the only "dings" so far have been from her boston terrier trying to get to the "apple", it was kind of cute, actually. She's so unintelligent. 🙂

Ambiguous thread title, but it got my attention! I do use my MBP naked because, as many others, I believe it is a stunningly beautiful computer just as it is out of the box, and a case would take away from its looks. However, I think I would die if i scratched it since I have been saving for my Mac for 4 YEARS! I care about this computer like my child! (I'm 18 but i care for it as i probably would if i had a child.)

I store it in a neoprene case when I'm not using it, but this computer just looks too good to hide behind a shell! I am considering the ZAGG invisible shield though, that might give me some peace of mind.

When I bought my MBP, i got a cheap plastic case of off ebay, and it was a horrible case. I quickly got rid of it and left it naked for a few months.

After the few months, i noticed little minute dents only visible by looking at my MBP on a slight angle. Then i noticed little hair line scratches. Then I noticed little chips. With no clue how they all go there aside from my going in an out of my back pack, I decided it was time to invest into a decent cover.

I got lucky and picked up a black Speck Satin around Thanksgiving for roughly $30. Its been on ever since. The only complaint I have about the case is everything and anything possibly greasy shows up on it.

If I'm going to use a $2400 laptop that doesn't have any sort of accidental warranty or insurance, you can be damn sure it's going to be protected. So no, I do not enjoy using my MacBook Pro while its naked.

while i do care about the scratches (partially because of resale value) i would never cover it up in some cheap plastic.

As opposed to expensive plastic?

I have been a user of my unibody 15" MBP since 08' and I love it. I have never cased it or put it in a skin of any kind. I just realized I have 6-8 scratches some deep some not, also a couple dings on the bottom. I take care of it but from daily use and bringing it places things like this happen.

As time goes on as long as my screen is scratch less, trackpad clean and my computer is running smooth I could care less. My wife is starting to tell me my MBP looks beat up lol, and yet I could care less. Am I alone here or what? 🙄
Like a beautiful old leather briefcase with an admirable patina, beauty is relative.

Due to the heavy resource intensive workload and Apples obsession with making their laptops wafer thin, with little attention to effective thermal management, I've experienced heating issues.

Installing any type of "protection" only exacerbates what is already one of the hottest running laptops on the planet.

That said, I find the sheer beauty of the aluminum material and stellar aesthetics far too nice to cover up no matter how transparent.

I just use it and enjoy it. Period.

Cheers... 🙂

I hear you on that

That's how I am. iPhones always cased, mbp's. Never.

I too, exactly the same. Never had my macbook cased or covered. in fact, it travels with me everyday in a hand-made padded envelope, customized to its exact size, so i'd just slip it in. My iphone on the other hand, if it weren't cased it would probably be broken by now

I've never put a skin/case on my mbp and it still looks fairly new. I don't think skins/cases are warranted if you're careful with it. Plus, sometimes, it's more of a hassle to use skins/cases.

This. My 2009 15" MBP has already been promised to my Dad if I stop using it before it drops - so quite frankly, I don't care what the resale value is. It's going to get a few dings and scratches - it's a laptop that I carry around a lot, though it does go in an Incase neoprene sleeve in bags. Just to make sure the laptop stays dry if the bag leaks...

Similarly, the lid is graffiti'd with an MST3k decal to mark the machine out as mine, and I don't care what effect that has on resale value either.

I don't have a MBP "yet" but on my current notebook I ahve MST3k sticker on it 😉

I do carry my gear in a lil slip case for my ipad or laptop bag for my computer for transportation. I never bought into screen protectors and lil films you can put on your phones and laptops etc.

Okay, why did we just resurrect a thread from Dec. 2010 when there are a million threads just like this one started weekly?

Anyway, to answer the question I love using my MBP nekkid! Personally, I like the feel of the brushed aluminum much better than plastic, plus it looks 1000000000 times better than slapping some cheap looking plastic shield on it and making it all shiny. I do carry and store it in an Incase sleeve, but use it totally nekkid.

I never understand people who put cases, skins and things on mobile phones, laptops etc. In time it will show signs of wear, like everything does in this world. So what! Get over it.

Yes, very much so but I find it a bit difficult at work.

Oh.

You meant without a protective cover on it didn't you? 😱

Yeah, I like my MBP to be naked too. 🙂

Why keep it looking like new for someone else to enjoy when you sell it or get a new one and you don't care about it anymore. ENJOY it.

Cases for a computer are stupid. Put it in a bag when you transport it, and just be mindful with it otherwise.

I do however use a keyboard cover. I have 3 dogs and NO carpets in my home. That means a LOT of dust and hair flying around. I don't need any of that under my kb, tyvm. 😀

I just ordered a spec black case, simply because macbook pros look very, very sexy with a black outer shell.

its a tool so, for me, it gets used as is-no BS case..if i wanted to be annoyingly anal about keeping the thing pristine for whatever reason, it would defeat the purpose of being able to use for what i BOUGHT it for which is to get work done instead of getting hung up over the gazillions of ways every fanboy out there seems to fret over keeping their mac completely blemish free. i just don't get that. as long as it works and i do my part in keeping it in tip top shape, i am good to go. being overly fixated on every single aesthetic detail doesn't interest me because it detracts from the thing serving its main purpose to help me get stuff done.
