The posters on here do not suffer from the disorder. This is a very abused term it has become the catch phrase. More than likely the people here are just being anal retentive. Most are just the product of society, a bunch of whiners.
if i was anal retentive i'd give myself an enema and drop a huge upper decker load in your bathroom

iPhone 5s is a piece of garbage!

Okay, so here is my story about the rattling noise. I have been told the same thing by numerous Apple employees, both Genius Bar and Apple care, that the noise is either caused by the loose home or volume buttons or camera lens, like stated by Statheesh. However, my whole problem that if any other electronic device that you own had a similar rattling noise, would you not try to have it remedied? That is exactly what I did.

I started out by buying my iPhone 5s on the first day it was released, being the loyal iPhone customer. However, about a month later I get a message from Apple that I need to turn my phone in for a recall. Note that I did not want to turn my phone in, but I was told that if I did not by a certain date (about a month, I believe) that my warranty would be terminated. Now, understand this, when I took my phone in, I did not get it replaced with a new iPhone, I got a "service" phone, which is Apple's way of saying "refurbished." So, I was stuck with a REFURBISHED phone a month after I had paid for a BRAND NEW phone.

Now, about six months later the rattling noise occurs. I checked my friend's iPhone 5, and his did NOT rattle at all, and he has had it for over year and a half. That caused me to take my iPhone 5s into the Genius Bar. Three replacements later, and the current refurbished iPhone that I have is the worst one yet. It rattled straight from the get go.

That caused me to call Apple Care. Four phone calls and a week later, and they tell me that because I the noise is not detrimental to the operation of the phone, that I CANNOT get a new iPhone 5s, in the shrink-wrapped white box with a new charger and headphones, which is what I wanted when the recalled my phone in the first place. So, Apple does NOT WANT to give me a new phone, even though they say the "can't." I have been a loyal iPhone customer since the 3GS, and this will be my last iPhone. I had to get my old iPhone 5 replaced because of the horrible home button issue, and now I am on my 4th iPhone 5s. The quality has really dropped off since the death of Steve Jobs, and my next phone will probably be the Samsung Galaxy 5s. Believe me, I do not want to leave the iPhone line, since everything I have is geared towards them, such as iTunes, all my purchases. But my frustration is to the end of the limit.

If you read all this, I thank you, and this is my first time ever posting on the internet. However, this has to stop. If this can sway one person away from Apple products, I will be satisfied. APPLE IS HORRIBLE!!! I know I will probably get tons of replies to quit my bellyaching, and that is fine. However, I believe that when you pay $400 for a cell phone you should get your money's worth, and I feel I have not. Again, thank you for your time.

So, I fully expect a bunch of comments about me whining, but is it too much to ask for what I pay for?

1. I'm not sure I've seen a 5s or 5 power button that doesn't rattle a bit when shaken. They used to be nice and tight on most 4's and 4s's, but not anymore. It bothered me when I first noticed it on mine, but then I went to an Apple Store and all of the display models rattled. Your friend's 1.5-yr-old one probably doesn't due to grime/junk that naturally works its way into crevices like that.

2. You almost certainly didn't get a refurb "service" 5s only a month after release. They send Apple Stores tons of new ones packaged without the headphones and power cord stuff for swaps like that. Just last month I had a pixel die on mine and got it swapped out for a brand new "service" 5s. No way they refurbished phones in that short time period with all of the 5s shortages after release.

3. You swapped your almost certainly new 5s several times for a "problem" that all 5s's seem to have, and they were pretty generous to let you do it. You're just going to have to get used to it or buy a case that covers the buttons and therefore stops the little rattle when the phone is shaken.

Everyone should swap their phones if they have loose buttons, multiple times if necessary. Maybe that way Apple will understand that loose buttons aren't acceptable on a premium device.

That's interesting. I don't record videos often and when I do I probably just haven't noticed the rattling. Are we talking about the hold button??

I went to an Apple store and had them go through everyone of their replacement devices looking for an iPhone that didn't rattle... couldn't find one. They all had some sort of level of rattle to them. I rarely notice it now. It's just something that people like to harp on that really has no real bearing on the phones performance.

It's designed to rattle for when the baby gets bored. Its apples way of hooking us young. Didn't you read the instruction manual under baby rattle feature?

Months later and many more experience with various iphone models and I STILL have yet to encounter a iphone rattle as people suggest.

Mine rattles - IF I shake it, whilst simultaneously cocking my ear over to listen for it... I would never have thought anything of it (still don't, really), but for my having stumbled across threads over here complaining about it...

yes... to both of you. I suppose if I shook the darn thing hard enough and held it just right I might hear a rattle....but that goes for ANYTHING lol. Who goes around just violently shaking their iphone while holding it up to their ears?l If people really are doing this stuff.... then I've seen it all.

Cant stand this f*cked up rattle!

I just went to a official Apple authorized serviço store here in Portugal: Go.Repear+

The rattling sound on my Iphone 5s…. There they said that nothing could be done, and even if they would change the device (which is still under warranty) the rattling sound will be the same on the new device.

The collaborator even showed me his 5s and he also has the same rattling sound…

He said that this is not a problem and that this is normal….. Really?….

I had a iPhone 4 and then a Iphone 4s, and I never had a rattling sound like I have on my 5s…

Do really have to live with this rattling sound every time I tap on the back of my phone, or hear a cheap sound when I put the phone on a pillow I made on my desk!

Note: Just for the record, the rattling sound comes from the power button, and when I push the sound button, I can hear a second rattling sound (not as loud but it is there) from my camera!!

I made videos:

My i5 has loose volume buttons which rattle when I put the phone down onto a surface. It irritates the hell out of me and makes my expensive, premium and allegedly 'well built' device feel like a cheap item. I rejected my first five i5 phones due to loose buttons and when I rang up to reject the sixth, my carrier told me to select a different phone. Due to being tied up in the Apple ecosystem I couldn't do that, so I reluctantly kept my handset. I really wish that I hadn't because from day one this phone has been a pain in the butt. My next phone will have zero build quality issues, even if I have to switch brands.
