Oh wow, thats next level.
Criminal damage! Or not in this case... lol

It’s a display if I’m gonna spend almost 900 dollars on something I want to know.No kidding....how did you think it was ok to deliberately try to damage something you didn't own?
Seriously - the in store models aren’t for you to take a key to or drop on purpose - ugh

This actually happens a lot. You will see iPhone model displays and Apple Watch model displays where customers will intentionally try to test the durability by scratching it. Especially for those who are aware that Apple use the sapphire display, they test the durability by doing this, even though they probably shouldn’t, because it’s not fair to the next customer that wants to see the display without being damaged.
Actually, what most don’t know, the Apple Watch displays you see in store, from my understanding, they are not sapphire displays, they are actually an all glass display to make the displays appear to be brighter under store lighting conditions.
I am sat in a Mercedes showroom whilst my vehicle is being serviced. Shall i run a key along a few of the display models to see how durable their paint is![]()

DO IT!!! It is your consumer right!!!
Just got my long sought after Gold SS. Will put it through normal use and wiping/cleaning and will report back here. If it scratches easily, Space Black again for me.
Good to know thanks went and tried one on. Took my key and gave it a quick scratch test with my key. No scratch
Then I went and set an iMac on fire.
I was throwing an iPad like a frisbee across the Apple Store...
ROFL
Look flame me all u want but if I’m plunking down good cash I want to know if it can handle it. Ok smart Alecs, would u test drive a sports car like a little old lady hummmmmmm

To be honest, I did a scratch test on a SBSS as I was sending it back anyway due to another fault (speaker) and I got shot down by people too lol
Let me test drive this car and oh because I live near a tree that I may hit one day let me test what happens when I run into it with said car. To make sure I’ll survive if I do that after I buy it. You don’t have a problem with me doing that right? Didn’t you know this car is owned by a corporation only here on earth to serve me in any way possible regardless of liability laws in place by the country that corporation operates in?
[doublepost=1539255410][/doublepost]By all means use the return policy at will this is something that is in place for a reason and lets you use the product in a real world situation and is outlined in the terms of your purchase. I don’t feel bad about them needing to refurbish a product as a result, but abusing a product just because you feel entitled to is another thing entirely.
Did you scratch it?To be honest, I did a scratch test on a SBSS as I was sending it back anyway due to another fault (speaker) and I got shot down by people too lol
Did you scratch it?
Because its pretty common you’ll have a staple or something sharp stuck between your hand and the watch UNDER the watch itself? Wow.Yep! Used a kitchen knife just on the bottom next to the sensor (Series 3), flicked the tip against it and scratched much easier than I would have thought.

Sorry my mistake - I thought you took the knife to the sensor itself rather than the stainless steel. Meaning not directly the sensor but the sensor array next to the light emitting components.I did it there as it's the same material as the rest of the case and so it wasn't noticeable to Apple. Geez!!!
