I wear the silver SS S0 since launch now. Yes you can see those little scratches under lights, but this is how SS looks like.
I like to know that I can grap my autosol polish and polish it like new in 5-10minutes. Its nearly impossible to damage the body on a way I can not sand and repolish it.
If you really want a watch that does not scratch, buy the SS silver... it scratches the most, but it is not visible in normal use, and you can polish it to be scratchless. I polished mine once a year.

I think Gold coating held up better than the plain stainless silver....

Wow silver looks like ****. I assumed both watches were used same amount of time?

im sure apple tested the PVD coating to make sure it makes it a little past the return period. haha kidding.. not kidding..
Based on what I’ve read up on I’m confident the watch will look great for many years to come.

i hope so, too. however, another poster remarked how easily his DLC coated watch flaked off with a knife or something. so im still cautious with the "diamond like coating".

Yea taking a knife to your watch just seems like a stupid thing to do and not at all the same as a real world situation where you’d bang your watch against a door or something. Unless I’m in one of the Saw/Jigsaw movies then I think I’m good with my watch not resisting a direct assault on it with a knife ...

To be more specific, that poster that actually did the ‘Knife testing’ was returning a watch that was defective and tested it, I don’t believe it was easily ‘flaked off’, it just was not as durable as he believed it would be. The reality is, that’s not a practical situation for someone to take a knife to watch to test the coating, when most would never have direct impact of something that sharp.

Its taken from the display sets in apple store...
But most of the time the silver is inside the drawer and gold is just in the table for public to see the new color....

I can confirm that it does micro scratch, not that surprised. I am also really good with taking care of my watches. So far I have 2 tiny ones and one slightly more noticeable one on the bottom part of the casing where the longer part of the band usually connects. They are all frankly really hard to see without shining a light to it at an angle so I don't think it would be visible in most situations. Coming from a previous silver SS it does appear to be more durable from a micro-scratch stand point. The little micro scratches do not bug me but for anyone that would polish off anything at first sight you might want to consider the space black or the silver.

Yep, it was defective so tested the coating before returning it. Yes, it did scratch easier than I thought, but that was an extreme case and wouldn’t put me off getting a SBSS Series 5. Still holding onto my ceramic in the meantime.

After a few weeks and being knocked around on door jambs, etc, no marks---

Never planned on getting a Gold watch. Wanted Black.

But, didn't want to wait. The Gold is great. Stunning with the black sport loop. And, looks great using the gold on black modular watch face. I do also use the infograph.

I see on 5.1 there is a solid gold face with white clock hands. looks nice too.

The microscratcches would bug the bejeebus out of me. I have to silver and plan on returning it strongly considering the SS SB.
The gold stainless made me want to upgrade. But after test driving the silver I really liked the size and the complications on the watch. The reason the regular stainless I have didn’t a raft is because I put a silicone case on as I knew I wasn’t 100% sure I was going to keep it.

I hit mine against something the other day and there is now one little scratch. Oh well, it was bound to happen sooner or later.

sorry to hear that, I have come close to hitting my space black on a file cabinet. I’m hyper aware i have bumped it a few times. No scratches

I have a series 3 SS Space Blk

Here are photos of mine with some light micro scratches and two little tiny dents that I have no idea how they got there. The gold is not resistant to fine scratches. The grime on the watch is visibly different on the photo and I attempted to wipe most of it off to distinguish it from the actual scratches. I’ve had mine for a few weeks.
Again, can’t see normally so it’s fine but if you scrutinize it they do show up. No regrets on the gold personally.

Thanks for posting, it’s really not bad. Glad it’s not ruining the njoyment of your watch.

I have gold ss treated it perfectly still show's some slight scratches almost looks like silver Coming thru. Only seen in sun or bright lighting. Wish was a little stronger coating like the black

An update - that mine which is a month or so after launch still shows no sign of scratches - I exercise with it and have knocked it against walls/doors.

Have u checked under a bright light? . Mine aren't visible just looking at it normally.
