Except the questions to pertains to relativity. It doesn't ever actually state that White is not preofessional or less than professional, simply which is MORE professional.

All depends on the person holding the phone... if you are asking about it then you likely would end up emasculated by the pink iPhone, when Arnold wouldn't.

if I HAD to choose, I'd say black would be a teeny bit more professional than white. however, I think they're both professional looking.

@badandy:

I guess this isn't a comment about the original content of the post; but then again, you've spammed the ever living daylights out of this topic with your misinformed opinion already so I doubt you'll mind. That said, I'm just curious as the logic behind this conclusion:

But phones professionals use are black, and in some cases, silver. A white iPhone stands out. Standing out in style is the opposite of professional (again, assuming we're not talking about advertising or marketing).

How does standing out (i.e. not being the most common) directly correlate to professionalism? Since the best selling car in the US annually is the Toyota Camry, but I drive a BMW 328ci, do I look any less professional because I 'stand out in style'?

Your opinion that black looks more professional may indeed be valid (and I think it is), but your reasoning is garbage. Don't take offense to the fact that nearly everyone in this thread is challenging you; they're merely pointing out the inconsistencies in your argument.

This is a poor place for this question, it seems.

A black looks more professional than a white phone, end of story. If you haven't worked in a business environment, consider your opinion in this thread useless. In fact, if that is the case, I don't understand why you even bothered to voice your opinion in the first place.

It's not that white is just plain out un-professional. If you know your clients/boss then you'll be fine with it, you can judge the situation for yourself. but otherwise, yes a white iphone isn't the best pick UNLESS you really want it or, then it might be worth it.

Ask yourself this:

If I wore a suit to work, would a black suit look more professional than a white suit?

I think the answer translates well to the iPhone. Unless you live in Florida, or female, then black is smart and professional, and white is not.

I stand by what I said. White or black, neither is more professional when you're talking about a phone (which is where this convo headed).

This is a poor place for this question, it seems.

Why is that? I'd venture to guess that outside this wacky site with our wacky personalities many of us are hard-working professionals who do very well ...

I'd like to wear a white suit to work, and have a silver topped ebony cane! Think that's just decided what colour 3GS I should pick!

Black as it'll compliment my white suit :D

Probably not.

I maybe should have used the word "classy" instead of professional. Your BMW, which I absolutely wouldn't consider flashy, is a very classy car. While definitely a quality car that is more expensive than a Camry, it's design is understated and very consistent with the image of a professional. A white plastic phone just isn't in my mind.

Glad to have helped you out. Now please send me the $18 colour consultation fee... :)

Yes, it is more professional to have something that looks just the same as all the other phones.

Leave it on the conference table, and you accidentally mix the phone up with the guy sitting next to you.

All the professionalism in the world just ends up making you look like an ass, when you miss important calls due to having the wrong phone.

Edit: welcome to the world of the highly professional donkey's ass club.

Well - its in the eye of the beholder :D :D

Like you've never been tired and forgot something behind at a meeting, or picked up something belonging to someone else.

Or you work at a place where everyone focuses on the meeting with their undivided attention and never daydreams.

Though there was a crime wave at offices in Phoenix for awhile that depended solely on people not being able to identify their stuff at a glance, people walked into open offices and grabbed laptops and electronics and simply walked out with them.

I don't think it matters either way. Who cares what color your phone is. Just get it and stop worrying what everyone thinks.

I work in a "professional" position and bought the white 3GS model for the simple reason that my fiancee will be getting a black 3G once her current Alltel contract is up next month and I wanted an easy way to tell them apart.

If anyone at work says anything about how it looks, I'll laugh and point at the crap BBs they have been given by the company.
