Yes, it definitely changed my plans to upgrade. Even if Apple walks back on this I'm not sure that I could trust that they removed this from the code. With the planned implementation I could completely turn off iCloud and just manually back up everything myself. But if I'm going to do that, I might as well give Android a try since I wouldn't use any Google cloud stuff there. Also, with Android there are firewall apps that can block connections to Google.
The iPhone offered the balance I was looking for in terms of perceived privacy while offering great convenience with iCloud. Now, I'm having to rethink that balance and it's opening up more doors. The challenge with the Android side of things is finding a smartwatch that will work for me as well as the Apple watch does.
You had a typo, you said Android and Google a couple times there......
I went back in Googles ToS archive to 2014 and they even highlighted they scanned all your data (including emails lol).
Here is how them scanning your photos is a benefit to you! I love how they word this like its a theory almost. Meanwhile Google image recognization software can not only identify anything you show it they will tell you were to buy it! This is current BTW.

This talks about some of the technology Google uses for detecting CSAM and such. Its odd they would also have competing technologies for scanning images.
Google is committed to fighting child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online and preventing our platforms from being used to spread this kind of content.

Content Safety API is so efficient there is no way you won't be arrested.
CSAI is used if you have a video that they didn't scan yet.
Don't get upset though, like seriously do not get upset because SafetyNet is an API in Android that lets apps detect your behavior if its not good so you can be reported to the proper authorities and fixed up.

I always like Lockwatch app. If you enter the wrong passcode into the phone the camera will secretly take a pic and send it too your email. The thief won't even know, yep won't even know the camera he's holding in his hand is taking pics and of him and sending them yeeepppp doesn't even know that its spying on him...Good thing that can't be used on the good guys!
Lockwatch helps you locate and recover your lost or stolen phone

Obviously I'm messing around but here is what Apple did wrong apparently, business wise. They didn't just make it a footnote in the terms of service and ignore the bad press so it goes away in a week. They announced to their customer base they've developed a way to potentially save lives. And like people do, lets not LEARN how the tech works and see if its secure and private to base decisions off fact lets just string em up.
I actually have a conspiracy theory. Up until more recently with gov intervention iCloud Photos has been a vault. Is Apple sitting on a ton of child porn, how liable are they for what they are storing? Trust me I tried the "I'm holding it for a friend" routine when I was younger. Its doesn't work. If you were trying to get people arrested and sickos off the street you would keep it a secret. However if you told everyone those sicko's are going to move it off their servers as soon as humanly possible. I don't know I might be overthinking it. Lol.
TL;DR - There isn't enough time left in our lives for Apple to catch up to Google services and Android privacy invasions.
