The keyboard has a lead time of 3-4 weeks in Germany, nut now available for pick up in some apple stores.
Do you think they were fixing the design or do you think it was only a production shortage and they continue with the old wrong design?

I mean they could easily fix it with some rubber parts in the middle in stead of using only 4 in the edge...where is the problem...?

I'm thinking positively that Apple has recognized the issue and is modifying the design to address the problem. :)

I'm wondering if anyone has ordered one of these since the 3-4 week delay became effective has actually received one after the month-long wait and can report back on how the KB they received looks? It's been long enough that some of these "delayed" items should be making their way into people's hands.

I just saw the numeric keyboard is available in my local Apple store, not sure if it the old or newer version

Anybody's got an alternative to the Magic Keyboard Worth buying ... I need a new keyboard (with numeric trackpad) and Apple's is way too expansive (plus, as I can read here, it bends !)
I use the Logitech K750 wireless solar keyboard for Mac. The only downside is that it's not worth buying if you don't get much sunlight on it or have a bright light by your computer. It takes me 2-3 weeks to charge it under a lamp because I get no sunlight at all where I live and my computer desk has no light source near it. It lasts me for 3-4 months on a full charge though, so I switch to a different keyboard while it charges. I want to buy the new Magic Keyboard eventually. Hopefully the bend will be gone when I do.

The product will not have changed its design without a name/model number change. The keyboards shipping now are the same as those that shipped when the latest revision was released.

Oh no... it’s so stupid.. the keyboard would be perfect for me and the keyboard I was waiting for, if there wouldn’t be the bending problem.
But don’t you think that they made some internal design update? I am working in automotive industry an the parts for cars have very often updates and new releases.. for the costumer it is looking like the same clip or what ever part but maybe material or process has changed...

I have still some hope and will pick it up tomorrow. I guess I will open the box directly in the Apple store to check if it’s not bended out of the box

As recently as this June Apple made a change to the keyboard with no change to the model number or revision. They changed the iconography on the Control and Option keys.

Back in the Lion era, Apple did acknowledge such revisions by changing the part number from /A to /B.

Now they don't bother.

Like most companies, it is well within the realm of possibility for Apple to make changes to be made to manufacturing with no indication from the model designation. I would bet that Apple almost certainly did so here.

In addition: remember the shipping dates suddenly slipped to several weeks. The most recent other example of a product sold by Apple doing this? The LG UltraFine 5K display, which slipped to 5-6 weeks for the duration it took to clear out old stock and bring in new stock that had a Wi-Fi interference fix. They didn't change the part number or even stop selling it, they just extended the shipping estimates considerably. About a month later it was back to "in stock".

Suddenly-slipping ship dates, followed by good availability, screams of a manufacturing revision.

:( I hope we are wrong.

I would really like to think that Apple has done something about this issue...even if it is simple as utilizing a superior heat treatment (which in and of itself could potentially ameliorate the problem.)

I am more interested to see if the space grey KB for iMac Pro has the same bending issues. If it doesn't then it means the white one can / did get fixed. If not then it means Apple probably doesn't give a ****.

I repeat this question. Has anyone tried these?

No experience first hand other than just trying out display models in a store I worked out. They felt nice to type on. Some customers swore by them. A few others returned them with functional issues.

I'm not a lawyer but it seems to me that product revisions affecting functionality would require official acknowledgement and in the case of a revision to address a product that some say bends in regular usage, a recall.

I'll take your word for it on the labeling changes for the keys.

Anxiously awaiting your first impressions of the new KB!

I didn't try bending it, but I played with one yesterday and the design is definitely different. The keys feel amazing and entirely different than the white numeric keypad keyboards. It feels really, really comfortable – more like the MBP butterfly keys but with more travel. I really want to buy one of these keyboards

my white numeric keyobard that came with my imac in june is bent. i went to the apple store this week and they have ordered a free replacement, should be in this week. im crossing my fingers they fixed the production issue.

i also stopped to look at the space grey numeric keyboard that was on display with the imac pro. that keyboard was 100% straight with a gap between the flat desk and the middle of the keyboard exactly the thickness of the rubber feet (no centre feet). the other white numeric keyboard on display was also bent in the middle, although not as bad as mine. but i assume that keyboard is from the first batch.

Why assume that the Space Grey Magic Keyboard that ships with the iMac Pro (and is not available as a standalone purchase) is exactly the same but for the color? Also, if Apple has made structural revisions to their keyboards I would assume that the Apple Store is the first place they'd send the new models.

In spite of my doubts I hope there is a new improved design revision. I'll trade up too. ;)

Ok just got my replacement keyboard. It’s perfectly straight! No design changes I can see externally. This one is a keeper.

IMHO I don’t think Apple has changed the internal design, I think it was more a manufacturing issue that was addressed.

Mine was straight out of the box too, I got it with my 2017 iMac 5K purchase in July. But after a few months the bending happened over time. I would suggest waiting some confirmation if a new batch/revision is in place before hassling for a replacement unit.
