Mine was straight out of the box too, I got it with my 2017 iMac 5K purchase in July. But after a few months the bending happened over time. I would suggest waiting some confirmation if a new batch/revision is in place before hassling for a replacement unit.

i thought people were getting bent keyboards straight out of the box? i honestly cant say about mine, since i didnt notice it right away. i know it never sat right on my table, but i dismissed it at first because my table is rustic and not perfectly flat.

putting a little felt pat in the middle isnt a bad idea. would make the keyboard less bouncy as well.

Like all things with two layers of different material, they are subjected to bending if exposed to "extreme" temperatures due to simple physics, and a "normal" product of this calibre and price is supposed to have that considered and avoided. For my case, I live in a Asia where we don't have heat in the house, so the KB bought in summer had no chance to get bent by the room temperature, which then I suppose it finally did it when winter hits. I conjecture that people who live in places with wider range of daily temp can see the bending within days/hours.

Not sure if it’s a thermal expansion issue. I left the new keyboard in the car, it was about -20c for 3hrs, then brought it inside at +20 and it’s still straight.

I don't think it has anything to do with temperature either. I think the material used was either too soft, not annealed right, too thin, or a combination of some of those things. I think that's why after typing on them a while - the constant downpressure of pressing the keys, with no support under the middle causes a bend in the middle. That's why every keyboard that was sitting out in my local Apple store (on iMac and Mac Pro demo machines) were bent - just from day in/day out of who knows how many sets of hands bashing on the keys.

I'd be keen to know too, thinking of picking one up but want to ensure the issue has been corrected.

I just got one today via apple online. It does have the bend. I think I'll try and hit a store this weekend and swap it out. It's not bad and does not seem to affect the typing experience but after reading this thread it may me more aware of it. I wish I had the ignorance is bliss thing.

So I guess (based on this thread) there's a 50/50 chance it might be ok to order one. I'd be interested if you'd follow up after some time of use to see if it remains "bendless"

Possible. Mine was sent from Amazon but it was sold from Apple.

Selling the one I got and the replacement.

Already bought a Logitech Craft. Takes a massive dump over the Apple Keyboards.

Based on the long history of the original wired keyboard with keypad (no bending), and the fact that there are many "not bent" new keyboards and many that started out flat and bent with use....bent is not normal.

I am using mine now since July 2017, several hours a day on a flat desk surface. It has bent on both ends from regular use. It is warped up by about 2mm on each side. So far this has not hasdany negative impact on use, i.e. it is not wobbling when typing on the sides. Still a flaw that needs to be corrected as they update manufacturing the device.
I will keep using it until it becomes unusable. Travel, touch and feel of the keyboard is great otherwise and a battery charge lasts about 3-4 months.

Mine does not bend in regular usage but, as a test I did try gently bending it myself and was able to get it to dip slightly in the center. I gently bent it back and it has been perfectly flat ever since.

I don't know how people's keyboards are bending through regular usage unless they're leaning (or sitting) on them but they are made of flexible aluminum and will easily bend back.

My mac keyboard is bent too, no idea when it happened or if it was always like that but it got to the point that it was annoying me. I contacted apple support, spoke to three different advisors, uploaded a bunch of photographs only to be told this isn't something that apple are aware of and maybe it's something I did to it so they're not willing to do anything about it. It's very disappointing, apple has changed - they used to be great
