I have 2 Atmos up firing speakers sitting on my mains.
Nothing on the ceiling.
Do you ever feel like installing the real ceiling speakers would be the real deal?
Although I have to admit the ceiling reflection works reasonably well for some sounds. But the seating position has big impact and the sweet spot is rather narrow in my case.

I have 4 on the ceiling and that’s makes big difference. Before I had to up firing on my mail and no comparison.

I posted this in the comments of the latest public beta article but it would probably get more eyes in this thread:

I just checked, and my Kong: Skull Island has the atmos logo and my receiver decodes it as such. One thing I’m not sure has been noted is that before, on my receiver when watching iTunes movies the input is PCM and output is Dolby 5.1. With atmos, the input is atmos as is the output. My setup is a 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos through a pioneer elite receiver. I tested out Kong and my initial thought was the sound is very good, not sure if it’s close to the uhd Blu-ray or not but it’s pretty good.

What kind of speaker setup are you using? Reciever?
I went with the Onkyo HT-S7800:

I'm definitely a noob to home theater and just wanted something simple to start. I wanted to learn a little and understand why I needed this or that for the future. To be honest this thing has the most amazing sound I have ever heard. The first five minutes of Blade Runner 2048 will send chills through you. I could not stop smiling for the entire movie.

I have an “upgraded” HT-S7300, swapped out the HT-R680 for a TX-NR777, and set it up as a 5.1.2 with front highs. Can’t wait ‘til I get home from visiting wifey’s family. Now that Apple has “flipped the switch”, it makes me want to get the newer TX-NR787 to 9 channels to support a 5.1.4.

I have the tx-nr787 and is great receiver

This guy, 'SpareChange' is for me, the best film quality reviewer out there!
Here, he is reviewing Deadpool 2 iTunes 4K HDR. Interestingly, he gives both sound and picture quality a 8.5 which is outstanding for his standards. He does however, feel that the 4K UHD BluRay can do even better especially in the audio of course.

Well damnit! Part 2 just messed up my theory from earlier...

"WHY CAN'T I JUST SEND PCM?
There's a lot more to Dolby audio than just compression! You get the best possible audio quality when the final device in the chain does the audio decoding. Dolby audio bitstreams have metadata parameters that define how surround sound is downmixed to stereo, what type of dynamic range compression should be applied and other useful information. To get the best sound quality out of a television or home theater system, it's best if they receive a Dolby bitstream over HDMI. Additionally, there is NO way of sending Dolby Atmos over PCM over HDMI, so you have to send Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby TrueHD to get the Dolby Atmos experience."

So why the hell is my AVR reporting ATMOS over PCM?

Firmwares? Just a guess.

Just recently purchased on a big sale the TX-NR777. It replaced a Yamaha 773WA, which didn't have Atmos or DTS:X.
The Onkyo is sounding better over all. And Atmos movies is definitely worth the upgrade. It's actually too loud in big action scenes. I have to turn it down. My only big complaint is that I don't hear the vocals or dialogue as well as I would have hoped.
