I just started with Macs. Been a Windows user since 1998 and used iOS since 2008. Came to realize this week I wasted so much time being on the wrong desktop and Apple operating system all these years.

Android, Mac OSX > iOS, Windows

Android File Transfer ftw on Macs!

I'm done with Macs as well. I'd rather carry a brick around with the Dell Precision Workstation 15 7000 series, and an iPad mini in the laptop sleeve for light browsing.

It's over. I wish Steve Jobs would come back from the dead, drive his SL600 through the glass lobby of Apple, take out a golf club from his trunk, and start smashing desks & these poor excuses for computers. Throw Tim Cook off the roof while he's at it.

What have they done to our Father's house? Disgraceful.

I'm on a 2010 MBP 13" and I plan on having it another few years. I'm guessing by 2018 or 2019, I'll try to grab an older 2015 or 2016 MBP and let it ride for 8 or so years. Ain't buying one of these bad boys at those prices. But I'm not going to overreact and say I'm done with Apple computers.

Top spec is an insane £4094 in the UK, the base model is £2349. When Dell is putting out amazing laptops with the same specs or better for £1000 less I just don't know how Apple justifies this to themselves. This isn't competing its price gouging.

Lucky you, if only the UK prices were so reasonable.

It's because of the Brexit though.. that's what Apple tells you, whilst it slaps more then 30% on its prices.. but they do blame Brexit which is just an excuse when you are talking about these prices.

I'm done with Apple Macintosh, I'll use Apple the iOS only company. And consider my next computer, but I really like that new Surface Studio because it's so very clever and innovative. I also like the new Aleinware laptops because they are great value for money.

I am with you on this, cheers mate!

In between reading these forums and hearing about how much better things are for Windows, I had to use a Windows desktop at work. I walk over to the machine and within 2 minutes it is frozen. I have to hit Task Manager and restart apps, losing the progress I was making in what I was doing.

I've been using Microsoft OS since 1995. Nothing has changed about my user experience in that time. Hearing "But Windows 10 is so good" is just hollow, now. Maybe it is. Maybe when the MBP I just ordered is ready for retirement, MS will have earned some trust. But not while I'm still unfreezing their crap at work.

I'm laughing as I had to log into work (MS Desktop) and..... had to launch task manager to kill non-responding apps. then had to reboot... still issues. grrrr I hate Microsoft.

So disregard my earlier whining post.

You know what's funny, I have to do that often on OS X. For what ever reason, Gotomypc hangs on my system and the only way to kill it is to use the force quit option. I've just so recently had to issue a killall Finder yesterday as well

Has anyone considered the free OS in this equation ? As part of Microsoft's software as a service model the use of Windows 10 on a PC will allegedly come with a monthly cost which could add to the considerably to the cost of a Windows PC over the life of the system.

Uh, where did you get that from? Windows 10 gets free updates, maybe you're thinking about Office 365 subscription?

I'm sure it's true for others too, but when I say Windows 10 is better - this is with all drivers/firmware updated and anniversary edition installed and at the latest version. Also I think you're missing half the OS if you're using it purely as a desktop/laptop, and not a convertible.

I've seen too many posts where people claim to use it at work and that it has issues, yet they're probably running older hardware, are not completely updated, or have third party security software running.

Also, in years of owning a 15" retina MacBook pro - do you know how many beach-balls I've seen? Way too many, and that's with 16GB ram.

So the "I use it at work and it sucks" complaint is kind of hollow to me.

I still have at least 2 years on my late-2013 MBP, maybe 4. Let's see what happens between now and then. Going back to Windows would be an absolute last-resort move.

Don't blame crappy hardware purchases on the OS. I use Supermicro and have had zero issue with Windows 8 and 10, Linux, VMWare vSphere, etc.

This. On top of the student discount dropping from 20% to 10% and the decrease in the GBP exchange rate putting the price up 25% on top of the Touch Bar tax, I'm priced way, WAY out of the market. Guess I'll have to look for one of those 'job' things before I can consider an MBP.
Student discount was not 20% it was 14%. Very different. I am disappointed with Apple over the pricing but let's not sensationalise shall we.

Our whole house is Apple ecosystem. We've used nothing but Apple pc's for well over a decade and I've been waiting to see what the MBP offerings would look like. What Apple put out there today is simply insulting.

I use my laptop for work, as does my wife. I don't need a silly emoji bar, though it doesn't really bother me. What I need is functionality (power/speed, battery life, portability, longevity, comfort) and a price that makes sense as a value proposition. The combination of fewer ports, a crappier keyboard, and price gauging for minor upgrades (RAM, HD) is not acceptable.

We'll be just fine using iphones and Windows laptops from now on and I'll be giving a serious look to dumping my Apple stock at some point. They've abandoned what made them a company and brand I attached to.

Seriously doubt your whole house is Apple because you would realise that they make superior products that last. Maybe it's been too long for you away from the seriously frustrating world of other OSs. Good luck to you in Windows land, I don't think you will have much fun

Had to use that in my days of using OSX, too. OSX is rather stable unless you're really working it. Then you have problems. If he's blaming Microsoft on an application that his company uses and wasn't compiled by Microsoft, then he has little ground to stand on. It's the fault of the developer, not the OS. If it were the OS, then Apple would be at fault for a lot of crappy and buggy software on OSX that's come out in the last decade.

To be fair, he's probably thinking of rumors that came out more than a year ago.

They sell to individuals? I thought you had to be a retailer or authorized dealer to buy their hardware. What are you running, if you don't mind me asking?

No Backlit Apple Logo - No Extension Cable - Price Hike.

Next generation : No more box, we will ship it phenomenal new casing : Apple Patented O2 Filled Engineered by Jony Ive design Bubble Wraps, and hey while we start why don't we charge you a $ every time you log in using your finger print.

Or, why does even laptops need a charger ? They can sell it as an accessory or like IKEA, where we can build our own Macs.

I cant wait to see the next gens...

End users can buy Supermicro from several etailers. I got mine from superbiiz.com. Have a couple of workstations/servers based on Opteron 6300, Supermicro H8SGL-F-O, 32GB DRAM (expandable to 256GB), etc. for personal vSphere proof of concept testing otherwise they're running Windows 10 or Linux.

Ah. Know of any close to California? I've flirted the idea with building a quad Xeon setup and slapping on Windows Server for personal use. But my research says it's more cost effective in the long run to grab the highest clocked and highest core Xeons you can budget for. I'm on IB-E at the moment and it's a dead socket unless I go used for better parts.
