Can anyone please measure the distance between the two ports?

So I took a look at the tech specs page: https://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/specs/
There's a schematic drawing of both sides of the 15". It mentions the total width is 9.48" (24.07 cm). The drawing is 628 pixels wide. Both sides show 16 pixels space between the Thunderbolt ports.

So between the ports, there's (9,48/628)*16 = 0,24" space (6 mm). Plus or minus, say, 0.1 inches.

WOW, thanks for the effort! However I was hoping someone with nTB will measure it so we can be sure.

HooToo Shuttle USB 3.1 Type-C Hub with Power Delivery for Charging, SD Card Reader, 3 USB 3.0 Ports:
This USB c hub is on sale for 41.59cad at Amazon.ca for the next 12 hours... Looks like a good deal.

I use a Sitecom CN-071 USB 3.0 hub. Is it possible to get a cable that connects it directly to USB-C? I presume a USB-B to USB-C (3.0 SS) cable is needed?

Belkin sees something that looks like it, but they say it's a USB 2.0 printer cable. I just learned about USB-B and I suspect this is what the hub uses. Can anyone confirm this so I know what I should look for?

I am interested in this hub. But I wonder if anyone has it and if it works with the late 2016 Macbook Pro 13 inch, no touch bar. I want to attach external drive, and need the USB ports, don't care about the SD card reader.Thanks.

My plan is to buy only one but my concern is that its size will make the other port unusable even for the power plug.

That's not true. With one plugged in I can also use the Apple power cable in the other port to charge just fine.
[doublepost=1478850316][/doublepost]What's the best HDMI to USB-C?

I'm concerned about the cheap cables catching fire and causing damage to the machine.

Also, is the Apple multimedia £49 item compatible with USB 3.0?

Yes, it's 3.0

The one I got has everything. HDMI, 3 USB, Ethernet FFS, MicroSD and all. Pass through charging I am not really bothered. I will use one of my other 3 ports.

9to5Mac did a review on one of their products yesterday and all looks good. Nothing that should worry me.

Yes, but this one hangs by a wire, I wanted something that sticks to the side. Plus it seems like a very new product that has not been tested yet.

They have one of those as well. But it will block the other port. And I don't see a hub coming that sticks to the side for the same reason.

I wanted a dongle with everything rather than investing time and again with dongles down the line.

I have a good feeling that it will serve me well. Only because it got shipped before the hillbilly got elected. LOL

After watching this

I will stick with Apple adaptors since they work. Not going to risk it
I think this was addressed in a separate thread as well. The guy is using rubbish dongles. I will post some top comments if I manage to find it. But if I were you, I won't care much on what he has to say.

What are the actual discounts that apple are offering on cables because either apple were taking the utter pee at first with their prices or they haven't actually discounted many things at all.

The usb-a -> usb-c cable at £9 seems alright but the multiport dongle is £49, the lightning to usb-c is £19 etc

They can't have been charging £29 for a 1m usb-c -> lightning cable before can they. Was the multiport cable £79 or something?

I ordered the USB c hub for hypershop.
Had anyone found a USB c male to female extension yet? Can't find a reliable one with decent reviews.

So many questions and issues here - would love some advice!

I've ordered and am awaiting the 13" touchbar so am in need of USB C accessories. I'm a photographer and cannot function without an SD card reader (full size), and some way of transferring from the SD card to an external hard drive, and then transferring from one HD to a second as a backup.

I deal with large numbers of files, so will regularly need to transfer 35000 images, or about 30 64gb SD cards of RAW files to the HD to then import into my lightroom catalog. Given the numbers and sizes of files I'm dealing with, they have to live on the ext HD as one shoot can cover 2tb of raw files. Again, given the sheer volume of files, speed is going to be critical. I'm working in the field (Brazilian Amazon for three months) with no internet access and no shopping facilities so whatever I get needs to be super reliable and as lightweight as it can be. I'm also going to need to transfer files to other PCs with the standard ports so still need that option too.

So here's where I get confused on options.
1) Buying a couple of these - https://www.amazon.co.uk/TOFOCO-Macbook-Chromebook-Supported-Devices/dp/B019DP8AFO - usb c to micro b cables to plug into the hard drives directly into the ports and then buying the expensive sandisk usb-c card reader which is bulky and ugly- c£50 - expensive and messy but if it's significantly the fastest then I might go for it

2) Buying this USB 3 hub- https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B019E6YVXC/ - and then then a c to micro-b as above and just swapping out the cable it comes with, using everything as I normally would- c£20 - thoughts on speed hits I might take?

3) Buying a Satechi or Hootoo hub with a couple of usbA ports and an SD card reader- c£40 - have read poor things about reliability transferring between HDs and I cannot afford to corrupt a drive but it does look to be the smallest and neatest, how unreliable are they?

4) buying a bundle of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Adapter-Charging-Convert-Converter-ChromeBook/dp/B019XSJGN6 - and sticking them on everything and pretending USB c never happened - c£10. How much of a speed hit will I take - especially converting a highspeed USB card reader like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Transcend-MicroSD-USB-Card-Reader/dp/B009D79VH4/ to C?

Any input gratefully received!

Still not clear for me about the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter from Apple.

I have 2 displays which I currently use with Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cables. Is the Apple adapter right in order to keep using these displays with the new MacBook Pro without buying new cables?

Thanks
