Are you able to confirm that it doesn't run at USB 3.0? Seems like it's lacking a lot of functionality.
I haven't, but quite a few reviewers did point it out. I tried another hub that didn't work. This fit my needs for now. Hopefully, there will be better choices in the near future.

Hey everyone! Was wondering whether my external hdd and ssd (Samsung m3 and a Samsung t3) will work well through apple's official USB-c to USB adapter. Has anyone experienced any issues with external drives and adapters on the new MacBook pros ?
I initially considered the hootoo hub or the newer satechi hub (with hdmi), but for quality guarantee i chickened out and decided to get the official apple hub with hdmi, usb 3.0 and lightning and buy an extra usbc to USB adapter.

EDIT: I've been reading some other reviews of the adapter and some say they've been having issues trying to charge their iPhone 6/6s with the standard lighting to USB cable through this adapter, strange or has anyone had this issue too?
Also I'm now considering the small aukey usbc to USB adapter instead of the Apple one as it's cheaper and very small...thoughts?

read my post on the previous page about Aukey.

Hey

Been thinking about an extra power charger and the price is horrendous. Need he charger, plus extension plus the USB-C cable itself! Combined total is £110 !!!

So I found that the chromebook pixel from google also uses USBC charging and the pixel is an i5 processor model. Their universal charger is 60w and costs £50, incl long power cable and long USBC cable.

https://store.google.com/product/universal_type_c_60w_charger

I asked Benson Leung on Google+ who investigates USBC cables and he reckons the charger should be fine and is very comparable to the Apple 61w charger.

So I'm going to get it for charging at home (not when stressing it like at work, I'll use the Apple one for that. ) and I'll let you know if it's good.

So, if i want to connect my new macbook pro to my 1080P TV (not currently 4k, but will be in a year or so), is it better to use the adapter? Or would a USB-C to HDMI cable work fine? Would the cable even be HDMI 2.0 or need to be?

Would it just be plug and play? (i.e. plug the HDMI end into the tv and select that input and I should see/hear everything on my mac?

Also, would there be HDCP issues trying to get netflix or other streaming services onto the TV via HDMI?

Should both be fine. If you want to use your existing cables, then a USB-C to HDMI adapter should be fine.

I've got this up and running on my 15": https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KV530UU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's working surprisingly well. As I write this from the new MBP on an external 1080p monitor with a single cable plugged in. Loving it!

I got my PrimeCables hub in the mail today. It comes with hdmi 4K @ 60, Ethernet, USB-A 3.0 and USB-C charging. Looks really nice! It's not that super light crappy white plastic that lots of cheap stuff is made out of.

Congrats! It looks great.

Please do some testing (with everything plugged to it) to see whether it will under-load or fail. Thanks!

I have yet to order mine.

Are you using the power pass through on this adapter? It doesn't really give any wattage information on what it can handle, but your 15" will be using 87W. Also any ideas about the performance of that USB 3 port?

I don't plan on using it for actually charging through as there are 4 ports so no need, but i'll see how it does.

Yep, I've got pass-thru plugged in. Haven't been doing anything intensive, so the 60W it's passing through is enough to keep the battery charged as well as power the MBP. If I did any encoding/ripping then it'd probably start draining the battery to get enough power beyond the 60W provided. USB runs at the full 3.0 speeds. Did push ~300GB of data over the wire, and was able to achieve a sustained 800Mbps over the ethernet port. HDMI outputs perfectly as well. Can't be overstated how nice it is to have a single cable to plug in. The only con is that the cable is really short so doesn't sit well while my MBP sits atop the rain design stand. At the prices I've seen the TB3 ports, I'm really just considering getting the CalDigit USB-C dock. It'll provide 60W of power, which'll suffice while I'm at home. I can always grab the external power brick and plug into another USB-C port to get the full 87W if needed.

The versatility of these new machines is amazing.

What model are you referring to exactly? The photos look like it's the PrimeCables Cab-CUEH01, and this only supports 1080p and not 4K@60Hz via HDMI, see link: http://www.primecables.com/p-354262...dapter-type-c-charging-port-15cm-primecables-

Can someone recommend me a dongle for my Apple Cinema HD display? I now tried 2 different ones from amazon and the second I plugged the cable in the cinema HD AND MBP displays framerate dropped to 2-3 fps.

Kind of frustrated now. I am having a nice display I can't use :( My other cheap HDMI LG monitor works seamless with a hoo too hub.

ps: the search function didn't give me any results when searching for "cinema hd"

Can anybody confirm that the hootoo shuttle usb c hub with power delivery charges the macbook pro 15 TB? I ordered one and I am not sure if let through 87w for mbp 15

What about the space between the 2 USB-C conectors in the 15" MBP? I'm worried if there won't be enought space to connect 2 USB-A adapters like the Aukey ones because they will touch each other.

There are no solutions that provide 87W pass through. The only one advertised is the Belkin TB3 dock and the LG 5k display. The dock is reportedly going for $400 and the display is $1k. I went with the previously mentioned $40 adapter for on-the-go connectivity.

Turned out the new MBP barely sips any power, so unless you're doing heavy processing all the time stick with the small adapter. You can always unplug the power cable from the adapter and directly into the adjacent USB-C port to get the full 87W to the MBP.

So i just ordered my 13" skylake MBP.

I'm currently running a 2010 MBP on an external display (Displayport to Mini Displayport), along with 1x USB mouse, and 1x USB keyboard.

Does anyone know of a dongle (or combination of dongles/adapters) that may cover my need?

I thought about converting to using HDMI to USB-C but i don't know which is the most appropriate cable to connect my shiny new MBP to my external monitor (I thought it was DP?)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have 2 4k LG monitors with displayport and ended up purchasing displayport to usb-c to get the monitors to work with my 15" MBP. I initially purchased the j5 Create usb type-c to 4k displayport cable (bestbuy sells them) and it didn't work well. Monitors kept going out and flickering. Then I purchased these from amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EXKDRAC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So far they work great. No flickering. Those wanting to use displayport to usb-c, I learned that not all cables will work with the new MBP.
