I still believe. Maybe that November 2nd date for the event will bear out. I really want to know the details--retina will make it or break it for me.

Retina would be cool if the price is right. I am more worried about how much storage space will be available on the base model.

I know I was being playful at first, but please don't neglect the fact that I just clearly stated why it's a 100% sure that this isn't happening.

At least not within 2012. March 2013 we'll see what they come up with until then buy an iPad 3.

LOL everyone point and laugh at this guy.

Yeah probably not much storage. Retina is important for me because an iPad mini will be primarily a reading device.

Retina is extremely unlikely I think. It's supposed to be extremely thin. And retina would have adverse effects on the unusually thin margins from a lower cost iPad.

I found reading to be perfectly fine on the iPad 2. A non-retina Mini will have a sharper display with higher pixel density than the iPad 2

I don't like reading on the iPad 2, the resolution does bother me. And at this point, all the competition (Kindle Fire HD, Nook HD etc) have high resolution screens for a low price, it wouldn't make sense to me to buy a $300 (for example) iPad mini with low resolution. It's going to be appeal greatly to the ereader market and I feel like resolution matters a lot for reading.. Also Apple is moving towards making most of its products retina. I could see it not being retina but again for me that would be a dealbreaker with all the other devices out there with likely lower prices and better screens for reading.

You missed his point. Yes the resolution would be the same but the screen size smaller so the pixel density is higher so text is sharper than on an iPad2. The Kindle Fire and Galaxy won't have a better screen.

Several sites are reporting the Nexus 7 is about to a debut a 32 gig model. Some are going to so far to claim the 16 gig will become the $199 model and 32 gig will be the $249 model.

It does 99% of what I'd use a tablet for (web, books, Netflix, slingbox, movies, simple games).

If the iPad Mini arrives with the right specs and price, it'll be my first choice. But I'd have zero problems grabbing a Nexus 7 instead.

The ppi would not be significantly better than the iPad 2's. I believe the iPad 2 is around 132 ppi, and the iPad mini would be (if rumors are correct concerning the resolution) 164 ppi. Compare that to the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD at 216 ppi. So, I disagree that the kindle and the "galaxy" won't have a better screen or that my post somehow missed the point. 164 ppi is quite low and fonts would be noticeably less sharp than the competitor 7 inch tablets.

Good point. I didn't know the Kindle and "Nexus" had a 216 ppi screen. Still 164 is a lot better than 132. But maybe not enough for you. Too bad they have Android or Kindle interfaces.

Looks like my theory that I laid out on the first page of this thread may actually be true then...

March, alongside the iPad 4.

Yeah, I also think in March could be the real launch date. I think I'll go with iPad 3, if no iPad mini in October.

This pretty much proves imminent premiere of the iPad Mini. One of the biggest, most reliable and respected iDevices accessories company has just started production of accesories for the smaller iPad

164 is identical to the original/3G/3GS iPhones. So that gives a good idea.

Quite crappy in fact (when compared to every retina device).
The only upside is the distance eye-screen, a little bit bigger on the iPad.

Yup, was thinking the same thing. Looking at a 3G/3GS screen is pretty painful after using an iPhone 4/4S/5/etc..

I guess it all makes sense. The 7.85" size helps to use the iPad 1024x768 resolution and to make use of the LCD manufacturing that was for the 3GS which has also recently stopped being sold.

What do you reckon...if the event(?) is on 23rd...when will it be available?

Where does the line start?
