I do not see instructions in the apple link for calibration just adjusting slider and that auto means it will adjust to the ambient light in your environment. Doesn’t talk about the calibration mentioned above by theyayarealiving. I assume that when I setup the new phone it also is doing that then???
The auto-calibration is set up by default. If you set your iPhone up as new or whatever it’s already set. But if you tell Siri to turn your brightness up or move the brightness slider up yourself… auto brightness gets messed up. It is no longer set as a default setting anymore.

So you turn off auto-tone when it’s daylight?
No not tone, the appearance dark vs bright setting above True Tone setting.

Ah thats why I have no problem i let it auto calibrate without even paying attention and then never mess with it explains much

I keep playing with my brightness slider. 😁🤦‍♂️😂

Battery life isn’t the problem for me, been amazing, it’s this piss yellow, red tint display.

this stupid brightness slider keeps moving, starting to get annoyed lol, does it ever stop?

How long does the calibration period take?
LOL! The calibration is pretty much instaneous. This is what I did. I went into a complete pitch black room. On my phone, I turned off Auto Brightness and then on again. Now you set the brightness level in the pitch black room to what you want the brightness to be when the lights are off. This will be the reference point that is used to adjust the brightness in different lighting conditions. Once you set the reference in pitch black, leave auto brightness on. Now turn on the ligthts. Thats it, all done with calibration.

For me I set my reference to be about 2% in pitch black. And when I am in a lighted room, the brightness is 35%. Perfect. My display never looks dim.

Battery % is rather wonky in general right now. Yesterday, I was at 100% and used my 13 pro max for maybe 45 minutes and it said 82% left. That would be crazy drain. I restarted and it showed 95%. Restarted a third time and it said 87%. Seems to have stabilized today but who knows what I actually have left.

It’s still daylight here, 3pm 😁

You need to calibrate it dude. You want Tim Cook to do that for you or what? 😂
I stuffed it up 😂 I’ll put the blanket over my head and calibrate it again. 🤦‍♂️

You might have something running in the background or a setting that is causing your battery drain. Post your 24 hour battery Screen On/Off chart. Make sure to include the apps shown below the chart. Also, select "Show Activity" that will show which apps are running in the foreground and background.

Turn that True Tone off lol it’s bugging me. Yucky yellow screen… you like that?

See post above @Taz Mangus

That’s the night shift the blue white daytime colors are not conducive for winding down and producing melatonin at late evening so i can go to sleep thats why apple added the feature. I try to get 8 hours sleep and want to sleep when I go to bed fairly soon after. The blue white daytime lights of your device are not good for you.

The brightness adjusts slowly up and down. This is so that your eyes can adjust the lighting condition.
So with auto brightness on, turn brightness all the way down in a dark room, then go into settings and toggle off and on auto brightness and don’t touch the brightness slider ever again? 🚫👉

I see what you are saying. Turn on True Tone at night time.

You don't need to touch the brightness. Go into a closet, close the door. Now when it is pitch black, turn off Auto Brightness and then on again. What will happen is the brightness will go all the way down. Now move the brightness to however you want the display to be when it is pitch black. I set mine to about 2%. Once you do that, you are done. Don't touch the brightness, let it adjust it on its own.

I had fiddled with the auto brightness bar tonight during discussion so I calibrated golly that works and is interesting learned something valuable. It was near zero in dark and as I turned on my office lights it went to near 35 or 40 cannot tell it does not say a number. Anyway quite interesting….

Ok just did same with my iPad Pro this is cool to know.

You only adjust the brightness in pitch black and that becomes the reference brightness. Then auto brightness will adjust based on the reference brightness. In my case I set the reference brightness to 2%. When I am in a lighted room, the brightness goes to 35% on its own. This will actually save battery life because it is not necessary to have the brightness always at one value, say 35%. Brightness adjusts down in the dark, that saves battery life.
