You only adjust the brightness in pitch black and that becomes the reference brightness. Then auto brightness will adjust based on the reference brightness. In my case I set the reference brightness to 2%. When I am in a lighted room, the brightness goes to 35% on its own. This will actually save battery life because it is not necessary to have the brightness always at one value, say 35%. Brightness adjusts down in the dark, that saves battery life.
Where do you see a actual percentage. I was only guessing the 2% almost down to end, and the 35 or whatever also a guess when I turn my lights back on (its night and dark here)

You don't need to touch the brightness. Go into a closet, close the door. Now when it is pitch black, turn off Auto Brightness and then on again. What will happen is the brightness will go all the way down. Now move the brightness to however you want the display to be when it is pitch black. I set mine to about 2%. Once you do that, you are done. Don't touch the brightness, let it adjust it on its own.
Done!

How do the colors look. I did not know to not mess with the brightness, probably screwed up things on Ipad well its now calibrated as are my 13 ProMax an interesting experience watching the bar move as I turned on lights in my office (It is dark here almost 11:30 PM)

@LFC2020 leave the brightness slider alone. Stay away from it.

I was estimating on the percentage. There is a way you can have it tell you, by writing a Shortcuts to display it. But otherwise it is only an estimation.

Good maybe at least with that we are on to something…. I learned a lot about this as I generally just setup and leave alone but on 12 I admit I played with it probably messed it up LOL. I did that on 13 tonight during this discussion but now both phone and ipad are recalibrated. You must have sunny brighter environment at 3 PM than my office with lights at 11:30 PM

Will recalibrate again once it’s night time here.
