Thanks, at least your not the crazy people screaming at Apple about the whole $20 business. Thanks, and we will.:)

Last night, on the 16th of Jan, I opened up iPhoneDrive and scanned my iPod Touch as iTunes showed an extra 90 odd MB of 'Other' in the coloured bar. I found a Downloads Folder (Even though Safari cannot download Items, and iTunes uses a Different One in the System) and it contained a blank Manifest.plist file. Could anyone scan their iPods WITH the Jan Upgrade and see if the Manifest file is in the Downloads Folder of Advanced Mode in iPhone Drive and see if it is Blank or Not? If it isn't then maybe copy that file and place it on another Non-Upgraded iPT and see if the Apps arrive? If they do then it would be stress of peoples shoulders and gratitude would come your way from the Thousands (maybe even Millions) of Apple Fans and Angry Apple Fans around the globe.

Cheers

its there and blank

So that confirms...

That the Download is just an Activation of the Apps by Adding a few lines to the Plist file inside the iPod, put there by either Apple or iTunes 7.5/.6. Maybe if someone figured out how to copy the Full Plist file to an iPod with a No System Plist, maybe that is how people might upgrade for free or via a Rapidshare or Torrent. Moves like this promote Apple's worst nightmares such as Jailbreaking the iPod Touch or getting software Pirated from them. They are trying to stop the Piracy and Jailbreaking, then why make these Bad Moves which promote it?

P.S. - Thanks 'gnuguy' for the Research.
P.P.S. - Cheers!!!!

Yeah, we believe so. It's almost like they have the Apps "hidden" like in Customize. Were working on it at full stream.:)

Good Work, Keep It Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great Work, I hope you eventually crack it. I won't give up on this (Very Headstrong Apple Fan) although I will probably purchase the download, in the meantime I will continue writing my 1.1.3 Jailbreak for the Touch and iPhone. I am currently at 87.24% of my target development of it and it is looking good!!!!

Cheers, and hope you complete it!!!!!!!

Good Luck

Thanks for all the support, we are currently working late nights trying to find how the files are added to the ipod, as well as what files are modified during the update.

Glad..

Glad to give the support you need!! Especially when your working so hard and deserve it from more people.

Well, from using some sources, i can determing that it looks like only the persons name is stored in the update files that are in the 20kb file.

Ideas...

If you or anyone could hack the files that contain the persons name in question, and make a method before install, to open them up - enter their name and details - and zip them back to way Apple had them, and install it to the iPod in question. That would be a better alterntative. And I think I read somewhere that Apple store the update in the Folder that iPhoneDrive is allowed to access, so that would make it alot easier for hackers to do this. If you need any help, feel free to ask, but it may take a while as I am in Australia!!!

Cheers!!!! :D

Thanks for all the support, and yes any help would be greatly appreciated. As for the whole swapping out the names, im not sure that fixes the install problem. I think that i might be onto something, to where the master certificate that is loaded on the users computer contains the serial of the ipod that the files changes, and this is reflected into one of the nikita files, of which i have not found how they are encrypting the serial in the file in order to change it out.

Just printed out both files from Notepad. In the mainfest folder, it just talks the build, version, name, etc. I did see my name in the nikita_reciept.plist though. Interesting, working through the night...:apple:

Name It...I'l Try

Thankyou for accepting my offer, Name the help and I will try as hard as I can to contribute. I think you can P.M on the site.

Cheers!! :D

the sinf file is the only file that is genereated at the time of download the rest of the files have a modification date of jan 12th at 10:53AM. So I think it is safe to say that's were any changes would need to be made

Pip your name appears in the sinf file

Yeah, so many crazy Apple encrypted files, I can't remember the exact names of them.:p

Gosh, for the nikita_reciept file (the one that looks encrypted), looks like some of the language has a Chinese/Japanese background to it. Yeah, I sent it through a translator, but I had to feed it a little piece. There question marks and jibberish of English. Does this have to do with anything?

Gawd, my eyes are sore for looking at this junk for the past hour.

This is a true fact that you have pointed out. Now were trying to work out what is in those two other files that are encrypted that we can not read, which are the receipt files.

Exploring the SINF File...

I managed to open the .sinf file in 0xED and alot of gibberish appeared, so far I cannot even locate the extension of the file inside 0xED such as .sinf or .zip or even .ipa

Ill continue looking further....ill post periodic updates.

Cheers!!! :D

Ok, glad to be of service. Working at it, but some of the stuff isn't even a language, just symbols. Working at it, even though its nearly midnight here.

But hey, I think this is a little exciting.;)

Good to hear the updates, as for me, Im off to bed, i have a meeting with a senetor tommorrow about some grants for a college in my local area.

Yeah I know it's ironic, that is why it is so frustrating trying to figure out apple think different approach.

The Reciept is a .txt file...

I tried the same method of opening the Reciept in 0xED and found that like the Cover Flow images in iTunes, Apple just encrypted them with a False Header that renders the file unreadable. I removed this header by deleting all the Entries above .ip7 .ipa or whatever and left .txt, it opens a blank text file in TextEdit so I think I did something wrong. I maybe onto something though, I don't know...

Cheers!! :D
