What do you mean "He only designed the physical appearance of the calculator?"

Thats what design is! lmao come on humanity, come on.

So you're making him out to be a genius because he dragged the proportions out and spaced it out until he liked it?

Wow.

Steve Jobs knew a great product sold itself, now apple is going for the "cool factor".

I just think of people putting wing's on their rice rockets, or fake hood scoops on v6 mustangs. Just making something "look cool", or "look fast" doesn't mean it is.

One might have thought a perfectionist would actually make some decent headphones; the quality of which likens to a potato on a string but costs close to a iPad Mini.

I just put a potato on a string and tried to listen to music on it. I thought I was going to be saving a ton, but it didn’t work at all. Did I miss a step? Please advise.

The dude misread my post.
That I did. And of course I don't have the numbers for quantifying failures of either product (Beats or iPhones). I think they're we can both admit that they are better than the early Microsoft Xbox 360s though :D

This place sure does not take to kindly to opposing views. I think I've been called dumb, stupid, and racist all within an hour. Maybe I am out of touch with the real Apple culture (if MR is a representation of that) and the people who buy three pairs of Beats understand Apple better than I do

Maybe apple is really lonely at the top and needs to feel better by passing along some of the fame they got from Steve Jobs!

Wow.

Although I do think he is a genius, I'm not using the calculator design example to support such an opinion.

Person X: Jobs never designed anything.
Person Y: He designed the calculator.
Person X: omgz you think he genius?!

Go dig into jobs history!
You will find a lot of cruel and uncivilized behavior as well!

I know but thats irrelevant. Classic second grade argument, "Well stteeeeve did this or thaaaat" No excuse for beating women sorry. I know people here are apple fans though, and Dre works there now so I'm not gonna get anywhere. Sometimes people are so disappointing.

Should have seen this hate coming from the title. Seriously, no one is saying that Dre has any background in IT, of course that's not saying Jobs was on the level of Woz either. But what they have in common from a business perspective is vision, attention to detail, and drive. They both have a knack for know what will sell and has/had more hits than misses. Now judging on that criteria alone, Dre is probably Jobs equal or close to it. A young kid from the war zone of Compton, managed to produce several iconic musicians, record labels, a company, etc. and is now at Apple. Give him a few years of mentoring at Apple about the tech industry and he may exceed Jobs. I love Steve as much as the next Apple fan, but c'mon let's be honest (and I work in the tech industry btw) Steve was more executive than programmer, developer, etc. he was good at driving goals, having insight, and steering his companies in the right direction. Dre did the same exact thing, except his products were major musical talents like NWA, Tupac, Eminem, 50 Cent, etc. but unlike Steve, he also brought things he created himself to market i.e. his albums/tracks. Again, this was a kid who grew up in a part of CA that Steve would have never dared to go to and yet.... So I wonder why the hate? I actually believe that they're on to something with this comparison.

The gist of what I personally try to push on these forums is that assuming other people are making wrong decisions because they are not the decisions we personally would make is, at best, silly. It can also be potentially hurtful, and is almost always antagonistic.

The simple truth is that liking or disliking Beats is a personal choice, and it doesn’t make a person stupid or anything like that in either case. I think it’s silly that people have called you all of those things over headphones, but having read a fair number of your posts, I think it’s also silly that you seem to think that you know what superior headphones are. You obviously know what is superior to you, and you probably know some people who would agree with you. Heck, I know some people who would agree with you. But I also know people who listen to Sennheisers and dismiss them as weak and overpriced. So, you know. Personal use case.

Should we really be getting worked up over something that is completely objective?

This is the silliest thing I have read in months. I actually JUST registered to post how much I laughed when I read this article's title.

  • Any person that has ever listened to Dr. Dre's Beats headphones knows that they were not designed by a perfectionist.
  • Anybody that has ever owned Beat's headphones knows that they fall apart after a month. They also know that Beat's were not designed by a perfectionist.

Who really buys into this bologna?

Anybody who ever heard Dre's production and mixing knows it was done by a perfectionist.

Then again....

Andre Young is a violent, misogynistic criminal. The fact that Apple has let this worm crawl inside, is a tragic event indeed.

how old was he when this occurred and what year is it now? So if you do something when you're young and stupid, that's who you are in your 40's or does this standard only apply to Dre? hmmmmmmmm

MR is absolutely fine with opposing views. What you did was something totally different. You created an account to push a narrative that you thought would be well received here. When it wasn't, to your credit, you backed away from it... some. You also pushed your opinions as some sort of declarative fact. It's still just your opinion. Just like this is mine.

You don't like Beats. Fine. Some people do. Equally fine. It's that simple.

LOL, what a perfect match. Apple and Dre have lots of things in common. Mainly, selling subpar products at ridiculous prices but they sell because some people think it's "cool".

Then you're really mad at the Wall Street Journal for the comparison? Because that's who made the comparison. MacRumors is just reporting it.

It's annoying when people constantly bash Macrumors for their posts... but this one takes the cake. Maybe worst post ever.

There's an extremely tiny list of human beings that you could compare to Steve Jobs. Dr Dre isn't even in the same universe.

That's fair. With Apple being such a design oriented company, I would have assumed that most of the decision making by apple customers would be passion driven and not so much analytical. So what you are saying makes good sense.

The simple truth is that liking or disliking Beats is a personal choice, and it doesn’t make a person stupid or anything like that in either case.

Headphones are a very personal choice. I agree. I also never called anybody stupid.

but having read a fair number of your posts, I think it’s also silly that you seem to think that you know what superior headphones are.

It's very easy to know what headphones are superior to Beats with regards to build quality, frequency response, and phase response.

You obviously know what is superior to you, and you probably know some people who would agree with you. Heck, I know some people who would agree with you. But I also know people who listen to Sennheisers and dismiss them as weak and overpriced. So, you know. Personal use case.

Again, I would NEVER suggest Senn's to a potential Beat's customer. I think I even advised against it earlier. Senn's are for people that are interested in a neutral / analytical listening experience. Sennheiser doesn't really color any of the headphones in their line ups.

That said, there are MANY headphones are there that are vastly superior to Beats that are colored in a way that a Beat's customer would enjoy. The argument against these headphones is that they consumer says "I cannot wear those in public". In my mind, this breaks down the Beat's product line to simple jewelry. But this is my opinion. You do not need to adopt my opinion. If you feel that you need to try to offend me for expressing my opinion or wanting to share my love of 'real' headphones so be it.

Should we really be getting worked up over something that is completely objective?
Why not? If you can express yourself and be respectful to others, why not get worked up over things?
