At this point, if I have a beer or 2 or a martini or 2 or a scotch or 2.. I will have a hangover within 2 hours. That alone is enough to keep me from the sauce.

A couple of Thursdays a month I go to a friend's house to play poker, and I usually drink a bottle of red wine there. Every once in a while we hit a pub that's right next to our office building. I drink 2-3 beers tops.

When I'm on the road (most of the time now), I like to eat with a nice wine, and sometimes order a couple of beers at a bar the night before coming home. Depends on where I am, I guess.

Up until a 2-3years ago I used to go out pretty much every night, except Sundays and maybe Tuesdays or Wednesdays. I guess I'm getting old ... :(

How old are you? That's not normal...even for a college student. The average US college student has about 1.5 drinks per week. Even frequent binge drinkers, who are only 20% of the student population, only average 14.5 drinks per week.

14.5 per week?

Pfff.... Try going out for one night in the UK, you will be shocked! :p

EDIT: Thats not bragging as I dont drink too much myself. Its just a shameful fact of British culture.

Sure is, must agree. *Tear in eye* God save the queen! Shameful? Nah! I don't see it that way. If you want to goto church, go to church, if you want to worship the devil, do so, if you like the same gender, thats cool with me, but if I want to go out drinking then why shouldn't I, and what should it matter to anyone else...

I am finding this out rather quickly... I think, I can't really remember. :p

....i am surrounded with people who drink a lot and maybe because of that i see that drinking twice a week is not "that" much.

drinking 2 or 3 beers twice a week wouldn't be "that" much but drinking 8 or 12 is definitely a binge drinking episode

I could happily drink every night if I let myself, but I try and not drink at least two nights a week (although recently I have had some sort of drink most days).

Having said that, I don't get drunk very often*, I usually just get pleasantly mellow. Drinking most nights means that stage is usually about 6 beers or most of a bottle of red, but I'd like to try and cut that back to say 4 beers and half a bottle, if only because I'm getting a bit lardy. Either way, it's a vast improvement on my student days, and I definitely drink less as each year passes. At this rate I'll be drunk on one sherry on special occasions at the age of 35. :D

*Often, this often seems to coincide with meeting fellow MR members. :p

I'm in Uni at a drinking school. I go out 3-4 nights a week and probably average 14-16 drinks a week. But I'm not a binge drinker; I pace myself and usually only get drunk on Fridays.

Probably have drinks 3 times in a typical week. Usually have wine with dinner at the "in-laws", go out and do something social (art opening, concert, friend's birthday gathering, whatever), maybe once a week I'll have a drink at home. Under most circumstances, I'll keep it down to two drinks per evening.

I rarely go to a bar with the express purpose of having more drinks, and I pay a heavier and heavier price for it the next day.

none, unless Sainsbury's have been slipping in alcohol to Innocent Smoothies and their pure orange.

A few times a year, if that. At that frequency, two drinks are more than enough.

Too much grenadine? ;)

I, as so many others, have noticed that drinking is less frequent with age...
I used to go out two or three times a week, 10+ a night, now it's more like once a week, or once every second week. Binge drinking is pretty unhealthy anyway, so from that perspective less drinking is a good thing.
A couple a day is good though, so I often have a beer or a glass of wine with a meal.

I'll have a couple of pints a couple of times a week. I don't drink excessively (I can't remember the last time I got properly drunk), and what I do drink isn't really strong stuff (between 3-5% generally). I don't touch spirits and rarely drink wine, my preferred tipple being beer – preferably of the ale variety rather than lager.

You're clearly a man of refined taste – that's one of my favourites. I've been very fortunate over the past few weeks in that most of my locals seem to have it on as a guest at the moment. :)

I only drink good champagne, and only twice a month or so.
I don't drink it to get drunk; I like the taste.

I won't have more than 2 glasses of champagne (3 if it's really delicious), 2-3x/month max (sometimes I won't drink at all for many months).

I don't drink any alcohol otherwise; doesn't taste good to me, and I don't feel I need chemical assistance to be in a good mood and have a good time. I'd much rather be the real me.

Strange the sense of "drinking is shameful" that's running through this thread. What's wrong with finding other ways to be and find yourself? I'll have a few drinks 2 or 3 nights a week, if only because it makes me feel more deeply human. I guess Lau said it better:

And what's all this espresso martini stuff? Earl Grey Marteanis are the way to go ...

If it doesn't consist of gin, vermouth, and a green olive, it's not a Martini. Period.

Apologies for the threadjack. :p

Couple or 3 beers twice, maybe 3 times a week. Maybe a couple or 3 vodka on the rocks when I go out on weekends.

Used to drink a lot more in the MR Drinking Game. You were required to drink a shot every time Mad Jew posted. That didn't last too long. :D

One or two beers a few times per week, and sometimes a binge down in Belfast where anything up to 15 pints is in order.

Saying that, I kinda enjoy going to the pub mid-week and just having one or two pints of Guinness and taking my time over them. Same at home, I'll usually have one or two, but take my time over them.

Just came back from Dublin there, took the Guinness brewery tour, haven't drank so much Guinness in one day :p Dublin is a great place to drink.
