Drinking is part of my job. I drink all day, every day. It's by far the worst part of my job, despite the drink being expensive wine.

Yer a lightweight, GET IN MAH BELLY

Well you're a pipsqueak! :D

I'm really trying to cut back on my drinking. I don't think I have a problem but I don't wanna get one. I've seen enough alcoholics in my job to show me why I shouldn't be drinking.

do u like wines from Australia? Whats your fav.?

I used to drink a lot, then I moved back to Canada and found the beer sucks...

not that standard USA beer is great, I'm talking about USA microbrews like Magic Hat, Fat Tire ect...

In Canada, there's not a lot like that. Although I do like Cut Throat Ale from BC.

I dont know how all of you function. I've been known to get pretty hyphy with the crew every once ina while. We get rowdy. But usually not the brew. We usually sip on that henny, and if were feeling thuggish, do it Old English. 40 oz to freedom.

Yeah, that's what I mainly sell - local wine. Anything from Margaret River and the Coonawarra is good. Most of the stuff we send you is embarrassingly bad wine. Please don't hold it against us.

Got an Aussie wine-induced hangover as we speak... :(

What on earth was all that about??

I was looking longingly at some lindemans today but decided 20USD was too much for a tipple.

Granted there are soem great Australian wines but, a few years ago my wife brought some local stuff from her bosses vineyards in Victoria. Ugh! Tasted better sprinkled on chips than it did in a glass.

Wiser words have never been spoken- Magic Hat is, without a doubt, my favorite beer, followed by Yuengling, and it is FINALLY starting to get big- a lot of bars around here are starting to get #9 on tap. I always buy a Magic Hat sampler pack whenver I go to a party or a family gathering, and they go over in a HUGE way. "What is this beer, the bottle is weird looking but it tastes really good!" :)

Me, personally, I don't drink that much these days. I had 3 beers today, only because I was hanging out with an uncle that was in town tonight. Haven't drank in the past 2 weeks... usually just on the weekends.

I guess I am a social drinker these days- I rarely drink during the week, heck, even on the weekends, unless there is company. I can still hold my own though- went out a few weeks ago and drank more than I have since college, didn't even get drunk, didn't have a hangover either- that was a solid night too. I was proud of myself. :)

For the most part I just don't feel like spending money on liquor these days, am trying to save money (and when I go out for drinks, watch out, cause the money flies! :)),have to get up early, and am trying to watch my weight.

Ahh... getting older. :)

Lindemans is one step above house wine. If you pay more than AU$6 (US$4.50) a bottle then you're either a tourist or you're already too drunk to care.

Are you serrious? Oh well I guess most of the memebers here are not fluent in ebonics or familliar with the bay-area hyphy movement. In english I said:
I like to drink hennesey, and occasionally an old english malt liqour beverage when I am feeling white-trash like, a 40 ounce gets me drunk, quick. Does that sound better? Haha. What

I'm not much of a beer drinker, but there is one I've had a few times that I like. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, ( I think thats right). Any of you ever try that one?

I had the (mis)fortune to live in Belgium for a while, and spent many a drunken hour in the hotel bar trying any beer they had. Tripple Leffe was a killer. Each beer had its own type of glass, and it got to be a game among the regular guests who could go through the beer menu.

Of course, now I am married and a father, all that came to an end but this talk of drinking is doing no good for my resolve. I think I might have to find a hotel for Happy Hour cocktails tomorrow evening.

Saturday morning hangover here I come!!!!

That is what you would call "chav speak" on your side of the pond.

Chav? Doesnt sound that exciting.
I am really dissappointed with the lack of ebonically lingual people here on the boards.

Thank you for the translation. I still have no idea what "hyphy" means. The BBC didn't help much, either:
"Hyphy (pronounced hi-fee) is the next big thing in the States. It's virtually Crunk but done in a West Coast style, with their own slang, dance moves, clothes and car culture. It isn't just a sound really, it's more a lifestyle."
Of course, I have no idea what "crunk" is either. Should I care?

Maybe these will help a bit:
Hyphy
Crunk

Not often, but whenever I feel like it. Sometimes it's social other times just because I want to.

For instance, I drank quite a bit at the weekend because I was at a wedding, and had a glass of wine with dinner last night. Probably won't drink again now until next Friday when I'm in Rome. Make what you will.

EDIT: And after saying all that I just had a pint after work :D What a hypocrite!!

I can't sit down and drink less than 2 pints if I go out to the bar, or some other social gathering.

However, I must cut back. The delicious beer coupled with my lack of exercise has resulted in about 20 lbs of weight gain since April.

I don't drink for the following reasons
  • I'm a bit of a ho, and I'm afraid I'll do something stupid if I get drunk.
  • It's waaaaay too expensive.
  • My mother was an alcoholic when I was growing up. I have really painful memories of that.
  • I tried a gin and tonic the other day and it tasted like what I'd expect Windex to taste like. People drink that voluntarily?!
  • I think I'd be mature enough to drink responsibly, but I have an addictive personality about some things. I'm scared that I might be more prone to alcoholism than most due to my personality and my genetics.
However, I have no problems with drinking. The vast majority of my friends drink, and I'm glad many of them do. Many of them aren't as up tight when they drink. I have no trouble with up-tightness when it comes to night life though :).

Wise words, as always, sir.

I go through phases where I drink often and phases where I drink once or twice a week. I have a similar problem; I work in music, so meetings are always in bars and I have to attend 3-4 shows a week minimum. I've always been a drinker, but I haven't been a heavy drinker for about 5 years and I've never felt like I needed a drink in any way other than stress releif. But I see so many people who are complete alcoholics, so I make a conscious effort to ask myself every time I think about getting a drink if I am going to enjoy it or if I am doing it out of habit. If there's a reason, I get it. If not, I don't.

Yep, I've had a few of those. It's quite a nice brew. :)

I like Sierra Nevada, but it's what everybody drinks here, so I generally stay away from it...gotta have some individuality. I actually prefer their seasonal Summerfest and Celebration Ale brews better than their mainstream Pale Ale.

I know what you mean. Sierra Nevada isn't something you see a lot of in these parts – I've not come across it in a pub here but one of our local supermarkets usually has a few bottles on the shelf.

It's always good to try something new and different, though. I'm quite lucky in that there are a few pubs near to where I live that are really good at getting in guest ales, so I always try to sample something new when we go out. :)
