They really should rewrite economics textbooks to include the "fanboys/girls" adjustment to demand. Apparently 8.7 million of them rush out to buy Apple's products before the "real demand" kicks in.

How is a fanboy sale different then a normal sale. Apple makes the same money and the same phone is sold.

Correct. At my IT firm, all you see is iPhones. Computer geeks love iPhones.

I would have thought the opposite. The old Apple was very much the refuge of the computer geek. The current Apple with the locked-in environment is anathema to that mindset. Geeks run Fedora (no kiddy linux Ubuntu for them). The polar opposite of that is a Mac user.

The Droid X is a completely different model than the first gen Droid. They both reside in the Droid "series". The Original Droid has a slide out keyboard & 3.7" display. The Driod X has a touchscreen keyboard & 4.3" display. The Droid 2 is a second gen version of the original @ retains the very popular keyboard.

My opinion is, if Apple would have included a slim slide out keyboard on the iPhone they would have lured thousands of BlackBerry users, and surprised the mainstream with ease of use via fast input for lengthy emails & texts. Or... Apple could have done what every other smartphone maker does and offer more than one model. One with, and one without the slide out keyboard.

At times Apple's decisions baffle me. Why they would lock themselves into just one carrier for so long, for example. Or only offer one model of iPhone. I can hear the fanboy responses already... Like "to perfect one phone" and on and on. That's a stupid excuse, since Apple has all kinds of products it focuses on. Anyway, it's just my observation.

The carrier lock-in that Apple has with AT&T I think was mostly borne out of necessity. You have to look at the state of the samrtphone market when the ipHone came out. Nobody knew how big a success it would be and the carriers were a bit leary of some of the things in the iPhone. So the deal with AT&T was what Apple had to do to get the phone out. In today's market it looks like a bad decision but at the time the iPhone was far from a sure thing and Apple was asking for things from the carriers that they had never done before.

Well I will be the first to say that..

I got rid of my iphone 4 and got the blackberry torch on launch yesterday :)

Go ahead and call me stupid everyone...but I love it so far!

If you're happy with your choice of phone, then that's all that matters. You have to go with what works best for you. Ignore the idiots who'll badmouth you and your decision.

Android is catching up with iphone 4 already

Top android devices is galaxy s sprint version, evo 4g,droid x, and nexus one is still good. :apple:

Is the Droid 2 or the Droid X supposed to be a bigger hit? I had assumed Droid X was the Droid sequel, had not heard of 2 until today.

This is what I'm talking about...Most people don't know which the effed Droid model is what. There are SO many of them. I was pointing out the fact that so many gosh damn Droid phones out there that people don't give a damn anymore. That's why sales are not off the roof. I'm not saying they won't be selling well.

Looks like the droid 2 and blackberry torch are not exactly flying off the shelves.

Droid II was only released yesterday. Why should there be a rush to get this model when the smartphone market is flooded with offerings. I have given up on getting the iPhone 4. The lines are too long at the Apple stores and the online store gives a 3 week ship date. Forget that. For my cash I want instant satisfaction. Not pay now play later crap.

When you say most people who are you talking about Apple Fanboys ??? If so who the hell cares !!?!!!

Blackberry hold outs by and large aren't in it for the keyboard. A small percentage sure, but RIM's advantage is all about the security and large scale management tools. NO other platform comes close if you need to manage thousands of phones.

The question is, how long will this last before Apple or Android beef up their security and large scale management tools. If anything, Apple will catch Blackberry in this department before Android does.

I hope Apple sticks with ONE phone and don't release a scaled down version of the iPhone 4 on another carrier. It should be the same exact phone on different carriers and not how Blackberry does with their devices (8520, 8530, etc). Its confusing, one device may have 3G, the other doesn't or etc.

 iPhone 4 may be faster than before and look nice but it is the worst one they have made as far as having problems. iPhone is really nice but so are some of those others. And yes, Android 2.2 will have flash.

But I don't have any problems with my iPhone 4. Also, I've never needed Flash. I go to web sites all the time, but never noticed that I was missing Flash. Perhaps I'm an exception to most iPhone users, but after using an EVO 4G for a few minutes I was so thankful I had my iPhone 4!

Well after 4 different IP4s (antenna dropped calls & prox. sensor issues) I picked up the new BB torch. Works very well, especially the phone part. Its not an iphone killer but it does communicate well. Love the new social feeds app..... all my stuff in one place.

I'l wait for the next iphone release.

They can't make enough of the Droid Incredible and Droid X, both are sold out. The Incredible was released in May and the supply is just now meeting demand (still says 8/16) and if you want the DroidX, you need to wait 2 more weeks.

Look at what Verizon is carrying alone:

Droid = Motorola
Droid 2 = Motorola
Droid X = Motorola

Droid Incredible = HTC which just replaced a 6 month old HTC Droid ERIS

All in the $199 category as far as pricing, which just seems ridiculous, just like AT&T sells the Bold 9000 for the Same price as the Bold 9700 and the 9700 is a much better phone for $199

Verizon doesn't even carry these in the store anymore and getting a replacement was like pulling teeth although whole family is on AT&T with iPhones so not a problem for me anymore.

Google and the phone MFG's are going to piss of their customers by introducing new phones so fast when you can not upgrade as quickly.

MFG's and Verizon needs to chill out and do a lot of testing on the current and future models, I personally do not see the Droid 2 doing well when you can get an Incredible or Droid X which IMO are better phones anyway.

RIM's future looks bleak, just like I do not think you will really see much of the Palm OS out of HP now that they bought them.

Yes, I agree. They're making Android phones to fast. Buy the "high-end" this week, then return it in less than a month to get the next "high-end" smartphone. I know this isn't exactly realistic, but for techie people who like to stay on top of things, it's a mess. However, I do like the rate of innovation/ competition. It keeps Apple on it's feet. And yes, RIM's future does look bleak. Very bleak indeed (especially when Apple starts making major in-roads in the enterprise market).

That has been my biggest problem with buying an HTC phone and that is the plethora of phones coming out. Before I purchased my iPhone 4 I was thinking of the HTC Desire, unlocking and rooting it. But then I see the right after it is available in Canada there is the HD coming out.

I appreciate that there is rapid obsolescence with everything but at least with Apple (up to now at least) you can have the latest for a year. I think this might change to 6 months. With the mass of Android phones, eg HTC, Samsung you hardly have the time to enjoy your phone and then it is "old".

No kidding. Can't say I agree with your "every 6 month" theory, though. It would be very un-Apple like. Actually, no. It will never happen.

No way are multi-billion dollar corporations gonna switch to Apple's restricted and expensive infrastructure for iPhones.
