People just need to try things out and find out what works best for their mobile lifestyle. For the life of me I don't know why iPhone users keep on bring up Android on this iPhone forum. The Android forums I've been to never bring up iOS vs. Android, it's always Android vs. Android. Why can't we here just focus on iOS and bring the Android topics to the Industry discussion forum?

This is because iPhone owners who bought their device to be 'cool' are threatened by Android. Not because of any technical reasons related to speed, access, features, etc... but because Android is threatening to replace the iPhone as the trendy phone to have.

This is why there is iHate for Android, yet almost none for Blackberry (even though RIM sells way more phones than Apple).

I don't dislike the iPhone. It isn't for me, but I don't have any problems with it. I DO have a problem with iphone owners (like my roommate) arguing with me that their iphone can do <insert feature> every time I mention an update to Android. 9 times out of 10, the iphone can't, and they are making excuses to justify their purchase to themselves.

Lots of iphone owners like that. that is why there is hate

Dude, just stop. It's not worth it. You've been posting crap lately, and frankly, I like my iPhone, hate Android, and couldn't care less about the iPhone not doing widgets, live wallpaper, etc. (although I wouldn't mind having the options). Apple will add their own features on their own time schedule - and as a consumer, I'm fine with that.

Ok. Go on liking your iPhone. I don't have any problems with that.

...but dont' tell me to stop posting because the things I say about iOS hurt your feelings. If you're that insecure, then maybe you should rethink reading the Droid thread.

You did notice his username didnt you? Apple could say they will stop letting you have MMS and SMS and the next phone and he would be fine with it.

Insecure? Enlighten me. The things you say don't hurt me. Sorry to burst your "Android rules" bubble.

I think the only insecure one is you. An Android fanboy who patrols iPhone forums.

I wasn't believing it at first, but this thread is proof positive (not even the op really but some of the responses), that some people who are unfortunate enough not to own an iPhone actually hang out and post here just to cause trouble.

Sorry pal..disagree with you. There is nothing unfortunate about not owning an iPhone. I love Apple's computers but the iphone is inferior to the Droid X. Plain and simple. Not that it's a bad thing. Rather I think each phone has its own strengths. I love the Android operating system better and so I favor the Droid X. Not every one drives a 550hp Shelby GT to work everyday but I don't call them unfortunate for not owning a Shelby. To each his own. Mind your words more carefully next time Pal. This forum is for all people.

Then why did you start a thread about the Droid?
Good question. First off, I guess I should say that I don't all-out hate Android. I like the concept, and enjoy it's competition. Without it, I'd wouldn't be too happy. I can't say that I'd ever buy one over an iPhone, but if the iPhone didn't exist (or if I couldn't get one for some reason) the Droid X (or another high-end smartphone) would be my next-in-line phone of choice. I started this thread because, like the person's comment below, not everyone on these forums owns an iPhone. If you own a Droid and Mac, where do you go? Hopefully it's starting to make a little more sense to you now. Sorry about all the confusion.

Ending Note: I'm not an "extremist" Android hater - over an iPhone, it's just not my type. ;)

hey all, i just switched from the Blackberry Storm 1 to the Droid X. What a difference a phone + OS platform makes in your everyday life. seriously.

i can't see myself going back to iPhone/BB environment after using the DX for some days. its just so much more customizable, and i LOVE how google made Android as a means to access information as quickly as possible. Last but not least, the 2.2 froyo update coming to DX in early Sept. will only make the DX faster + flash support!

Top 3 features of Android that were missing in either iOS or BlackBerry OS 5.x

1) Voice feature, text to speech, voice commands. Unbelievable how fast I can gain access to information around me just by saying what i want to search instead of typing.

2) Swype technology. This is the greatest advancement in texting in years.

3) Navigation. Hands down, the best navigation application across all mobile platforms.

1) I expect Apple will be adding these features in the near future.

2) Swype won't be happening. I already emailed Steve Jobs about it, and he said no (seriously). I do, however, believe that Apple is working on their own Swype competitor, so this issue shouldn't last long.

3) Apple has recently (in the past year) acquired two mapping companies, Placebase and Poly9, so I'm assuming Apple is already working on their own Google Maps competitor.

Conclusion: Stay on Verizon. If it's only the software you're complaining about, I wouldn't worry. The iPhone will "supposedly" come to Verizon in January, and iOS 5 will be just around the corner (at least the preview event, that is ;)).

The big feature in iOS5 will be the ability to set custom sms ringtones.

Dragon dictation is free and works great for me.

Then again even with easy dictation I hardly use it. Without an ability to edit what you've said, dictation has it's limits for texting and serious emails

I can already do that on my iPhone, I open Vlingo and straight away I can dictate SMS, email, twitter updates, Facebook updates, search the net or search maps....

I voted other because I have an iPhone. ;) Really, as long as the design of the iPhone is lightyears better than any Droid phone (no one can even argue differently) then I'm not too interested. I love large screens and smartphones, but I don't want a huge chunk of plastic in my pocket. The iPhone 4 is hands-down the best phone for that in my opinion.

Edit: Swype interests me. I haven't used it, so I can't say if I actually like it or not, but if it truly works and can handle non-words like slang and proper nouns, then it's something I'd definitely want as an option in iOS. I wouldn't consider it a deal-breaker at all, though. :p
