Man some of you are so self righteous jeez.OP if you don't like the scratches buy Apple care and return it. I'm Almost sure it wouldn't cause Apple bankruptcy:rolleyes:

There is no way I could ever be an Apple Genius after Macrumors. I would despise almost every customer...

Dropped iPhone 6 plus after only 2 days. Options?

If it's a minor scratch, put a case over it and live with it!

Apple Care only covers 2 incidents in 24 months. They also ask to inspect your phone, if you add it in the first 60 days.

This morning I dropped the new phone on concrete ground and one corner had some fairly deep scratches. The phone seems to work properly otherwise. What are my options if I don't want to live with these scratches? Can I return it? Is it possible to buy applecare+ with these dings? Any advice would be appreciated!

Are you 9? How can you ask if you can return an item you damaged?

Wow, I can't believe how people can be so dishonest and not feel convicted. :roll eyes:

I'm not talking about you, OP. I'm referring to the comments posted.

Let me tell you about my Ballistic slim case... My 6+ is protected on all 4 corners... The back... And the front with a thin layer of rubber that doesn't interfere with my usage nor does it feel bulky.

Lands on a corner? No problem. Lands on the face? It can't. It's got a raised lip to prevent that. Lands on the back? Tungsten.

Haven't dropped it yet but I'm covered if I do.

All this for the bargain price of $35.

Even better, get this case for the 6 plus. It's a heavy duty case with raised corners and a big lip for screen protection and only cost $15. It also has a slot in the back where you can put any card you have to make it a kick stand. The brand is Obliq.

Apple Care +

I rather have it, and not need it, than need it, and not have it.

And I love those posts, I go naked, and I don't need no stinkin applecare +

I have never dropped my iPhone posts.

Wrong. If they had a policy allowing replacement at any time when paying the deductible, the deductible would be priced higher than $79. I am well aware certain Geniuses go against this policy and allow you to replace anyway. But policy is policy.

IT IS NOT lol... First, the # of incidents is limited to TWO. That effectively prevents people from abusing the system, as they can't keep doing it over and over. Twice, and they're done.

Next, it's ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE coverage. Define that? Is it a teeny tiny scratch? Is it a "scuff"?

There IS no definition. It doesn't say it needs to render the phone inoperable, or that it has to be "bad enough". It exists to allow people to pay $79 (and use up an incident) and move on.

I'm not sure why the logic is so difficult to understand. Say I ran a similar policy for sunglasses: you scratch yours on the frame, and it bugs you, but I say "nope, it's not damaged ENOUGH", so you go outside, step on them, and then bring them back in. How does that accomplish anything besides being idiotic???

I completely agree it would be their policy if there were "unlimited" incidents at $79. There aren't. There are 2. You can use them however you'd like, provided you pay the $79.

It's really not a big deal

It never hurts to ask.
I dropped a 5S day three.
It was replaced new box for new box.
The apple employee said it was my lucky day.

Yep, 2 days after I bought a macbook air I dropped it and there was a huge dent in the screen. Went back to my local apple store and they replaced it with a brand new one for free.

bruinsrme and impulse462, i'm curious what you said to the Apple employee. Did you tell them that you dropped your phone/laptop and was wondering if you can replace it, or you didn't tell them you dropped it and just said you wanted to replace it? Thanks.

OP: Too late for AC+ if you go by the letter of the actual policy so you get an OOW replacement or you live with it. Put a case on it.

No, he can still get Applecare + he just can't claim it for THAT damage.

He can still get Applecare + and it should still cover him if his iPhone had a fatal accident some time after that...

You need to read AC+'s policy.

"(v) The Plan does not apply to cosmetic damage to the Covered iPhone, including but not limited to scratches and dents, that do not otherwise affect the functionality of the Covered iPhone."

"ADH (accidental damage from handling) coverage does not include (a) protection against normal wear and tear, theft, misplacement, reckless, abusive, willful or intentional conduct associated with handling and use of the Covered iPhone,"

Do you people buy a brand new car, back into a pole and then go back to the dealership and ask what are they going to do for you?

FFS is there no personal responsibility anymore? You bought a new item, you messed it up. Deal with it.

It told the apple care person I was getting out of my truck, the phone was between my legs and as I swung out of the truck gravity took over.

There was nothing I could say. It was rather evident the phone hit a very hard porous surface.

I asked if it was covered or a reduced priced I could pay.

Threads like these boggle my mind. Let me put it in terms everyone can understand.

You buy a new car and did not get insurance. You wreck it. You then ask people what your options are?

Get insurance after the fact or return it?

Really?

I don't get why people ask these questions. Lots of options are available to you BEFORE and DURING your purchase. Even AFTER you have case options. You mucked up your phone, suck it up and move on. Learn from the lesson.

I work for a major insurance company and you'd be surprised how often this occurs lol

I purchased my iPhone 6 Plus, I'm still within the 30 day return window with my carrier, AT&T or is it now 15 days? Anyway yesterday when I was getting out of my car my iPhone fell out of my left pocket and onto the concrete parking lot. most of the damage was done to the corner near the speaker. I'm still under the complementary Apple warranty, however the same day it fell I called Apple and purchased the AppleCare+ for my phone. I plan on getting a case for my phone but most places I've visited didn't have cases for the 6 Plus. After purchasing the AppleCare+ plan I went shopping online and ordered a case. I know once I put a case on it the damage will be out of sight and eventually out of mind, however it kind of bugs me that the damage is there. Why does it bug me, because it could effect any resell value for me in the future.

If cosmetic damage is not covered under the plan then it should not be a disqualifier for getting it. The warranty n my car does not cover scratches, therefore if I want to buy a new warranty they don't care that it has a big long key mark on it because they are not going to fix it anyway.

It is a little unethical to return a phone you dropped and damaged. Thats wrong on so many levels.

*smh. Clumsy people should not own phones. Should consider buying one of those drop resistant cases in the future.

I'd probably just say loser. :)

But the OP doesn't have any options (not sure how the OOW works or the terms) here and I don't think there's much he could do in terms of the wrong thing. Apple would see the damage and he can't get Applecare. He'll just have to live with it. Sounds like he had no case on it to protect it. I know these phones are made to be used without a case but it's risky.

Why can't he get AppleCare? I believe you have 60 days after you've purchased the phone to get AppleCare, but I do believe that they don't let you use it if you have just cosmetic damage.
