Ooooh, it burns so good!
I just spent $3,450 on one of these 2.5GHz beasts an hour ago with 2Gigs of RAM!! Ships in 2 weeks!! :p :p :p :p :D :D

Are they really estimating 2 weeks for BTO orders placed now? This is either criminal or they are going to start shipping in a big way soon.

I keep getting this feeling that Apple is going to forget all about me. It seems people ordering now are getting better treatment and quicker turn arounds. I was thinking of ordering another one just to see if that one would arrive sooner and cancel my original order.

Isn't it always that way?

I think they've put all their efforts towards the rev 4 ipods (since those were shipping VERY quick), because they thought the lack of a 3Ghz G5 would lower their sales.

klaus,

Very wise of you to get AppleCare...with the new diplay + liquid cpu cooler.
It pinches the wallet a little, but it's still a relatively cheap insurance policy.

Did this as well.

Thank Jesus almighty for the 4g iPOD because

1. No iMac to sell
2. Very few PowerMacs to sell
3. iPOD mini's out of stock
4. Airport Express inventory out at most distributors retailers.

Does Apple have any think available for sale. I know that tight inventory management is considered good, but at the expense of lost sales.

Even the 4G new white iPOD is out of stock at most dealers and retailers.

What is Apple doing?

Hmmm, well I see 3-5 weeks at Apple online store for a stock 2.5...

I think the most accurate description of what waiting for this computer is doing to my nervous system is that I am basically turning into the Kramer character from the Seinfeld show. :(

Apple also put a hold on my CC for my dual G2.5 with 6800 this morning. Talked to Apple, they still say 8/20 is right (pushed back from 7/something, ordered on 6/9 at 7 am EST).

If I ran my business this way...I wouldn't have a business. I don't care how great the product is, there's no excuse for not explaining the delays to Apple's customers. That'd make a huge difference to me.

Into the final 5 days for alot of us... so while we wait for our shipping confirmation in the next couple of weeks, what will you be doing with your brand new 2.5?

I'll be working on a new CGI short (lightwave, shake) and doing the odd bit of video work (FCPHD) in between so I can afford a new alu display!
I need redo all my backing tracks in digital (close to 50 songs). Then I need to practice editing and making DVD's starting with family stuff, then moving on to a video shoot for a promo DVD i'll be making. Then I need to start working on a site redesign as well as begin tracking a few more songs. Then I want to get more into writing and begin tracking songs for a solo acoustic/voice CD. Lots planned for that machine. It'll be working hard to say the least. --E

I just read over at the Apple discussion board that somebody bought a 2.5 at an Apple Store in the US ('Costa Mesa' apparently, wherever that may be), and that the store have more in stock.

If this turns out to be true I will be very disappointed, because up till now there had been discrepancies in how Apple had been dealing with this 2.5 shortage, but in my opinion they hadn't really stepped out of line. OK, some people managed to jump the queue in terms of order date -> ship date, but it never really happened on any massive scale, which in my book is forgivable as the logistics of such an operation must be a nightmare.

But with North American customers being given delays while an Apple Store receives stock looking for new customers (if this indeed turns out to be fact) then Apple will have an awful lot of explaining to do.

This has no bearing on myself or any other Europeans as far as I know, because our G5s come from Ireland and thus wouldn't have been from that batch, but none the less it is an outrage if proved to be true.

Apple may just turn around and realise that while they were off courting new custom, their core support and early adopters upped and offed.

Im really starting to regret Apple buying emagic now. It felt uneasy at the time, but I couldn't work out why. Now I'm realising... It doesn't feel nice to be reliant on a single corporation.

It's this or money-grabbing DigiDesign on a PC... Fantastic.

STATS REPORT: 8-16

23 total Education orders--of those 6 will have shipped by 8-18.

13 shipping announcements in the last 7 days.

56 to go in the next 4 days. Thats an average of 14 shipping announcements per day. That'll be exiting if that happens! Especially after today passed with ZERO shipping announcements.

Apple emailed 1 day before July 30th to let people know that ship date was going to slip.

That means if we have tomorrow and Wednesday go by with very few shipping announcements, the shipping date of 8-20 will most likely slip and we'll be notified by Thursday.

Total orders placed before Aug 1 is 173.

See you guys at tomorrow's stats report, I didn't get into the stats report business to have quiet days like this

I've posted my Cinebench 2003 (G5 optimized beta) results here.
My system is the one with the following stats:

Code:
G5 Dual, 2.5, Radeon 9800 XT, OSX 10.3.5, 353, 619, 1723,

Impressive results! - especially the 9800XT!!! - hardly much behind the 6800 - glad I didn't bother to cancel and re-order for the NVidia based on those figures. I wonder how much difference 10.3.5 would make to the 6800 though!? :)

Lost some data off the end of the database (4 people). If you entered your data in the last few hours, check the site and see if you need to enter it again. Sorry about that, i'll try and be a little more careful with my sql commands ;)

Yours ships today, have you gotten any notice yet?

Post in big letters when it does

His was pushed back to 8/20.

It really seems as if Apple intends to make this date...

Personally, I'm not worried. A hold was placed on my card this morning so I believe that Apple will make that 8/20 date, for everyone. :)
