Command & Conquer: Generals

With my old Dual 1.0 GHz "MDD" G4 (1.5GM RAM, Radeon 9000 Pro) I had to play at 1024x768 with the lowest quality settings, and even then it was jumpy at times and NEVER perfectly smooth. With my new Dual 2.5GHz G5 (2.0GB RAM, Radeon 9800XT), I can play at 1600x1200 with the highest quality settings, and its only jump occasionally on HUGE third-party maps in the late game (when there are tons of units moving around). It is buttery smooth 99% of the time!

Unreal Tournament 2004

With my old G4 I had to play at 800x600 with the lowest quality settings, and even then it was pretty slow and jerky a LOT. With my new G5, I can play at 1600x1200 with the highest quality settings for ALL options, and its been perfectly smooth on every map I've played so far (maybe 3-4, since I don't play FPS games a lot).

Older games (like Neverwinter Nights and Quake III) were usually fine on the G4, but still usually needed to be run with at least a few settings turned down. Now, as expected, I can run them at 1600x1200 with all settings maxed and there is never any sort of slowdown.

I'm going to install Return to Castle Wolfenstein tonight, but I expect even better results than UT2004 since RtCW must have much lower system requirements.

If anyone tells me how to benchmark these games, I'll try and do so in the next day or so.
If you could figure out how to turn on the frames per second so they would be displayed somewhere on the screen, then tell us around what you are getting, that would be a good way to benchmark some of the games. I know in RTCW this is the command to show the fps: type this into the console which you bring up by pressing `(the key above tab) and then type this: "cg_drawfps 1" without the "" then hit return. A number should be displayed in the top right hand corner of the screen and it will change depending on what's happening in the game.

there is an ongoing discussion regarding the displays having pink or magenta color.
My new cinema display 23 had the pink color problem when it arrived - but you only have to calibrate the colors in the monitor preferences and then it's fine - you may not use the standard color profile for the cinema displays.

Any word on whether the 6800s will be delayed?

Here's a clip from their website. Perhaps that one is delayed to free up production for the G5s?

Yeah, I noticed that the other day... I'm hoping thats what it is too.

For AAO and UT2K4, open up the console and type "stat fps." Your FPS will then be displayed in the upper right of the screen.

Hmm, sounds like he's trying to build a case to sue apple or something, for not shipping orders according to order date. I bet you can cancel an order or change it if you have the order number right? In that case, anybody would be kind of stupid to give that out.. and not even considering if it's a scam or not.

Don't think it's a scam though, cause I saw a lot of his posts here, and never came across suspicous to me

right, becuase how can you change an order that has already been received?

btw: everyone who has ordered a g5 before 7/1 please send me your order number, address, and credit card number. :p if you have a social security number, that would be helpfull to me also :D

ps: please do not send me any of that info.

Well, we'll find out this week...

For those with their orders shipping from California, Apple ships their orders from the warehouse between 3 and 5 P.M. PST.

Can someone please help me. I am about to uncover this problem with Apple. I have been working closely with Apple and I am in need of order numbers of people that have ordered their MAC after 6/30 and have received them. This is because in order to track the orders and find out the details I need to know other order numbers.

If you can help please email me privately at jocojr@hotmail.com

Thanks so much.

Joe

I do not think it is a scam, as the guy is only asking for the order numbers that have already been ordered and received after the 6/30 and I t5hink only apple could be dumb enough to cancell an order that already has been delivered. If he is thinking of sueing apple good luck to him as they are causing alot of problems for their customers.

No its not a scam. Basically all I am looking for is someone to give me their order number that HAS received it already. So there would be no way for me to scam anyone.

Let me tell you my story and why I want it.

I placed an order on 6/30 from the EDU store. I received the original 8/20 email and then then the follow up 8/2 email. However my machine was never shipped. I was told that my machine should have shipped on 8/2 and would push my machine ahead in production. However, I have NOT received my order yet and I was told last thursday it would ship this week... (Note this week ends with the 20th)

I also commented to Apple (btw I have been dealing with Sarah who is a supervisor at the apple store, I have her extension number if you would like to verify my story.) that I believe Apple is sending out orders out of order (which would indicate that they are based on people claiming they ordered after 6/30 and having received them) So she said if I can proivide her an order number of someone that ordered after mine and received it she would find out the details.

Folks, again I am not trying to scam anyone. I just want to make Apple accountable for shipping orders out of order. Thats why I only asked for order numbers that people HAVE RECEIVED already. And if you feel uncomfortable with that I can provide you with Sara's phone number and you can give her your order number directly and not me.

Please I would really like to "blow the whistle" on this whole fiasco. I am pissed that people who ordered AFTER me have received their machine with no explanation.

Thanks,
Joe

Are all continental US orders being shipped from Cali?

I don't know. I do, however, know for sure that if your order was cancelled and reordered sometime in June or early July it is shipping from Apple's warehouse in Fullerton, California. This warehouse has FedEx pick-up their shipments sometime in the mid afternoon.

I just have a comment here. The shipping in order of order rec'd must be a customer service issue and is done as a courtesy to customers as it would be the most fair way of dealing with the shortages.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's awful if it's not being done that way 100%. But I'm not sure that anyone/Apple will be held 'accountable' to a customer courtesy.

It may be that Apple IS doing this 100% to their ability, i.e. we all can see that there are clearly problems with their order database.

Actually according to Apple this is NOT done as a courtesy. They state that THEY are filling orders in the order they received and according to their records NO ONE has received orders out of order. And that they would be every interested in finding out who received them out of order.

BTW, do you notice any of the text scrolling problems that others have reported with the 9600xt on you 9800xt?

No, I don't. When scrolling, heavy gaming, and in all other situations, I see no image artifacts other unusual graphical glitches with my 9800XT (driving both a 1600x1200 LCD and a 1600x1200 CRT).

they could have split up the orderes between china and cali, then have something delay the california plant from starting up.

I'd be very interested to know how Doom3 and Knights of the Old Republic work on your machine. KoTOR should be out very very soon and it requires a 1GHz G4!

I have neither of these games, and probably won't get them, so unfortunately won't be able to try them out for you. I do plan on getting World of Warcraft, but that almost certainly won't be shipping for a while.

With all my normal stuff running (Konfabulator with 8 widgets, iTunes, Mozilla, DragThing, X Resource Graph, and about 10 other apps, with dual 1600x1200 displays), in UT2004 (build 3228, Instant Action, Capture the Flag, CTF-Face3) at 1600x1200 with ALL settings maxed, I get 80-90 fps inside and 40-70 (usually at least 50) fps outside in the upper sniper location. The 40-ish fps number was when my 3 allies and 4 enemies were all visible, fighting each other, with a nuke exploding.
