I would advise you to buy the 20" display. It's more than enough for your eyes to handle. I myself am still trying to decide if another $250 is worth it for Applecare on both my display and 2.5... I figure Apple makes quality machines and if anything is gonna break it will happen within the 1 year warranty...?

As for this thread, I believe one term says it all:

"Misey Loves Company." :p

Misery loves company...that's the phrase I was trying to think of earlier. Oh how true. ;)

Thanks for refreshing my memory.

Spoke to Apple Store (UK) today...

Ours (x3) are due here early next week (mon or tues) apparently...

That's UK, mind.

If they're dual 2.5's I very highly doubt it. We ordered 5 with the upgraded ATI video cards the day after they were released and we're still being told end of month at earliest. This is in Canada and I'd be surprised to see the UK recieve earlier shipments than North America. I think I'll be playing Doom3 before we get these machines.

Soire, are you suggesting the new aluminum 20" or the old 20" Cinema Display? The old one is $100 cheaper AND in stock. Are they basically the same except for the enclosure? Turns out the company I work for has an EPP store with Apple and I can get the new 20" from Apple for the same price as the old 20" from say, MacConnection. Of course with Apple, I have to pay sales tax.

Also, about the Applecare thing... my understanding is that the CPU and display have to be on the same order for the display to be covered by the Applecare plan. I'll have to ask Apple about this. It seems unfair. My CPU isn't even here yet, and now unexpectedly, I need a new display, but because they weren't purchased together the display won't be covered. Hopefully I can work something out with Apple for this.

There are so many things I'm waiting to do after the new 2.5 arrives. I'm so anxious. I need it now.

MORE NON RUMOR "REAL" INFO

July 22 - Here in Denver, Colorado USA, one of the 2 apple stores has been notified that they'll get their demo 2.5 in August. So it may be shipping by the 30th (like my own order says).

All in all, the rumor about them being shipped as demos to select retail stores appears to be just a rumor after all. No one here has actually sighted a dual 2.5 in a retail outlet.

According to my order, its 8 days and counting. I went for the 2 day shipping. --E

Who's Misey? Can I have her number?

I, too, am a victim of "On-or-Before-07/30/2004" syndrome.

Damn. "Misery Loves Company" That's what I get for writing at 2 am.

Misey is a fun loving gal who finds G5s to be sexy. :D

I would also advise buying the 20" Aluminum display. The $100 or so extra is worth it in terms of looks and the firewire hub. Go for the new one!

Hmmm, the free shipping is starting to look like a bad decision. Oh well, I was not doing too badly waiting until I started reading this thread and I have now started reading it quite a few times a day.

I had the same reaction. So much so that I called up Apple a couple days ago and upgraded my ground shipping to standard overnight! Yee-haw!

Do any other corps get away with this crap? Or even try it?

You know, sometimes I get really frustrated with Apple's practices of pre-announcing products with delayed shipping. But then I think to myself - you know what, I'm going to be waiting either way, at least this way I know what I'm waiting for - and at lest I have some rough idea of when it's coming.

As hard as it is now to wait for these machine's to get here, I remember how frustrating it was to wait for their announcement. Wondering what the specs would be, why they were taking so long to be announced. At least now we all know that we're getting one. Hopefully in the next few weeks. As frustrating and annoying as it is, I'd rather have an announce in June with a shipment in August, then have to wait for an announce in August with an immediate ship. (Actually if I'm choosing here, I'd rather have an announce in January with an immediate ship, but this is still Apple we're talking about here ;) )

Duff-Man says....I just sent an email to the reseller I have mine on order from (Canada) to see if they've had any recent update on arrivals of these things...hopefully I'll back from him today sometime with some news....oh yeah!

Called the apple store and cancelled my order today.
(G5 2.5,/2Gig of ram/2x 250 HD's/256meg card/ apple care/ two 20"ers) Sounds like I'm not the only one.
The rep on the phone (after trying to get me to keep the order) put me on hold and called for someone else.... he said.. "I got another cancel order". A Lady got on the phone and tried talking me out of it by saying" if you cancel now and reorder, it could take over a month to get one". I told her it will be over a month as it is. I said.. I will wait for MacMall to get them and order one overnight. She said " you wont be able to get it the way you want it through MacMall. (she is right about that) Then she said. "how about I hold your order and call you before we ship it to make sure you still want it? That way you wont lose your order." I told her "No thanks".

I am soooo mad that they can even do this crap!

I think it's funny people are canning their orders. However, I don't think it will change much. Unless a lot more people do it.
It did make me feel better. Now I can let this money burn another hole in my pocket. :0)

Why did you cancel? Are you still going to order one when they are released? BTW, you can order BTO machines from resellers - ie MacMall - they just place the order to Apple and it takes a little longer. I was originally going to place an order for a BTO with no modem at ClubMac and they said it would be no problem.

well why not

Yep and that shure is a lot of money to have in your pocket.
What are your new buying plans maybe a new car or a new house… ;)

I am sick over this. I have been waiting from the time Jobs said 3GHz in a year. I though the very least they could do is have whatever they had ready to ship. I ordered mine the second they hit the apple site. A big part of me wishes I did not have so much wrapped up in Apple softwear.
I think for the most part to have control again. I hate not being in control.

I will order again,.. not sure who from.

I too am curious as to why you cancelled. Just because of the wait or what?

I'll agree that I've considered cancelling and dropping half that amount into building a sweet AMD box to run linux on, but I just can't bring myself to do it. Besides, if for some reason I really do not like my Mac, I can eBay it for what I paid. I love their resale value. ;) But for now, I'm still sold on the Mac and will endure the wait.

Duff-Man says....they said they were not shipping until July, and with so many people still showing "on or before july 30" would it not have made more sense to at least wait until then? ....oh yeah!

I think part of it is the amount of money I'm spending here. Maybe wishing I will find a better deal for spending so much. This is my 6th Apple/ 4th and 5th display/ 6th apple care (only used one)/and Thousands in apple software. I know I'm no reseller buying ungodly amounts every week but they have never rewared me for being a "repeat offender", if you will. And then pulling crap like this just plain eats me up. By the 15th, the 17th, the 27th, on or before the 30th and now... for sure no later than the first week of Aug. All talk coming from Apple. Their word means nothing.

ahhh that feels good.. :0)

Well, although we have gotten conflicting reports about ship dates, Apple's site has said 7/30 since day one. So you can't really hold anything against them until 7/30 comes and goes. I personally will probably keel over if they actually do ship by then, but i'm holding off my anger and disapointment until next week.

As for your reward - i'm assuming your continuing purchases of apple products means - at least in part - that you enjoyed using each and every one of them. I know some of us are more inclined to stick with the brand because of what we have invested in software and all - but there are many worse brands to be stuck too! (for the money you'd save in buying a PC, you could probably replace a large portion of the software that you use.) Your reward is therefore a kick butt computer that is fun to use and great to work on. Macs are awesome, and from the sounds of it, you wouldn't be happy using any other system.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree on the wait terms.. It also blows a big hole in apple's benchmarks.. They compared everything to 3.2 Ghz Xeons.. at this time, they are at 3.6 ghz Xeons.. So.. If they annouce one, but cannot deliver until more than a month later... That's such bull... I also saw my Dual 2.5 go from 16th of july over 19th, 22th and now it is 28th.. but I don't believe it till I see it. I buy it straight from an importer (Like Ingram Micro)..

BTW, can you hold 2 grafic cards in your Mac? Because I had to order the 6800 card as a standalone. So Do I have to throw out my 9600 XT? or can I leave it. If not.. What is it worth? Can I sell it to G5 guy's with an older system? dual 1.8? or dual 2 or other??

Well when I placed my order it too said 7/30... so I called and asked what was up with that? I was told by 3 different reps "that date ment nothing".. and my order would ship no later than the 15th. So I can hold it against them.

You are right.. I do love my apples! And I will keep using them. But Apple SUCKS with taking care of their faithful.
