It sure is.

too bad my reseller is closed for a whole week, due to an annual week of festivities in their city (Gent). Looks like it's possible that my 23" is gathering dust in their depot. Oh well, think that's better than being attached to my windows pc ;)

At least it's better than having a 20" and an iBook and not being able to utilize the screen. I haven't even opened it yet, as i am considering Applecare to go with my 2.5.

What apple really had ought to offer is a coma plan. They put you into deep sleep for two months until your computer is ready. This saves you from the torture of waiting.

8/02 is sooo far away.....

Duff-Man says....lots of Duff brand beer could achieve the same effect....oh yeah!

I have prepared two desks for my new computer. In the corner so it makes an L. I think it will be quite happy here. What kind of cool accessories are people going to get for their new computers? I think I am going to buy one of those mac skinz clear covers to put instead of the metal panel so I can see the inside. I haven't decided if I want g5 etched on the side or just the pure clear. http://www.macskinz.com/cgi-bin/product.cgi?page=g5

I heard someone on here say that it is a brand called Hypnix or something like that...

9 days till 7/30...

One of the following will happen in 9 days:

1. Product will ship

2. Late into the evening on 7/30 Apple will update the status page of every buyer with a new date and send them an email apoligizing for the slippage and blame it on supply constraints.

I've got a set of creature speakers, a new silver Macmice mouse, and one gig of Crucial RAM waiting for my new G5. That, and a cable modem, and my Ambrosia game collection, Marathon and such. =) Once it actually arrives, I'll also buy an iSight, and likely an X-Arcade.

Yes, it will be soon.

Don't forget about the part where Apple offers a free 20 gig iPod because of the longer wait... :D

Be prepared

I know you have to very nice to newly born computers. The first night at a new place is really stressfull to them.

I am going to put a piece of journal under it for the first nights, just in case it leaks. ;)

If it does i will just rub its nose in it own leakage and hope it will stop doing that in the future.

2 questions

I have two questions, it would be great if you guys could answer them.

1. Do you think an apple store near me will have them in stock for me to buy when the 2.5 is released, or will I have to place an order after they are out and then wait for it?(i haven't pre-ordered online)

2. I plan on getting the radeon 9800xt with the computer instead of the 9600. Will they be able to just put in a 9800 and charge me the extra 300, or will I have to buy the 9800 for $450 and then mabey sell the 9600. If they can take care of it for me, do you think I'll have to wait longer?

I can answer these:

#1: This might work out OK. If you have a nearby Apple Retail store it might be worth it to give them a call and see if they have a "list" for them. Some stores do (though definitely not all). At the very least you can call and ask how many they are expecting and when (and call as it gets closer to the date).

#2 The 9800XT is only available as a Build-to-order option, you can only get "stock" machines at the retail stores (though they will upgrade memory on-site). If you definitely want to go Retail then your plan B (ebay) would be the way to go.

HTH (an I'm waiting for one, too ;) )

Well, Apple charged my bank account this morning, and, after calling up my bank to authorise it, the money went through. I ordered the dual 2.5GHz on the 10th June - standard specs with built-in Bluetooth. Let's hope this means it's shipping soon.... :)

thanks, JCT

could i preorder a custom system to pick up at a retail store by phone? I'm trying to avoid ordering online.
Also, could i buy a system without any graphics card at the store, and then put in the 9800xt myself?(cause i don't want to waste $300). do they sell grapichs cards at apple stores?

Again, are you sure it was CHARGED and not just a temporary authorization? The funds would disappear either way, but it would show up as processed if the funds were actually removed.

Unfortunately you can't order a custom computer and pick it up at a retail store, only online can customize and then it goes to your shipping address. I work at one and we can add RAM and change the video card but nothing else. You would have to pay for the video card that comes with the machine and then full price for the replacement. Sorry that sucks but it's the rules. To my knowledge we have not received any 2.5s in our store.

I think that is is very helpful to have this forum. A group commiserating about their waiting fro their G5 to arrive. There is comfort in knowing that your not alone. The summer is already over half over.

Well, my CC was also (temp?) charged today. I resolved the issue with it being declined, called Apple, and they put it through right there. I asked when it was due to ship and the lady said it's scheduled for mid next week. So I dunno, she could just be reading the date like the website has, or she might really know. But it gives me hope...so that I can be totally disappointed when it doesn't happen. ;) I'll let you know if the charge is just temporary or if it stays on the account (meaning I've officially been billed).

Nobody likes to suffer alone, it's great to suffer with other people here. ;) I joined these forums for this thread alone.

On a completely unrelated note, does Call of Duty use the Quake3 engine?

Duff-Man says....I think it is normal for them to check the credit cards for funds about a week (or 10 days) before shipping...I seem to recall that happening about then when I got the dual 800...this *should* be a good sign...oh yeah!

I'm going to have to agree with Duff-Man. I believe our beloved powermacs will ship sometime between the 27th and 30th.

The wait is almost over... :)

credit card probe report

Ahh yes, a probe for the appropriate amount has occured on my credit card as well. On my credit card site, this shows up as pending charges.

Hmmm, the free shipping is starting to look like a bad decision. Oh well, I was not doing too badly waiting until I started reading this thread and I have now started reading it quite a few times a day.

:)

My last apple computer was an Apple ][ with a full 48k of RAM. This wait reminds me of when I was waiting for the disk (5" floppy) to replace the cassette interface. I guess that was almost 25 years ago, WOW.

I ordered Wednesday, June 9th - the day they were announced. The temp hold on the funds in my account was attempted by Apple on Thursday, June 10th, and declined by my bank. I straightened it out on Friday, June 11th. The hold has been there ever since. I'm hoping that they really will ship early to mid-next week, but alone, I don't think the fact that Apple has requested authorization for the purchase on our cards means anything. If it did, why did Apple authorize my card almost a month and a half ago?

Yes, I'm obsessed too. I check this thread, my bank account, and my order status probably over 20 times a day. My 17" Studio Display (Behemoth, not Flat Panel) died tonight, literally. I had two 17" monitors for which I'd purchased the appropriate adapters to use with the 2.5, expecting a monitor purchase sometime later. Now it looks like I'm going to have to make yet another big purchase. I don't know if I can convince myself to buy the 20" or 23" alum. display, forgoing my dual monitor setup. What do I now? I wouldn't be surprised if my G3 B&W dies any day now too. I WANT MY G5 NOW, BEFORE THE G6 IS ANNOUNCED! Sorry about that, but I need it.
