I payed with my Apple Loan account (MBNA). I checked the status of that account this morning and it showed that my available funds - the cost of the G5 I ordered. There seems to be trouble logging in right, but I will take a closer look when I can.

I ordered a dual 2.5, minus the modem and added the bluetooth. I got the radeon 9600 xt video card. I placed my order 6-12-04

---------
Home: Dual 1.25 G4 (OS X Boot only) FW 800, 20" Plastic Apple Cinema, 15" Plastic Apple LCD. Dual 80 GB ATA. Radeon 9000, 2 GB RAM, Pioneer DVD+/-RW, Stock Combo Drive.

Alas... it was only a temp authorization, not an actual charge :(

Well I should be ordering tonight, very exciting. I think I'm gonna take out the modem too, there doesn't seem to be much of a use for that...
For people who have ordered the dual 2.5 and the geforce what are your estimated ship dates? My credit card probably won't get charged for another month at the rate things are going. Hopefully sooner though, maybe in August they will get things moving a little quicker and roll out those 6800s!

If you are ordering tonight... add 4 to 6 weeks.

What harm could it do to post a picture of a lable on the card board box for the new dual 2.5's....

I do not doubt you... however it makes NO business sense to hold inventory!~ If the product is in a box, in a store - it is ready to ship.... not like they can fix any bugs at that point - inventory is a liability/cost on the accounting books so it would not make sense to let it sit un-sellable for two+ weeks. Send a picture or get the company CFO to explain why they would sit on inventory and still claim to follow GAAP policies.

:)

Well, in US GAAP, inventory is an asset. :p I imagine that would be true everywhere else too, but like Apple, I don't believe that ROW (rest of world) actually exists. :D

My work ordered one on Monday and it has an estimated ship date of 8/30. We removed the modem, other than that its stock.

You may be better off waiting to order yours until someone like mac mall gets them in.. They order way more than they have pre-orders for. That way you can get it cheaper, no tax, and 9.99 overnight.
Unless you are ordering it with the apple student discount...

That is the time frame that is indicated on my saved dream order. My thoughts are that it might be a good idea to keep the modem. You never know when it might be needed.

I thought about removng the modem, but then, what's the point? - to save about £20!? - what if your cable/dsl goes down - with many providers you can still use a dialup number if needed, and if you wanted to send or recieve a fax on your Mac, you'll be inconvenienced without a modem! :)

I agree with that too a point, but I ultimatly decided not to get the modem. Reason = I built my pc w/o a modem two years ago, and have NEVER needed on. I have faxed maybe two things during that time and both had to have my signature + a bunch of other written crap, so I would have had to take it to Kinko's anyway.

As far as the cable going down, well, it HAS gone down but for two hours at the most. My provider doesn't have a dial-up access number (why should they, it's wastefull) and I certainly wouldn't pay anyone or use something gross like netzero just for a .01% chance I actually NEED to use the internet during a cable outage. (Again, Kinkos is down the street)

All I am saying is that not all of us would actually be inconviencienced w/o a 56k modem. But again, I do agree that SOME might need it because of unreliable service or for simple faxing.

Well, I will not be using it myself, but I decided to go with a full stock machine, to speed up my shipping date, cause the 20$ off a total price of more than 6100 euro is not that big a deal actually :)

and who knows, I might actually have to use it some day

Accounting vs finance

For Finance inventory is an asset (quarterly report)... for accounting it is a cost or liability - since revenue can't be recognized on inventory - it COST them money to make it and they can not recoup that COST until it is sold and leaves the building. So on the accounting books it remains a cost (liability) until it arrives on my door step.

:)

MBA - in process.

My G5 2.5G story

I ordered on 6/9/2004 from Apple web site.
23" display in my basement, unopened.
no action on my credit card.
shipping date shown as on or before 7/30/2004
went for standard configuration except for Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and 2G of memory (4 512M sticks).

Radio silence from Apple for quite a while.

At least you got your display!

My 23inch display is scheduled for 8/11 suped up 2.5 computer 7/30 - it would be ironic to get the "NOW shipping" product AFTER the "It may ship some day" product!

  :p :)

Activity

I had activity on my card this morning but the CC company goofed and declined it. I'm calling them at lunch to straighten it out and will call Apple to tell them it's all clear now. Apple also emailed me about it. I'm guessing it's a temp authorization before they build it and that it will be officially charged soon. Gosh I hope so. If that bumped me to the end of the line I will not be happy, but I'm holding onto hope. ;) Although that seems to be forsaken in these lands.

This is for a 2.5 through Apple Developer Connection, I forget when I ordered it...very end of June I think. My ship date has always been before or on 7/30.

Sorry for the lame joke. ;)

My 2.5 BTO was ordered 6/11 Educational with a wire transfer and is paid in full. Not sure it makes adifference but would think it would ship faster when its paid in full.

Does anybody know what the official date Apple said that the Geforce 6800s would be ready? If it is the beginning of August I would hope that those of us that ordered the dual 2.5 with the geforce will get it sometime before september. The est ship date is 4-6 weeks though....well we will see.

Duff-Man says...paying in advance like that will make no difference in your ship date...you are in queue along with everyone else....oh yeah!

Hmmm - I never heard of that before, but I will check them out - I ordered an additional gig of Kingston RAM, which I always thought was supposed to be a great brand!??

Oh yes, Kingston is an excellent brand as well - you have nothing to worry about. :)

This wait is getting unbearable. Checking this site 5 times a day if anyone has any news of his 2.5 being delivered is nerve wrecking. I need my machine for work, really bad.

To pass time, we could take pictures of the places we want to put our G5's. To show apple how ready we are, we could also paint "welcome home G5" signs over our desks.
I got a really good spot on my desk, it is very dry and well cleaned. The G5 will feel at ease to roam and play in a naturally preserved computer environement. :D

Good Idea! /me gets out the finger paints for a sign...

It's a relief to see I'm not the only one who's obsessed with the delivery date.

It's fun waiting with you guys. (But still, I'll be glad when it's done nevertheless.)
