But they SUCK with taking care of their faithful.

Give me a name of a company equally as large as Apple that does??? I mean, what brand does even KNOW you bought the X'th version of some product.. Do you think Apple knows you have bought so many Macs?? The only time when they remember something like that, you have to order 1100 Powermacs via the applestore, and then Steve brings you a visit.. That's why some people still buy products with local resellers.. They DO remember that you are a good or a pain in the *** customer.. wich is often the same :D

Problem with those giant company's, especially when they sell good stuff, like Apple,.. You can shout as loud as you can.. Nobody hears you.. They will sell stuff.. And you really did not hurt them by cancelling that order.. You just made some's G5 arrive a bit earlier.. that's all.. They do not count single numbers.. If 10 000 people would cancel.... Yes.. but I highly doubt that.

They ship how much is it..??? 880 thousand Macs (all together) in ONE Quarter.. Do you think even 1000 more or less will make the difference.. It's not fair, I know.. but it is the reality.. Look at US gov.. even if half the country is against war in Iraq.. they still do it..

Probably not Apple's fault here folks

I understand the frustration associated with not getting the G5 as soon as possible. However, it may not be Apple's fault here folks. As far as I understand the new processor is in the IBM 90nm process and IBM fab yield apparently has been in the proverbial toilet for a while.

Please see http://www.idg.com.sg/idgwww.nsf/0/FFDD83F1828657B548256ED80005A5B0

Probably does not help much here, but the supply chain on something as complicated as a G5 (or any other computer) is kind of a hard problem. When one is on the bleeding edge of technology, it can sometimes be a rocky road.

BTW, can you hold 2 grafic cards in your Mac? Because I had to order the 6800 card as a standalone. So Do I have to throw out my 9600 XT? or can I leave it. If not.. What is it worth? Can I sell it to G5 guy's with an older system? dual 1.8? or dual 2 or other??

Yes, the Mac can have 2 graphics cards, BUT (there's always a BUT) the second has to be a PCI graphics card since the Mac (and most PCs as well) only have one AGP slot. So, you'll have to sell the 9600XT. THe 9600XT should fit in any model G5.

just fyi (if you care)

this may sound as heresy to some, but my girlfriend had an excellent experience with d*** (can i say that word here?). it was her first laptop. she was having issues with the keyboard. i don't know the details, but i know they picked it up from her house and sent it back quickly, fixed, and without charge.

Hey Itsa, did Apple try to offer you anything to not cancel your order? If so then what? I will try to milk whatever I can out of Apple. :)

If they're dual 2.5's I very highly doubt it. We ordered 5 with the upgraded ATI video cards the day after they were released and we're still being told end of month at earliest. This is in Canada and I'd be surprised to see the UK recieve earlier shipments than North America. I think I'll be playing Doom3 before we get these machines.

Yes, they're 3 x (std. config) dual 2.5s -- Ordered them within an hour of them being announced.

UK machines are manufactured in Ireland so that might have something to do with it -- anyway, I'm only just relaying what AppleStore UK told me on the phone... it doesn't matter to us whether they arrive next week or not -- don't need them for another 4-5 weeks.

But I will post here as soon as they turn up at work with my 1st impressions...

Hang in there, everybody.
You don't really want to cancel your orders, do you?

Duff-Man says...hmmm...Apple *continually* finishes at or near the top in customer satisfaction....but they can't please all the people all the time.....oh yeah!

simple words of Apple wisdom...stop being impatient...keep making money with your current working mac...and buy the best mac you can WHEN IT"S AVAILABLE.

MacMall ETA

Just to add to the stats here. This afternoon, I ordered a Dual 2.5 from MacMall and the guy said they expect their first shipment to arrive on August 6th. I am certainly open to the likely possibility of them not arriving on the 6th, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. He also assured me that my machine will be in the first shipment as they ordered a large number of them, more than they presently have orders for.

I initially wanted to get the BTO Bluetooth option, but the 1GB RAM deal, no tax and $9.99 for FedEx overnight was hard to pass up so I ordered the D-Link USB Bluetooth module and called it a day.

Sorry, I am going to be impatient. Not only am I now about to buy a new 20" alum. Cinema display because one of my 17" Studio displays literally died last night (no picture at all), but since yesterday, my old G3 has lost access to it's built-in USB ports 3 times. It's kind of difficult to control the darn thing when the keyboard and mouse are deactivated simultaneously. Plus, the fan has been making very quiet but high-pitched whirring sound for probably 6 months. I too have been waiting since November of last year for the announcement of this G5 revision. I'm scared to death now that my G3 is going to crap out before I get the G5.

How are you guys getting any info out of the online Apple Store reps? I get nothing from them when I call. "We don't know anything more than you do except that when it's finally packaged at the warehouse, we'll see 'In Process' on your order." Neither Cindy (a couple weeks ago), nor Andrew (today) would even guess about when the machines will actually ship. Come on, throw me a bone! I know, it's best if they don't. I'd hate for them to tell me a date and it not happen.

Andrew did call an AppleCare rep for me and confirm that the display must be on the same order as the CPU for the AppleCare plan to cover it.

Not a thing!

That's ridiculous. Free overnight shipping or something would be the least they could do to try to keep such a big sale.

I'm sure $6,411.00 plus tax and SH is not big to them. Sad but true.

I believe no one will get a 2.5GHz until August, sorry to say.:(

Even if they start shiping on 7/30, it will take 5-7 days for FedEx ground shipping if you ordered from The Apple Store. I think the holdup has been OS 10.3.5. They won't ship until that is ready. My 2¢. :)

Apple was offering the free overnight shipping prior to WWDC. Now just wonder how long before Apple has some deals again? Maybe prior to MWSF '05.

2 day express

I thought we all got upgraded to free two day shipping - so I'm banking on Aug 2nd (4th - forgot about weekend)!

:)

Either was after 5 years this delay is not so painful... but I admit I'm very very excited!

G5 2.5 GHz - Orders vs. Inventory

I am just yet another tourtered soul with one of these on order. As I languish in tepid anticipation I can only wonder how many outstanding orders there are and what Apple's build number is. Will this be iPod mini reduxe?

On the bright side, I will be heartened if I can just read about a first user impression, a review somewhere, or even hear that at least someone received one. As it stands, no one outside of Apple has their hands on one yet. I wouldn't be surprised if Jobs, himself, has had trouble getting one.

Shipping...

I just got off the phone with Apple Sales again. I added the 20" Cinema Display to my order. While I was at it, I asked him about the shipping. He said that everything on my order is being shipped 2-day [NOT "today"]. I thought I'd pass that along since there seems to be some concern that we'll all be waiting for 5- to 7-day Ground shipping.

[EDIT] By the way, I did nothing to request any kind of special shipping. I was (at the time) prepared to accept the standard shipping, which I had expected to be ground. So I would expect, as I think someone previously mentioned, that we are all getting 2-day shipping.

You had me excited for a second there. When you said "my order is being shipped 2day" I thought you meant today! Oh well. :p

One week left!

So we're getting there, people... one week until the fabled 7/30. My order still insists that's the truth. :D So we'll see.

I thought the same thing about the "2day" reference.

I almost added a special note to that effect, because I was afraid someone would think that. I hope you're ok. We're all here agonizing over the wait.

Well I'm fine, doesn't matter for me anyways, my isn't scheduled to ship until 9/3 with the geforce 6800. I hope it's worth the wait.

I, for one, don't know what i will do with my time when this computer finally arrives. I've spent almost everyday since November scouring these rumor boards for first a release, and now a ship date.

I'm afraid my life will be pretty empty...
