Thanks,

I added the "a". I too caught that when I looked at the site.

Good luck while waiting. It WILL be worth it!

amazing setup, the pic from your desk in the hotel room looks just like mine! Only difference is, I don't have my mac yet, and the display is waiting for it in the warehouse

the last pic's link is dead, you missed an 'a' in images, nice home setup!!!

Hello...

I ordered my G5 on 6/22/04, and received the 7/30, 8/20, and 8/30 estimated shipping dates. After receiving my "shipment delayed" email on 8/20, I called about my order and received $100 off the purchase price and free "expedited" shipping. Then later in the evening (8/20) I received an email saying my computer had shipped. (thank god)

Does anyone know how to go about getting fedex not to deliver to my home, and leave the computer at the distribution center for me to pick it up myself? It's doubtful I'll be around the house when the fedex truck delivers my baby.

beauchamp, you got the best of both worlds

$100 off, free express shipping, and it got shipped the same day :D

I posted earlier of my surprised success in purchasing a new stock dual 2.5 G5 at the Apple retail store in Minneapolis. I was on the list and waiting for a 9-17 shipping date, but I called to the Mall of America store and put my name on their waiting list. Peter Hsu called me the next day (Thursday) and told me he had one for me.

The call to Peter saved me one month of waiting time.

Here are some photos from the store, my hotel room where I ran the Apple hardware test, and from my studio where the G5 now runs a 20-inch and a 23-inch monitor. Lots of room for photoshop images, tools and the file browser.

The G5 and the 23-inch monitor become part of Wilderness Studio

There are 3 more G4 Macs and an Epson 9600 printer around the corner, but this is the main work station.

You have a really great setup for your G5. Looks like a very efficient work space. How do you like using the Lacie external drives? Bob Levitus, Dr. Mac recommended the OWC Mercury to me. Noticed the OWC is highly rated. I know that it's the product that the Apple Store carries, so that must mean something. That definitely are designed to complement the G5.

Apple's on the Move Again

A little hope for those still waiting...

I ordered from Apple Edu on 7/12 and had a ships "on or before" date of 7/30. Then I got bumped to 8/20, and was a pretty good sport about it, all things considered. Then, yesterday, I got bumped to 8/30, which was a trial to be certain, but I maintained my stoic demeanor.

Ten minutes ago, I received my shipping notification. So, at least for me, Apple didn't miss the 8/20 ship date by much. My advice to those still waiting would be to return the "Yes, I'll still take the d@mn machine" email as quickly as possible, because I expect they'll try to get a good group of machines out today.

Incidentally, for those who want to avoid all the pain endured by the members of this forum: as of this morning, the Apple store at Lenox (Atlanta) had a couple of 2.5s in stock...

I now firmly believe that there is hope for all of us, even Frinky (invaLPsion)...

Great deal. I've heard of one person that got $200 off. When he spoke to the representative said that he wanted to cancel. Then she offered $100. Still wanted to cancel and got the $200. The expedited shipping is a great feature.

With the tracking number you can call the Fed-Ex distribution center. Then you can have them hold your baby at the center. Will look forward to pictures.

The 320BG laCie Firewire 800 drives are great. I am happy with their read/write speeds and use them for all my external image storage. I think that their aluminum cases match the G5 case very well. I will be adding a few more soon. It is hard to believe how soon a terabyte of storage can fill up with digital images, especially when the images are 667MB each.

I just finished my time tests with Photoshop CS on the 2.5GHz G5 and a comparison with the dual 1.42GHz G4 that I replaced (or at leasted moved to a lesser positon). I'll post them under a new topic here on the mac Rumor forum site. The bottom line is that the purchase was worth the cost!

Apple distribution is obviously workin' overtime, well, they should be.

Great to hear some folks with a 8/30 date, had their machines shipped on 8/20 and 8/21, apparently 8/30 is a 'safe' date to meet.

Did somebody get one from a local reseller yet? (no Apple Store)?
It would shed some light at the way they treat orders from shops. I hope my reseller gets some stock quickly, i'm n° 1 at his list

MY FINAL STATS POST: 8-21 "Damage Report"

If anyone wants to take over maintaining the spreadsheet Contact me via the email in my sig. Just take out the spaces and replace "at" with @.

I'll repost the top phrase intermittently on the forum so everyone knows.

I'm retiring from maintaining the spreadsheet because 30 minutes after learning of the 8-20 ship date slip, I had a 2.5 in the house from a local store. Like I said before.... This is what I call shipping "on or before" Aug 20.
fedexbaby.jpg

"If you want something done right --- Do it yourself." I guess that's why I'm a solo act for a living.

STATS REPORT:
The damage was extensive yesterday requiring a full reworking of the the "shipping pie" and stats tracking. I was too tired (performance and then partying with family visiting) to re-visit the doomed spreadsheet as I promised yesterday. However, being a man of my word I have yet to open my G5 box, and I've been working all day updating the spreadsheet so someone can take it over.

DAMAGE REPORT:
• at least 19 people reported their 8-20 shipping date slipping

• Of those, 4 were able to escape the "shadow of doom" to grab a 2.5 at a local apple store. (see this post). 1 person even drove 300 miles (via a porsche) to get one.

• 3 others escaped the shadow of the 8-20 slippage because, even though they received the 8-30 email, theirs shipped anyway.

• 31 "Aug 20" orders who's fate is unknown.

• 3 more 6800 machines get a ship slip notice

• And 4 other orders that didn't receive the doomed email actually shipped.

As bad as the carnage has been, please remember those less fortunate than you:

Two of the most unfortunate on the wait list are INVALPSION & USAEE:
They ordered 6-9, & 6-10 (that makes Inva..the most unfortunate :( )
They are not ADC orders
They are not 6800 orders
And STILL they've had to endure TWO ship dates slipping.
Give them some encouragement gang.

From the info I have THE DOG COW with a 7-1 order is out till SEPT 27. Other 9600 and ADC orders (or worse yet BOTH) may share the same fate his him.

There is always a "diamond in the rough"......

An unfortunate 6-9 ADC order previously "hung out to dry".....DESERT DOG has a shipping confirmation on his order.

As always, congratulations to all who have received.

This is it for me gang -- No more spreadsheet updates. I'm "passing the torch" :) To anyone who would like to carry the flame onward from here. Please email me ( in sig. below). And continue to report the drama....the thrill of shipment.......the agony of slippage......and the delightful guilt of just snagging one @ the local store & canceling the pre-order.

I'll be visiting and posting once in a while with some pix and a few questions about setup etc.... I want to pass out a hearty thank you to those who've supported my efforts--PeterD11, Kneecap, WDLove, Cal6n, Rev.Emilio, Robin Hood and anyone else who passed a good word.

I'll still be around, but will say goodbye when I do my last post.

My bet is that you wouldn't be able to put it in there. Since the card is OEM, it will only be compatible with other G5s...

In addition, the card is AGP 8X. Your computer only has PCI slots.

I know it doesn't have AGP8x but I do know it has a slot with a video capture card in it... but looking at the official specs that appears to be something else.

Yeah I guess it would just be a waste...

solo-act, thx for maintaining the spreadsheet for so long, it was the best!

Can't help you with taking over, not much time to spare, lost a lot of time posting on this thread the past few weeks :)

Great, thanks. I ordered four to complement the four I already ordered from the States (at what I thought was an amazing savings given the exchange rate and all). I do hope they play well with 'others' ;)

I've already got 4 of these and 4 x 512s from crucial. They love it!

'bout to unbox

Checking the "pedigree".

Machine assembled in China, shipped from Elk Grove Apple, but Fedex tracking shows picked up in Fullertone, Ca and shipping to Apple Store in Cherry Creek mall Denver. It was shipped on 8-19 to arrive here. Box unopened and not beat up from shipping.

Congrats DWKlink! Let's hope Apple catches up with their backorder for the entire world soon!

I hope for your sake, as well as everyone else's that they do too. It seems like things are starting to go a little smoother and that production seems to be ramping up. I have a good feeling that it won't be much longer for the rest of you.

I'll cross my fingers for you too klaus - you've been around here with the rest of us for quite some time - along with invaLPsion. You guys deserve your machines soon - hang in there.

"Dear Apple Customer,

I ordered mine 7/7/04 through the online education store. looks like i'll have to tack on a few more days of waiting.

This f*cking sucks. No emails and last on the f*cking list.

Dude, I so feel your pain. No emails, no nuthin'. Ordered ADC, nearly stock (no special vid cad), 6-25. All I know thus far is that my machine is being made (supposedly) but might be delayed??? for an unknown amount of time? And my CC has a temp charge from Apple. I guess that's good news but I'm not holding my breath. We're still hangin' in there.

Do I get an award?

I have just been declared by Solo-Act to be "the most unlucky of all!" Wooo!!!!!

Do I win something, like a powermac G5? Sadly, no. :D

Thanks for mentioning me in your posts, guys. :)

I'm sad. You ordered the same day as me and we both went through Edu.
:(

*Sigh*

Oh well. I have an estimated ship date of 9/27 on my Status page!! w00t.

(I ordered the 6800 as well, which is why I've been bumped... Supposedly I'll get a G5 with a 9600 by 9/3......)

Finally!!!

It has shipped!!!

Dear Apple Customer,

The following products shipped on 08/21/2004. Transit time will
depend upon whether you have chosen standard or premium freight
options. If your order is shipping standard freight, it should arrive

Don't forget me. I ordered at 6:15AM PST on June 9. My order is EDU and I stuck with the 9600XT and apparently still no hope of shipping! :(

Hey.. good to hear that your computer has finally shipped. Did you reply their email that you still want them to ship your computer? Or would they still ship the computer without the email. I have yet to reply their email because I'm actually thinking of cancelling my order. It would be nice if they could ship it today thou. All I want is to have my computer a few days before university starts. :(

WOO-HOO...I got a shipping notification moments ago.

I was one of the folks who got the dreaded 8/30 notice yesterday, and yet it shipped today.

The best part is Apple gave me a discount yesterday for the delay, so it's a total win-win. A discount for only one day of additional delay.

I really couldn't be happier.

(Now, I will worry for a week about build quality. But such is life as an Apple early adopter.)

:)
