Hey gang, typing on the new 2.5!!!

Just thought I'd say Hi. I'm going to go looking for that hardware tester program. Didn't xfer any files because I'll be putting a 10k raptor in here just for system stuff and put my personal stuff on the stock 160, then run all the heavy business multimedia on a raid.

I'll be back if I can't find the tester program here. --E

Thanks for the hard work!

This is it for me gang -- No more spreadsheet updates. I'm "passing the torch" :) To anyone who would like to carry the flame onward from here. Please email me ( in sig. below). And continue to report the drama....the thrill of shipment.......the agony of slippage......and the delightful guilt of just snagging one @ the local store & canceling the pre-order.

I'll be visiting and posting once in a while with some pix and a few questions about setup etc.... I want to pass out a hearty thank you to those who've supported my efforts--PeterD11, Kneecap, WDLove, Cal6n, Rev.Emilio, Robin Hood and anyone else who passed a good word.

I'll still be around, but will say goodbye when I do my last post.

Just wanted you to know that we appreicated all your efforts to keep us informed. My machine is due to ship on Monday. Have the RAM, UPS and 23" ready to go!

Good Luck guys! :)

I went and picked mine up at school today. I'm staying at my girlfriend's house, so I don't get to play with it til tomorrow. :(

I was so nervous getting it. All this waiting.. it was driving me nuts.

I'm a happy camper now :)

Duff-Man says....while I am getting excited about mine arriving on mon/tues, I am also glad that I have the weekend to prepare properly too - cleaning out old stuff I don't need before doing final backups, organizing all the documents I had been tossing in the "misc." folder (doesn't everybody have one of those?)...then when it finally arrives I'll *really* be ready to jusy plug it in and transfer away.....oh yeah!

UPS

Can anyone recommend a good UPS for this fine piece of machinery? Something good but reasonable.

thanks

It's terrific that some are having theirs ship today!

Hopefully I'll get my notice on Monday. :)

Regardless, I'm calling Apple again today for another $100 discount. HA! :D

Here is a great deal. It is a 1200va UPS at half price!

It is easy to lose a post in this thread so here is the quote from it. From what I hear the coupon code still works!

I do not know if the half price coupon is still valid but I got it for $80 plus shipping!

Try coupon 12345 on checkout.

Roger, Thanks a lot. I just ordered it. "Price is not guaranteed till shipping" (whatever that crap means) but its orderd. Aside from only supporting AutoShutdown on PCs, its perfect for the price.

Thanks dude!

2.5 G5 512K RAM and other shorts

One thing I can say. If you don't have more that the standard 512K RAM, the fans kick up big time. It took me a couple of days before Crucial delivered my extra 2 x 512K. I was wondering what was up with all the fan revs! Looking at Memory monitor it shows my 2.5 with moderate stress was eating about 750K. Now that the RAM is in, things are quite sublime.

If you aren't going to put 8GB in, its also an advantage having those extra RAM slots so that you can put 512K pairs in and save money. Apple only puts in those 2 x 256 (that's 2 slots). They are cheap aren't they?

One last thing. My brother bought an iMac 17". They throw in all this extra stuff, World book encyclopedia, a few blank CD-R's, lot's of other software, Appleworks, etc, etc. All you get with is top of the line $3K machine is 3 CDROMS that are quite bare bones.

Other than all that, this machine is awesome. :D

I have two things to day...

1. You knew about these shortcomings before you ordered, so don't complain after you have received it.

2. Be happy that you have it.

I noticed the same thing - when I bought my 17" iMac it came with all sorts of goodies which I use on a regular basis (i.e. SoundStudio). I was quite surprised when my friend's 2.0 GHz G5 PM didn't come with as much as I would have thought...

Ah well, you have your nice new machine so no need to complain, right? ;)

Yeah, thats what it said when I ordered mine too. It works great and for $80 you can't beat it.

It's still awesome....

I guess my main point was about the RAM / performance thing but I somehow got into a mini-rant about how cheap-ass Apple can be at times.

I actually, expected to get the goodies my brother got with hos iMac. That's part of the positive Apple experience. I suppose one should read "What's in the box or have x-ray specs. I still would have bought it. That's the bottom line, right?

I can understand I would get no sympathy from those still waiting. I do feel your pain, I was there too. The waiting sucks. Once you "do" get yours you may start noticing these little things like I do. Hey, its still $3K+++!

Don't get me wrong. I am a happy camper......... and you will be too :D

Let them speak...please

Whoa. . . .it was good to hear from this person - it will help me equip my new 2.5 in the most effective way. BTW - why wouldn't Apple at least equip the 2.5 with standard 512 sticks? Anything less in a machine of this caliber is most confusing, especially after reading all of the marketing copy on their website with regard to SPEED, FAST, with qualifiers such as MOST, IS, and DESKTOP.

And finally: I sense a tinge of disappointment with comment no. 2 in terms of shipping schedules. Yes, this may be a big deal for those who earn a living with these computers, but - it would appear to me that this has more to do with IBM's difficulties with chip yields (such is the case with bleeding-edge technology); I'm sure Apple would love to alleviate this problem as soon as possible. Lord knows this makes it tough for Apple to sell/ship as many of these computers as possible, and certainly doesn't help with Mr. Job's recovery from surgery...

Thanks for listening/reading.

Have a nice day.

I think you mean 512MB not 512K:eek:. We've been using MB for years now!

Ram Banks in the G5

Apple must install their ram in matched pairs. So, they couldn't just put a 512 stick in a G5, it would have to have a partner. At least their 512 isn't 128 by 4.

But still...

Yes, yes, yes.

But again - with all the major hype in a machine designed for big-time tasks such as video/photoshop/rendering/encoding...why are we even dealing with 128s in the first place?

Just wondering out loud...

Back on topic: when'ja gettin' yers?

Apple Store Stocked with 2.5

I am the Proud Owner of the very FIRST sale of a Liquid Cooled 2.5 this morning from the Apple Store in Boca Raton. All 2.5's were sold out in One hour.

I TOTALLY agree with you 100% - Bare Bones for $3,000 - I was shocked to see very little extra goodies. Also 512 SUCKS!! My fans race constantly - dont have the money to but extra ram - I agree with you totally! Also, NOT trying to freak anyone out - but my New 2.5 G5 has locked up and froze on me twice. - NOT COOL AT ALL.

Have you run apple's hardware test? You should make sure that your RAM/CPUs are ok.

EDIT: Recursive - great minds think alike!

Hey.. good to hear that your computer has finally shipped. Did you reply their email that you still want them to ship your computer? Or would they still ship the computer without the email. I have yet to reply their email because I'm actually thinking of cancelling my order. It would be nice if they could ship it today thou. All I want is to have my computer a few days before university starts. :(

I did reply, not by email though. I called it in, and talked to a rep. The rep told me that My G5 was in the build process. She did not kow how close it was to shipping though.

Shipped

Yayz0rs!! June 25th ADC order shipped today (earlier today) !!! Status changed on the web and got an email with a tracking number! Woo hoo!! It's coming from CA, 2-day (free promotional thing) and will be here Tuesday! I can't wait! Off to order some RAM and games. I'll keep checking back, hang in there guys.

BTW, my order was bumped from 8-20 to 9-27! So clearly the bump doesn't necessarily mean a long delay this time.

:D :D :D :D :D
