First Impression
Got the G5 yesterday.
First Impressions , oh my god ...... This thing is so smooth.
Ran the hardware test everything is A okay. So far everything has been pretty much flawless.
Had a couple of problems with a couple of applications after running the setup assistant :-
1. Needed to reinstall Norton AV since Live update didn't work
2. Stuff it expander did work , kept crashing every time I upacked something , install v8 and now everything is fine
3. IntelliJ was not transfered by setup assistant.
Apart from that , had no problems with MS Office v10 or Office 2004 which was a big suprise. Thought MS wonderful
registration process would mean I would need to re-register , not a bit of it .
iPod works flawlessly with the new machine.
One thing I did note. When I fired up the machine for the first time , I didn't immiediately run the setup assistant. I registered the machine under my name ( my wife is the registered owner of our G4 ). When I subsequently ran the setup assistant after restarting the machine it asked me to register the mac again ( and gave me a choice of me or my wife to register as the owner ) stuck to me though.
Other than the above , everything has lived upto expectations.
Also , I have my iTunes library on separate firewire drive , after running setup assistant I plugged the fire drive into the back of the G5 and hey presto iTunes picked up the library quite happily.
The PC world could definately learn a thing or two from this.
