whine, grumble, moan
being a student and subject to high apartment turnover, i ordered my computer in june secure in the knowledge that my shipping address would be just fine. lo, it is no longer the case. as a result of and after much pleading...the apple store operator tried valiently to help me out. the best they can do is when my g5 arrives in alaska, it will be rerouted to sacramento to apple where they will readdress it. it may add as much as 2 weeks more to the order. fed ex can normally change addresses for you if you have the tracking number, but apple is a client that does not allow for fed ex to recieve any address change not from apple, so there you have it. the apple operator joined me in a moment of false hope that maybe it won't really take as long as 2 weeks since i am in california too. oh man. i just hope when i get it that there are no problems.

Well, it is off to CompUSA to get a 6pin to 6pin firewire cable to transfer my data from my DP450 G4.

I have my cancelled G5 with 6800 order
I have a open G5 with 9600 order for 9/30
I have a open 6800 standalone order for 10/29
The dates, according to ADC are no real and will be updated later to meet the 9/3 and 9/13 dates.

I have seen posts from some of you using the Hardware Monitor software. Where did you get that from? It's not on the Apple site (or maybe I am using the wrong name).

Don't Despair...
It's almost over everybody. The 2.5 is worth waiting for. I love my setup and I love this computer. The multitasking is INSANE!

Fans running
For those that are experiencing more fan activity - what is the room temperature?
Warmer rooms will mean that the fans run more often. These beasts seem more sensitive than others in my experience.
I left the air conditioner off the other day when I was out and when I came back my office was hot! The rise in room temp caused the fans to kick in (which increased the room temp even more). By the time I got back they were running steadily at a low-medium speed.

Well, I set-up my new Mac tonight--or got about half way done--and let me just say these new Macs are well worth the wait.

Hi. I was the original poster.
What with my being out for the weekend and my telephone contact number being at my sister's place, I only just heard that my order was cancelled too. I phoned Cancom and was given the same polite waffle. My guess is that someone within the company hacked the memory onto their clearance items in order to get a bargain but when too many people ordered, the sales department noticed and pulled the plug rather than lose all that money! I can understand it but I doubt I'll order from them again!

Finally got my shipping notice last night!! FedEx has yet to pick it up but this is the first bit of good news since I ordered 6/30.
Perhaps that IS the light at the end of the tunnel that I see??
I will remain cautiously optimistic till I have my babee in my hands...

I think they are catching up on their june backorders, except from some poor souls like brykken, etc. And the ones who originally had a 6800 in them.
Now that only leaves a little dust in the wind for the persons who ordered through a reseller..clearly the one party who has been put aside by Apple in order queue..
god apple, ship some to resellers in europe, the wait is killing me, I can't stand three more weeks (according to apple benelux)
I think they are catching up on their june backorders, except from some poor souls like brykken, etc. And the ones who originally had a 6800 in them.
Now that only leaves a little dust in the wind for the persons who ordered through a reseller..clearly the one party who has been put aside by Apple in order queue..

UK Delivery
We just had a phone call from Apple Store UK to say that our 30" screens are ready for delivery (anybody got one yet?).
But she did not know when the graphics cards will be available, but our whole order should be ready for delivery on/before 13/09. (2x30" screens, 1x9800 graphics card, 1x2.5ghz G5 - ordered 29/06)
She then offered £150 off next purchase, which is a shame because we have just ordered 2 40gb ipods plus bits which have just been sent in the last 24 hours, and hopefully will be before the end of tomorrow as I am off to lay on beach in cyprus for a week

Hi, I just received a voice mail (not email yet) that my machine has slipped another 10 days to the 13th of September -- and as a gesture of goodwill, they are giving me £150 towards a future purchase or off the current order.
