I have the Computer in the Same exact Spot as the Dual 2gHz. The Fan Revs up for like 5 Seconds then Slows Down to normal. It Periodically Revs up for No Reason as well. It isn't making any rubbing noises its just simply reving up. I bought More Ram Thinking that the Processor was overworking due to the Lack of Ram (512 megs stock) but that didn't Make a Dif. (Got 3.5 Gigs of Ram in there now)

Also Speaking of Ram, I don't Like the Fact that these Places try to Sell you the Same PC Chips of Ram for Higher Prices just cause its going In a Mac. I just Picked up 2 1 Gig Modules for $168 each and 2 512 Meg Modules for $89 each at Coast 2 Coast Memory and they were trying to sell me Mac Ram for $280 for 1 gig. I''ve been buying PC Ram all my Life for Macs and never had issues. So Just for Argument Sake if Anyone needs to buy ram for your Mac G5 go to coast 2 Coast and Order there regular PC-3200 DDR Ram and you will be fine (I tested it already).

Nah there are enough june pre orders hanging around. plus a new list would mean we'd never reach 4,000 posts

edit: fixed clever miss-typings that made the post sound irish :p

It's here...still can't believe it myself...

Hi all.

I haven't posted much in the past, but followed this thread from the very beginning.
Just wanted you guys know that my machine just arrived.
Didn't have any possibility to fire it up so far, since I'm still in the office.
I can barely wait to get home.

So it seems there's hope for the German buyers, too. ;)

Cheers,
WOA

P.S.
Does anyone know what's wrong with http://powermacs.plasticated.com?
I can't update my status due to an PHP error saying "Too much connections."

I got tired of waiting on Apple ("It's being built." "It will ship any day now.") and after checking with an online reseller to see if they *really* had stock and would ship the same day, I cancelled my Apple order and placed an order for stock 2.5 with the reseller. This was Monday. The computer arrived around 1pm on Tuesday.

What tipped me over the edge, other than the endless wait that was almost certainly nearly over?

The online seller: 1-had them in stock 2-was recommended in a forum 3-was selling the computer AND applecare for $3100. 4-I decided that I wanted the ATI 9800 Pro SE card and the seller matched a lower price (though it *is* backordered -- even ATI doesn't have them in stock). The SE does NOT block a PCI slot, and is 256 vram, and is only marginally slower than the XT. Also, I was planning to buy Motion, and ATI is offering a $50. rebate for purchases of Motion AND a Radeon Pro card (thru 12/04). 5-I decided I wanted a modem after all for faxing (my CTO had no modem) 6-the reseller had refurb Airport Extreme cards for sale

So there it all is. I had to pay for overnight shipping, but the other things (saving $200. on AppleCare! not blocking a PCI slot! shipping immediately!) offset that. Also, no sales tax... I will have to pay sales tax eventually on my taxes, but I'm deferring it for a few months, and it will be a little less, since the overall bill is lower. I also lost built in BT, but eh.

Oh, I got my 2GB of Transinternational RAM and have installed and tested and so far so good. The machine is an August build, so I'm not in that suspect July build window. All in all, I'm happy. It's fast. It's sleek. It's pretty. System migration rocks. The pull-out fan assembly with no cables rocks.

Wow! I've been waiting since June '03 for this and it's here!

Hang in there through the frustration y'all, I'd say it's worth it. Oh and I'm sure the 6800 in one of these machines is going to be amazing.

I'll probably sell my 9600XT to someone who wants to upgrade from a low end nVidia...

Good luck everybody! Here's hoping everyone's ship dates get beaten.

hi artcat, congrats on your new computer. What reseller did you order it from? Did you happen to know how many he had in stock?

thx!

Did they mention specifically the delay was because of the 6800?

They didn't say exactly what part was causing the delay but they did confirm it was a problem with the G5 CTO. I'm betting it's the 6800, as other non 6800 G5s are shipping....but only Apple knows the truth. Personally, I don't understand what difference it makes if 'they' tell us what the problem is.

I did try and wangle a 20GB iPOD but they said they couldn't authorise it but did put a note against my order. They stated that after delivery I could call to discuss further compensation for the delay...... yeah like they are ever going to agree to anything more than that offered now....although I will try.

apparently, only us customers got the 9600xt deal with their 6800 order, or did some of you get that option as well?

Anyway, i'd go for the £150 rebate if I had the change, 13th of september is only a good 2 weeks away

I sent a mail asking for the opportunity to take a 'lesser' card in the interim, but they ignored it. It is not an option over here apparently.

I am actually going to the Apple Expo in Paris next week so who knows? the new iMac may be so cool that I can cancel this fiasco-in-the-making and go home with a new toy.

NB: I doubt it though ;)

Hi klaus, thanks :)

if you private message me with your email, I'll send it to you (or anyone). I don't want to be responsible for deluging them with orders.

ps I'm on a hot deadline, so my forum checking will be sporadic. I'm going to ask you to not post their name directly either. Dunno if I'm being over protective, but there it is.

pps I've just enable PM notification, etc.

Thanks for G5 advice

I have been monitoring this thread for a while and wanted to thank you all for the advice and information you have given. I ordered my G5 on 18 Aug, but after the 23" monitor arrived, called my local Apple store to see if any were in stock. Amazingly, they had one, so I canceled my order and picked it up. Cost a few bucks more, but was able to get the apple care transferred to both CTO and monitor by bringing in serial number.
The system is very sweet and I am a happy apple convert from the PC world this year. As for fan noise, this machine is extremely quiet. I have 2.5 Gig RAM. I hear the fans come up occasionally, but mainly my Sony Viao is louder than the G5 under my desk. Only during the hardware test did it make a lot of noise, and that was the DVD drive.

artcat2, thx, but it doesn't really matter anymore what the exact name is, if it's an independent reseller, then I already know enough... hmmm, basically I don't know anything, but it helps me that reseller also got some shipments from apple, and not only official apple stores. Now if only some european resellers get some.. you're not from europe are you? :D

To all the aussies waiting, i rang my reseller (NextByte) today and they said they think they are shipping, and i should ring tomorow at midday to get an update.

Try your resellers see what they say.

Good news Apple Centre Newcastle Australia despatched mine today. Not in a FedEx truck but.

Does anybody know if these are considered 'resellers' in the eye of Apple, or are they in the same line as the official Apple Stores

Add Me To The Shipped List!

Wow, I actually got a shipped notice. Very cool. If Brykken hasn't yet, that's EFFING WRONG. Seriously, man, I really think something is wrong with your order, especially if your ship date is still sitting at 8/20/04. I would call the department that handles order changes, and just ask politely if you could get an order status update. Play dumb, like you've never called/haven't looked online. They should realize the ridiculousness of the situation and try to fix it... it seems like your order got lost in a black hole.

I'm pretty psyched for myself though, I must say! I'm having it shipped to the New Hampshire Apple Store so I can avoid the sales tax, so I won't get to play wait-for-the-fedex-guy (well, I guess I could go there and wait outside their loading dock...)

Anyway, it seems that in my case, anyway, things were shipped in a fair order, so I guess there isn't too much for me to be pissed about. I'm getting it before Sept., so I'm fairing better than I would have last year. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Klaus In this case, as I understand it, they are an independent reseller with 4 stores. Apple Centre is used in different cites in Australia but owned by other retailers. Not sure though if apple gives these store a different status to use the name. As far as I know apple does not own stores in Australia .Don't shoot me if I'm wrong

Mine always showed an ESD of 8/6/04 until it finally shipped on 8/20/04, so that doesn't mean anything at all. I was also told by various reps at the Apple store that the ESD isn't always that acurate it should be.
Anyway I got that "famous" delay email from Apple stating that my machine would ship on or before 8/27/04.
As posted above it arrived today. So there's hope for you guys who are still eargerly waiting for their G5s to show up. :)

WOA

OK, apparantly Apple have shipped some units to my UK Reseller and they should be here next week. Good news but I'll believe it when I see it.

Got my shipping notice at 11:30 PM eastern last night (wednesday). Three days short of being two months since I placed the order. Ordered 6/28 1 gig ram, 160 gig HD, AE, 9600xt. Now I just have to wait for it to ground ship from california to connecticut... fun.

It is always good news when Apple exceeds epectations. Can't relly trust the ESD, must wait for an E.Mail. Enjoy and please try to take pictures.

Hi klaus, no this is a N. America reseller (Authorized Apple, BTW)

SHIPPED !!!!!

at last. its on its way ( apparently )

i ordered on 17/7/2004, had an estimated shipping date of on or before 30/08/2004

so it looks like it should arrive about the time they said it would.

it is being shipped via TNT express, via Holland. I cant seem to get the tracking numbers to work. Any ideas ?

:)

FAO: jason3142, grebo - any UK buyers offered £150 rebate

Would you mind providing me with some kind of proof/order numbers/just some kind of details of the orders or something so that I can forward to my reseller, who will try and get this rebate implemeted for his customers too - have a heart guys, us who bought via resellers aren't getting a grain of anything, info, rebates, nothing... :/

Either PM me, or email me with what you can - I promise that wheatever you do provide will only be forwarded to the reseller to stick back in the face of Apple to say 'Oi! - we want that too!' :)
