ordered on the 17th July. (G5 2.5 + 23" display + apple care) it is in shipping at the moment, so who knows when it will actually arrive.

don't worry stuBCN75, it has nothing to do with you, just the fact that you ordered a month later than some of us, and we have no idea when our machines will get to us.

you can't help it, apple can. But enjoy your machine, and love it with everything you can, that's the least you can do 😀 😉

Sorry I've been away for so long, but I've been really busy with work... and my brand new 2.5! I haven't had time to post pictures, but let me just tell you all waiting on thing:

ITS WORTH THE WAIT! 😀

This machine is amazing. I haven't had a chance to really put it through it through its paces, but what i have thrown at it, it chomps down with blazing speed.

Ripping a CD on my old G3 imac used to chug along at 3.5x speed. The 2.5 has hit 25x coming off disc. And if I'm doing an AAC to mp3 conversion off hard drive, it happens so quick that itunes can't even display the speed!

UT2K4 is silky smooth at the highest settings.

I even started playing around in GarageBand. What a fun tool. I've already got a halfway decent song in the works.

I know how hard it is to wait. Trust me, I've been waiting since last november to get one of these Rev B's. Hang in there a little while longer, its worth it.

Seriously. I'm beginning to loathe Apple. I ordered a month earlier than a guy in a foreign country, and all I got is a 9/03 ship date to look at. I'm beginning to f*cking crack up. 😡

Apple seem to be some what random with the shipping ! I think that all European orders come from Cork, Ireland. Not sure if that should make any difference.
Anyway i am happy mine is on the way 🙂 Lets just see how long it takes to weave its way across Europe down to Spain. Im just amazed my shipping date stayed the same and never got pushed back.

I get the impression that the shipping is cranking up a gear now, so i hope you all get yours soon too.

I have a HUGE project starting very soon so i am looking forward to putting my new mac through its paces.

9600xt vs. 9800xt vs. 6800

My G5 2.5ghz has shipped from Mac Mall. They supposedly got 139 on Wednesday, had 470 something on backorder. Stock 9600xt card.

I am a photographer working in Photoshop with dual 19" Lacie monitors. Would upgrading the video card to a 9800xt or 6800 make a big difference for me? Don't do much gaming or any video.

Just contacted my reseller, he's told me to keep in mind it could still take 1 or 2 weeks from now for the machines to reach the reseller, but that Apple (Benelux) still is very low on talking.

Getting so depressed now. G5 turned up on Monday... my screens are still sitting in Holland, even after being assigned a tracking number 3 days ago. Without a screen I cant even hook up the machine. It's just sitting there, like a huge, very pretty, paperweight. 🙁

congrats with the shipping, I don't think it would do you much benefit to upgrade. The color accuracy will not (if any) be a lot better with the 6800.

Hi,
I am new this forum.

I use a pretty noisy G4 quick silver and think about getting a 2.5 dual . I am confused by the different reports on this forum concerning fan noise.
Could anybody using Micrososft Word (and/or Mathematica software)
tell something how often and how noisy fans speed up, while editing e.g.
a text page?

i ordered on 17/7/2004, had an estimated shipping date of on or before 30/08/2004

so it looks like it should arrive about the time they said it would.

it is being shipped via TNT express, via Holland. I cant seem to get the tracking numbers to work. Any ideas ?

Well to be honest a 2.5 G5 would be overkill for Word. 😉 But if you really want a G5 and you really want quiet, but don't demand the FASTEST possible, consider a dual-2.0. It is my impression that they are in fact quieter due to no water-cooling hum. But that's sorta speculation on my part. Take it with a grain of salt.

What about screen redraw time. Would the 256mb of vram help? I work on 400mb files daily. Sometimes 1.5 GB files after adding layers, etc.

Don't want to spend the extra cash if it not going to help.

screen redraw won't make a difference, cause your displays will be @ 75hz right? (or higher) For your monitor it doesn't matter how many layers you have, he only shows you what's visible, you may consider to add some more ram, 4 gb should do the trick, and you'll be cheaper off than with a 6800 card.

Finally got my shipping notice last night!! FedEx has yet to pick it up but this is the first bit of good news since I ordered 6/30.

Perhaps that IS the light at the end of the tunnel that I see??

I will remain cautiously optimistic till I have my babee in my hands... 🙄

Mine (G5 DP2.5, Radeon 9800, BT, AE) still hasn't shipped even though I ordered on 6/9. Go figure. What's with Apple these days.

G5 2.5 Dual Receied

Well, I've been following all ya'lls postings here for about 6 weeks. I've felt eveyone's pain and joy with my own along the way. Just wanted to let folks know that I just received my new baby. I ordered on day 1 of availability through an Apple employee, so like everyone have seen the delivery slip (once for me). DESPITE THE PAIN IT WAS WORTH IT! So everyone have hope, keep faith; your's will be there one day soon I hope!! YES: yesterday waiting for the #$*!! FedX truck to arrive was the WORST! Didn't arrive until we finished dinner!! Was up with the new baby till 2 am! First impressions: The Dual G5 is awsome! Beautiful - especially with the new 23" display; it's fast, it's super-quiet 90% of the time, it does kick out some heat (basic room temp matters allot) the Superdrive is loud, the new 23" display is perfect, and the new graphics card (9600XT) works really well. I'm running with 2 GB Ram and 2x250 drives, networked with Airport Extreme. I do some audio recording and mixing with Soundtrack for video, so I'm using the digital optical interface with an Onkyo to power 6 M-Audio LX4 monitors with subwoofer. Sounds incredible. By the way, the new Cannon I9900 large format printer rocks!

My G5 made it's way on FedEx ground from Anaheim, CA to Massachusetts, and was finally delivered this morning at 7:47 a.m.! I have to be at work today, but I'll be setting it up tonight. It's great to hear how everyone likes their machines so much.

Brykken, if you're reading this, I agree with the other person who suggested calling Apple and getting your order investigated. Something seems to have clearly gone wrong with it. I keep expecting to see you posting with a shipping notice. We're all pulling for you!

I really appreciate all of your kind words. I just got off the phone with Apple and I was told that there was nothing to investigate and that they are doing their best to get the computers out in a timely fashion.

I don't even know what to say... 🙁

Spreadsheet Update

I have taken upon the task of updating solo-act's spreadsheet. It took me a while for me to raise my hand because I thought that Apple was over the hump with shipments. Well..... as of this morning:

44% of June order dates have not received a shipping notice. 14 of 52(28%) of this group are those who ordered on June 9!

27% of the July orders have either arrived or are in transit

More statistics to follow along with charts. Just wanted to get this out on the street. I will update once a day. Please review your info and fill in the question marks. alot of people have not given notice that they recieved their unit.

I will keep the spreadsheet going until the last of the June orders are filled.

By the way, I recived notice that my machine will be shipping today. 🙂
