Weeeeeee! :p
I just got off the phone with my contact at ADC (Apple Developer Connection).

She told me late August for my 2.5, even though I'm close to the front of the line!

I'll be in college by then!

When'd you order???!!!!

My days are numbered

Pah, i cancelled my G5 order last week :( In the time from when i made the order to last week i got offered a great new job but they since said that they really don't want to use Mac's on the network and so would supply me with my own PC  Which is a nightmare. I was absolutely GUTTED because i'd waited since december for the rev B's and not only were they six months late, when they finally DID get released they didn't ship for (what's starting to look like) 2 MONTHS later. If the G5 had got here when it should have then i could of at least tried to convince them to add it to the system, but it was too big a chance (economically).

If you're listening Apple, i didn't want to cancel my order but you took too long and so i had no choice. Good one. Now i'm having to jump to the dark side, possibly forever. You may have just lost me for good, and i'm a BIG Mac fan. I feel like i'm deserting a place that i love, i'm going to have to relearn a whole new load of software now...

Goodbye cruel world.

I hear you man.

I might have cancelled if I knew that it was gonna be this long, but I've made it this far, and I'll be damned if I don't make it to the end...

And when my G5 arrives, the last two months won't matter... :)

who really knows...

I just called 3 apple stores...

woodfield, Ill "They just told us they just shipped and we will have some this week."
keystone, indy "Whoa, not until mid august."
oak brook, Ill "No idea...but soon"

also of note is that the woodfield store had the new 20 and 23s in stock. keystone said those also not in until mid august.

Duff-Man says....another person that does not know what the term "vaporware" really means....oh yeah!

Why, it sounds like you boys need the help of Professor Frink... mmmhlaiven!!!! :D

The definition of this noun (just give Frinky a second to check the Frinktionary) is, ahhh mmmm glaiven here it is...

"Products announced far in advance of any release (which may or may not actually take place)"

I hope that settles that. Now I must get my to work on my Frinkilator!!!! MMM HYVEN GRIEVEN!!!!!!!!! :D

Duff-Man says....okay....from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware :
Vaporware is software or hardware that is preannounced by a developer, but never emerges as an actual product. The term implies deception; that is, it implies that the announcer knows that product development is in too early a stage to support responsible statements about its completion date, feature set, or even feasibility.
...we know the 2.5gHz G5 exists, it *will* ship, even if it is a bit late. an example of vaporware would be that announcement last year by FWB of the upcoming new "Real PC" emulator....oh yeah!

vaporware /vay'pr-weir/ n. Products announced far in advance of any release (which may or may not actually take place). See also brochureware.

...but I think it implies a really, really looooonnnnggg wait. Plus we KNOW the G5s are going ship at some point... we just don't know when.

Edit: WOW! You guys are fast!

So curious about the true definition I found this:
From Webster's::
(jargon)
vaporware - /vay'pr-weir/ Products announced far in advance of any release (which may or may not actually take place). The term came from Atari users and was later applied by Infoworld to Microsoft's continuous lying about Microsoft Windows.

implying it was used correctly.

Yet, I like Duffman, perhaps, OH Yeah!, have seen it used referring to hardware that is already totally outdated by time of release... but I couldn't find any references to back that up...

Here's another, more complete, definition:
[vaporware]

So, my personal defintion was wrong, Oh No! :)

EDIT: woah, you guys are way fast!

thank you for the clarification gentlemen. now we can all make cookies.

SWEET! But I wanna make peanut butter cause I'm allergic to chocolate....

What?

Fine! I'm not allergic, I just like peanut butter better... okay! Happy now?

Duff-Man says....the latest (as I write) post in this thread at Apple's discussion board says
I've been told by one of the larger resellers they're getting 10 a week right now. I have been given a ship date of Aug. 8 (which is a Sunday) or earlier.
- again it is no official word from Apple, but hey, they gotta start shipping them one of these days.....oh yeah!

(oh, and no raisins in the cookies please...thanks)

Bah, if I'd known ya'll were going to start dictionary wars, I'd have left the 'vaporware' comment out (yes, I was reading the grammar posts earlier too). I just meant to imply that Apple in conjunction with IBM was announcing products available in 2-3 weeks when they had a very good idea that was not going to be the case. It's now been 7 weeks, and most people aren't expecting the product to truely ship before next week. Hmm, maybe we should call it 'delayware' instead. delayware: When a person or company intentionally misleads people to believe that a product will ship soon, when they know full well it won't.

:)

shipping info update, order dates, etc...

Just thought I'd help quiet some emotions here...Look for shipments the first week of August for those who were lucky enough to have their 2.0 orders upgraded to 2.5's.

Look for 10.3.4, but I'd watch software update very closely. It may be that 10.3.5 is out before they ship, but it's almost too close to the guaranteed date to properly manufacture and package the the new OS on the 2.5's. Historically, Apple ships machines with the latest version possible at time of packaging...unfortunately that time is very close so I would count on 10.3.4. From what I've heard, unless you're having some specific networking issues, 10.3.5 won't benefit you much anyway.

I'm thinking 10.3.5 may be the hold up (even though it can't be called a hold up for another five days). Surely it will contain some instructions specific to the new LC system. So w/o a finished 10.3.5 I'm wondering if it's even possible to ship the 2x2.5s.

Its past the point...........

At this point, I am burnt out. My anticipation has run its course. If my order ships soon, OK. If it ships in September, OK. October, whatever. I'm just numb. My threshold has been reached. I think I need to take my medication.

if my order gets delayed into august im just gonna up the video card. i'm tired of waiting. i have projects on the backburner that are waiting on this. I WANT TO GET AWAY FROM WINTEL DAMNIT! if something doesnt happen soon ill be forced to drown another baby.

Not that bothered about the graphics card. I do a lot of FCP work, but as for games. No, never played any games - they bore me. Eventually I will probably upgrade, but for the moment, I feel the xt has enough power for me. Plus, I dont want any more issues that could delay the order.

I have so many projects paused, waiting for the delivery. I am on my 12" Powerbook as my PC died 2 days after I made my G5 order (fate?). Although its a great machines, its hard to work with for video projects because of the small screen.

Apple... If you are reading this. This G5 order marks my official 'switch'. You ad campaign worked on me, I decided to ditch PCs and move to mac. So please don't disappoint me by pushing my order date back. Prove me right on my decision to ditch Mr Gates and his kind. ;)

Ship on time.

Would you happen to know…

…if apple waits to the 30th and then simply pushes back its delivery date. Or if on the contrary the tell their customers at least a few days ahead when the can't keep up with their delivery?

They must know by now if they can keep their scedule. Do they even know that they are playing with our minds?

I am gonna call my sales rep today but I guess he will be as clueless as I am…

I ordered my 2.5 (with no BTO options other than BT) + 23in. Aluminum display immediately after WWDC. I ordered through Apple's developer hardware purchase program ($850 off my total order!). My est. shipping dates--7/30 and 7/26, respectively.

My contact at ADC told me that while my 23in. should ship this week, my 2.5 might not make it until late August.

"Just call us when you need to change your shipping address to your college location!" :(

RANT

Ok. I called my mac reseller just now. This guy I had on the phone is senior president of the firm and main sales rep as well. He got the confirmation yesterday from apple thet they won't receive any 2.5 until the end of AUGUST!!! I ordered mine the day before it came out! I phoned the same guy the day before they were announced as rumours were already pretty realistic. He then told me that the top model would be a 2.5, before the rumours were clear about that. So I guess that he knows what he is talking about. He soundes a little ambarassed as well. He told me that they have a lot of people waiting for that same machine.

I am seriously thinking about getting the 2.0. They have them in stock and I could drive there right now and have my machine! I couls start working and save some money as well. what to do?

My credit card is not itching me it's biting my ass off
