Well it is late on the 1st of Sept ( 5 pm PST) and my G5 still says 9/3 and 6800 on 9/17..... :p

anyone who wants to upgrade to a 9600XT let me know once the 6800 arrives... that card is up for grabs. :)

Iriejedi

(edit) - early on the 2nd of September... dates still fixed.....maybe... just maybe....

Has anyone who had a delivery with 6800 scheduled for 9/03 whose date has changed to 9/17 for the computer and 9/24 for the card called Apple and gotten a discount or free express shipping? I am going to be calling later and am wondering what to expect. I don't see why the computer is going to take so long to get here because it seems that the 6800 is what is holding it up meaning they should be able to pop a 9600xt in it and ship it out on the original date of 9/03. Well, I guess I will find out a later.

Well, I got the new computer hooked up and it is awesome. However, I had a problem trying to transfer the info from my older computer - a G4. It went almost to the end and said there was a error.

Anyone know what I should do at this point? There are some files that would be hard to reproduce.... Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

When the error was displayed, was there any more specific information about it? Without knowing the kind of error, it's hard to make any suggestions. However, you could try running First Aid in Disk Utility to make sure there are no problems with the files you a trying to copy. You can also try Repair Disk Permissions.

INFINITE FURY

I am about to go insane.

I just checked my order status to find my 2.5 G5 that was set to ship on 9/3 after being delayed twice CANCELLED!

NOW there is ANOTHER order _exactly_ the same BELOW the 6800 card!!!

This 2.5 is set to be shipped on or before OCTOBER 8th!!!

There is no emoticon to express these emotions im feeling.

It MAY not be as bad as it seems. This happened to me earlier today and since I had just gotten the 9600/6800 delay email yesterday, I called Apple with a general WTF attitude. The guy told me that the sytem automatically generates new ship dates and that the date quoted in the email (9/17 for the mac and 9/24 for the card) was correct. He said that he was part of the 'conversion team' that was going through and manually fixing these dates in the order status sytem so that they would appear correctly.

Hope takes a bit of sting out of the slap.

But this doesn't make any sense, there havent been changes to my order since 8/19 when they gave me the 2.5 with a 9600XT on 9/3 and a 6800Ultra stantalone on 9/17 deal.

well, yeah, you're right... that doesn't make any sense. I got through on the below referenced number pretty fast (2 minute wait, not too bad). Have they offered ANY explanation?

PLEASE CALL US REGARDING YOUR ORDER AT 800-676-2775 EXT-55850.

Otherwise, it set up quickly, and now I am going to attach the printers, scanner and speakers.

I'll keep in touch.

By the way, some mentioned their first computer - well, mine was the old SE with two floppy slots and no hard disk. The G5 is my sixth Mac - never bought anything else after I was hooked in 1984.

Also, I am older than most on these boards - I will be 74 on the 17th. So this is my birthday gift to me!!!!

Kathy :D :D

Hi Kathy,

I am pleased with my 2.5 GHz!!! In terms of fan revs or other problems, I think I have a good example. The more I use my machine, the more I appreciate it. I wish you luck with your new computer. You might want to try the transfer again. Your data is safe on the old computer. Just do a reformat and re-install of system software on the new G5 before trying it again.

I've enjoyed your posts, enthusiasm and anticipation which is no different than anyone else on this thread. Most of us (and some still) were going crazy with the persistent delays. I feel for the 6800 crowd. They seem to have the longest wait. Though you have a few years on many of us on this forum, you have that same energy (If I may speak for the rest of you'all) that wants this leading edge, exponent of the best and most sophisticated operating system devised, now, not in 3-6 months, for Godsakes. Life/time is precious and all too short. I share in your joy. Happy birthday! You're still young. Mac forever!

Guess I should have waited another 2 weeks, but hey!, who has a crystal ball that works.

Have a great time with your new friend,

Jim

If I can get a turnaround in 2 weeks they must be on top of production?

T -1 Day

My tracking info from FedEx still shows the newest member of our family arriving tomorrow, and the excitement builds. My boss is allowing me to "telecommute" tomorrow so I can be sure to take receipt. I plan to get a photo of the FedEx employee (read: stork).

I can't help but think how instead of my 2.5G5/6800/23" ACD, I could have bought two 20" G5 iMacs *and* an iBook for less money. I'll calm myself by saying that just indicates the tremendous value in the new iMacs.

A question for all of you:

My G5 will have a pair of 250GB HDs. I also have countless external FW drives. The only real HD storage intensive activity I do is making movies with Final Cut Express/iMovie. Should I bother partitioning HD1? I was thinking:

HD1: 250GB - OSX + Apps + User directories
HD2: 100GB - movie project space
100GB - movie project space
50GB - OSX backup install and backup of key items

Maybe I could just go with one 200GB partition on the HD2 for a larger project and use the external HDs for other concurrent projects. In the past, I was more HD limited by 120GB external drives so I tended to shy away from larger projects.

I can't wait to report on the delivery and my first impressions tomorrow!

Australian G5 shipping help

Hi, this is my first post here. Hi everybody!

I ordered a G5 2.5 with 6800DDL card, 2G SDRAM, 250GHD, Airport and Bluetooth on the 29/7/04.

I live in Australia and I was wondering if anybody in Australia actually has theirs yet? What are the 6800 delays like in Aus?

I had to order mine through an Apple Centre because Apple won't post to a PO Box (I hate renting a flat!!!). The Apple Centre is really unhelpful and keep telling me "one more week" every bloody week! GRRR. I was told it would be 4-6 weeks when I ordered it and it will be 6 weeks next Thursday.

How likely do u think delays will be? Can any Australians help me!??

I want my G5 so bad. I can't wait to scrap my stoopid "sunflower"-shaped iMac.

Music Migration

Well, the Firewire transfer went pretty well to my new 2.5DG5. Does anyone know how to "authorize" all of the iTMS songs that were moved over onto my new machine as a batch, or do I have to do each one individually?

Thanks!

Actually, I think I saw 2 of them, that ordered through a reseller in australia. About that 'one more week' thing, that's exactly the same as here. The problem is, the resellers can't help it either, they don't get a lot of info from Apple about delivery dates, so they can only hope it's next week.

that said, the 6800 are not exptected until late october, even in the states, so I can only assume they are going to be another week or 2 delayed if they have to go to Australia

Compensation from reseller or not?

I was wondering if any of you asked for compensation for the hassle of the G5 delivery through your local reseller. I know they can't help it either, but can't they ask Apple for compensation, and pass that to us, so we can have a nice discount on this or a future order for that matter?

did anybody have the guts to do this :)

I think if I mail or call them one more time, THEY will cancel my order :D they can't help it either.

Mine now is set to September 22nd... pfffffffffff

However, the nVidia is still at 9/8 ! but I don't believe I will get the card before I get the G5..

Only if the G5 delays ONE more time, I'm completely going bonanza! Then the pressure is tooo big, and going to pull some strings..

Ordered 2.5 G5 (9600, standard memory, 250 Gig HD instead of 160) on 22 July and initial ship date was and has been 2 Sept. since.

Just checked my order status and have been pushed back to...25 October!!!!!

I live about two hour's drive from the Apple Store in Plano, TX, and I might just run down there to pick up one of these rather than wait nearly two more months. I called (just for the heck of it last week), and the store had a 2.5 sitting there "with my name on it" if I wanted it.

Just sitting here in shock....

The first time you try to play an unauthorized song, iTunes will connect to the music store and let you authorize the computer, this will cover all the songs you own.

What day did you order?

I had several people ask why I ordered a Power Mac G5 when I could have waited to see what Apple to do with the then rumored iMac G5.

The iMac is too closed for me. Given the tinkering around I do and how long I tend to hang onto computers before retiring them, the iMac would need to be lifecycled long before the Power Mac. I figured then that the new iMac would be single processor.

The new iMac is cool and I hope I can persuade my parents to relinquish their low-end Dell with one. The problems for me is that relatively mediocre video card, no Firewire 800 port, very closed architecture.

I'm also curious about how they are going to keep the G5 chip cool in that case. But this discussion is for a different forum that is competiting with this one for number of posts. :)

I ordered a 160GB hard drive with my system. I like your idea. Maybe time to start looking for a 250 serial ATA to add.

I'd say go for it man! And about that october date, damn, I REALLY hope it's their system that is screwed up, could you give them a call and ask some explanation?? If not for you, just for us than :D

thx!
