I'd swear there was someone at Apple watching this thread who is happily changing your order willy nilly just to jerk your chain.

I even had a local apple representative for the University I attend ask some people on the inside of Apple if there was any special exception they could make since my G5 had been delayed etc., but alas they seemed pretty married to the 14 day max return period.
I guess I wasn't really thinking of a return, since it was over 14 days, but a discount from Apple on the upgrade to the Production Suite. Did you try that angle? I was almost in your same situation. The guy who places the orders "forgot" to place it the week before, so for once I got lucky.

It maybe different in other parts of the world but I would never think of deleting a modem from a computer because the services that transport high speed internet access can and do have outages. In a power outage (which unfortunatly is frequent in my area) the POTS line does not require local power and usually remains functional for most regional emergencies. As slow as it is I can still communicate with the world with a modem.
Maybe I am reading too much into it because everyone may have a modem to remove from a old machine and place into the G5. Am I wrong?
tamtam,
My office has ZERO analog phone lines, so using a modem would be impossible. Getting one installed takes an act from God for some reason at our corporation. A cable modem on the other hand was no problem. Since the machine will never be sold, I don't have to think about reseller value. Plus I had to stay within a certain budget, and removing any unnecessary items helps.
Enjoy your trip.
